Yves and I cycled into Nîmes together where I left him doing his shopping at the charming outdoor market, as I circled back to take some more photos of the town’s impressive Roman ‘ruins’ seems a bit unfair as the arena and maison carré are incredibly well preserved.
Again, leaving town with local cyclist advice made all the difference as I knew to take the hillier but quiet road through a military area, from which I could look down to see the busy highway I was avoiding below. The road then descended passing through some very sweet villages one of which had a very charming water pump on it’s small plaza. In a decathlon on the outskirts of Alès I made the long overdue replacement of my cycling gloves before completing the last couple of kilometres of the ride to my host’s place.
Claire & Gael hosted me so generously for 2 nights allowing me to celebrate my 20th travel-anniversary in great company, comfort, and in trying sea snails for the first time! (And lots of other more conventionally delicious food and wine 😆)

3:15 It's an Osage Orange, native to east Texas. Lovely trees, you'll see them cultivated elsewhere because they have very strong, flexible wood. Those fruits are inedible. Congrats on 20 years.
