IMHO Khorkina is the greatest bars worker of all time. Her routine has no wasted movements, and no throw-away transitions to move between bars. Her sequence of 1,5 pirouette into immediate stalter into immediate khorkina is unmatched.
Boris Pilkin was an amazing coach! He invented ways for Khorkina to use her height as an advantage not a hindrance. RIP Mr. Pilkin and thank you for bringing this beautiful and innovative gymnast to the sport.
that was the brilliance of svetlana. if she didnt fall - you'd lose. as perfect a gymnast as there ever was. i dont even do gymnastics anymore and still like watching her stuff.
love how she can just stall that full twisting double out like that. It shows that she has wonderful technique and experience. Great set as usual from her.
I also love how she went and made sure that her personal coach (Boris Pilkin...i know i butchered the spelling, sorry about that.) got a hug and kiss, almost as if to thank him for making that medal possible. Without him, she would've never made it, and wouldve been wrote off as just another little girl that wanted to be a gymnast but just didnt have the body shape or what it took. Alot of coaches in Russia didnt want to work with her bc she was so tall, and as a matter of fact, her personal coach didnt want to work with her at first, but he gave her a chance and created a champion.
I AGREE! People call her what they want, I call her a competitor. She wanted everything she did with her fiber of her heart and Boris knew it too, they were unstoppable and her love for him warms my heart
you know..as the slow mo was played..i noticed now notice how risky the Khorkina transition from LB to HB is...she does not look at the HB at all while circling the LB. It seems like gymnasts who do the move will have to make sure their hands are at the ready to grasp the HB, provided that they're propelled correctly and in the right spot..am i right?
I never understood that girl, she must be grateful that she finally got the score she deserved she was terribly overscored, her beam routine in Atlanta was a joke, Gina was the most boring gymnast in history
I like how she doesn't even spot the bar on her low to high bar transition (AKA: Khorkina). Man she slays at bars... I always thought it would be awesome to see Svetlana and Nastia Liukin go head to head on bars... if only she stayed in for one more year we could have seen it... but 3 Olympics is pretty epic... she was probably really tired.
This is the first Khorkina video I have seen on TH-cam where she actually looks healthy and not anorexic. Her for is strong, legs together, no bobbles.
That's how I feel about Produnova. Had routines more advance than what gymnast do now days...she never won gold. I think Gina was given golds more than she earned them..especially when you throw in Produnova and Khorkina, I think Gina would do well in the current code of points because she was very clean, but her routines were so predictable and boring sometimes
Well, I think Gina was disappointed because she didn't perform her best vaults. Look at the final results: the top four separated by less than 1/10th of a point. If Gina had stuck even one of her vaults, she could have won. She knew that, too. Also, that was her last major competition and she knew she wasn't going to get another chance.
Amanar robbed? Why? Her beam and bars weren't on par an AA gymnast needs to be strong on at least 3 events. Gogean was clean but her difficulty was less than produnova who showed power and artistry. Gogean is a far cry from Silivas and even Milo when it came to expressing herself in certain events. Amanar was a hard worker but so is Produnova and Khorkina. The reason anyone remembers amanar is because of the vault. Good gymnast, but not AA good when Russia is on.
leahkallixto technically Simone Biles is now the best gymnast in history but for her time she was definitely the pinnacle of beauty and grace... also with a some sass.
leahkallixto Yes Svetlana is the best gymnast in history. Why? Medal numbers, olympic or world medals in every apparatus, contribution to every apparatus in skills named after her and last but not least, unmatched elegance. Simone is amazing strength, just that.
So tell me more about how a romanian(who are never strong on bars) scored a 9.7 ever? Did you ever think that the romanians were overscored in the TF. Back in 1997 the judges(former gymnast from the 60s/70s/and 80s) valued the combination of artistic expression, difficulty and execution. When Russia competes they always show a great mix of the 3. Romania it's hit or miss. Clearly everyone can see that Khorkina was the superior gymnast in 1997. Khorkina's beam is far beyond it time.
Amanar was actually much better than Khorkina on beam this night and her score reflected it, much higher. Amanar clearly outperformed Khorkina on all of vault, beam, and floor this night. The only reason Khorkina won was her bars was a whopping 0.5 higher than Amanar. Khorkina of course was much better on bars, but Simona got a 9.35 for the same routine she got 9.7 for in the team competition which was ridiculous. As for Produnova her AA vaults sucked, and her AA bars was as weak as Gogeans.
Well, it was really close between her and Produnova for the bronze. Gina clearly did not do her best vaults and she knew it would cost her. I don't think she necessarily thought she'd be contending for gold, but the bronze would have meant so much to her. Also, it was her last major competition and I'm sure she realized that was her last shot.
Whether or not she deserved a 9.7, Amanar deserved alot more than a 9.3 and if she had even gotten over 9.4, she would have won the AA since her vault, beam, and floor scores were all much higher than Khorkina that day. Produnova's bar routine in the AA here was terrible, no better than Amanar's and got a 9.687, what a joke. You are confusing the 2000 Russian team with 1997. Produnova was not the same gymnast. As for Khorkina she didnt do her best routines in the AA finals here.
@HoneyGotMeHooked not sure why...the end results reflects her presence when competing: not memorable...sad for Gina but she had not personality even compared to Amanar
Gogean was robbed of the 94 World AA title. As for this event Amanar and Gogean were both robbed in favor of Khorkina and Produnova. Produnova should not have even medaled. I agree Produnova was robbed many times though, including of floor gold here and in Sydney, and also robbed of vault and AA gold or silver at the 99 Worlds
My first attempt at a 1997 routine. Am I correct? Khorkina 1997 AA UB routine: Hecht mount (B) Kip cast handstand legs together (B) Stalder Full not in handstand (C) Giant 1 ½ handstand falling (D) Khorkina Vault(D) Kip cast handstand straddle (A) Giant 1 ½ (D) Pak (D) Stalder to handstand ( C) Khorkina release (D) Kip cast handstand straddle (repeated skill no value) Giant (A) Tucked Full out (D) Value Parts (in chronological order) A kip cast hdstd Straddle B hecht mount B kip cast hdstd legs together C Stalder full (late) C stalder D Giant 1/½ Extra Ds (total = 0.4) Khorkina Vault (D) 0.1 Giant 1 ½ (D) (0.1) Khorkina release (D) (0.1) Tucked Full out (D) (0.1) Connections (total of 0.7) Stalder Full not in handstand(C) Giant 1 ½ handstand falling (D) Khorkina Vault (D) 0.1 + 0.2 = 0.3 Giant 1 ½ (D) Pak (D) Stalder to handstand ( C) Khorkina release (D) 0.2+0.1+0.1 =0.4 SV =10.00 pts
IMHO Khorkina is the greatest bars worker of all time. Her routine has no wasted movements, and no throw-away transitions to move between bars. Her sequence of 1,5 pirouette into immediate stalter into immediate khorkina is unmatched.
And she made it look like she was gliding gracefully, truly poetry in motion.
Boris Pilkin was an amazing coach! He invented ways for Khorkina to use her height as an advantage not a hindrance. RIP Mr. Pilkin and thank you for bringing this beautiful and innovative gymnast to the sport.
Perfectly done! And she did it bare handed. 💜 👑
that was the brilliance of svetlana. if she didnt fall - you'd lose. as perfect a gymnast as there ever was. i dont even do gymnastics anymore and still like watching her stuff.
I love to see how much Khorkina love and respect her coach... :)
She was beauty personified on those bars!!
love how she can just stall that full twisting double out like that. It shows that she has wonderful technique and experience. Great set as usual from her.
One of the most amazing elegant technique athlete ever
I also love how she went and made sure that her personal coach (Boris Pilkin...i know i butchered the spelling, sorry about that.) got a hug and kiss, almost as if to thank him for making that medal possible. Totally agree! She always made sure to mention him and thank him in interviews.
I AGREE! People call her what they want, I call her a competitor. She wanted everything she did with her fiber of her heart and Boris knew it too, they were unstoppable and her love for him warms my heart
dear lord! that dismount was AMAZING! she was practically finished the rotation above the bar!
Khorkina is the best! She really has a character!
So interesting to notice that the top 4 finishers all have elements named after them in the Code of Points. Such a deep field with Khorkina on top.
love khorkina! What I don't understand is why she hasn't been inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame??
Politics
Really? Hasn't? Shitty FIG
Yup. Even alicia sacramone, nastia liukin, simona amanar, elema zomolodchikova got inducted already..
She is a proud russian that’s why
@@victorbritogoncalves5129 not proud. She is a politician on salary. A part of Putin's propaganda machine. Nothing to be proud of.
What a sweet moment between Sveta and Boris Pilkin. How gratifying for them both. Rest in peace, Mr. Pilkin.
Yeah. He died in 2010, a day after the Russian girls won the team title at Worlds. Very sad. But he lived a good long life.
aww I love how much Khorkina loves and appreciates Boris =)
love her reaction! amazing moment
you know..as the slow mo was played..i noticed now notice how risky the Khorkina transition from LB to HB is...she does not look at the HB at all while circling the LB. 0:41 My god... nobody pirouettes like her!
SHE DOESNT USE GRIPS?!?! HOLY OWW!
Gogean actually was 1st going into the final rotation and ending on one of her best events vault. She was understandably dissapointed to drop to 4th.
I never understood that girl, she must be grateful that she finally got the score she deserved she was terribly overscored, her beam routine in Atlanta was a joke, Gina was the most boring gymnast in history
La reina rusa Svetlana Khorkina❤
I like how she doesn't even spot the bar on her low to high bar transition (AKA: Khorkina). Man she slays at bars... Tanner Schell I think the same she didn't even care of the HB maybe because she knows just for the shot that she's gonna catch it perfectly
Khorkina v Liukin would be incredible to see !
This is the first Khorkina video I have seen on TH-cam where she actually looks healthy and not anorexic. Her for is strong, legs together, no bobbles.
I love her. She is so elegant
admiro mucho a esta chica!!!
That's how I feel about Produnova. Had routines more advance than what gymnast do now days...she never won gold. Светлана, такая умничка!!!
+Мария Колонова ona bhyla ochen xoroshaya gimnastka....Poslye Elena Shushunova i Oksana Omelyanchik ya ochen lyublyu Svetlana Xorkina....Queen Xorkina

it deserved 10!

is she the greatest gymnast in history? because she's the best I've seen
yes, she is the best
leahkallixto technically Simone Biles is now the best gymnast in history but for her time she was definitely the pinnacle of beauty and grace... also with a some sass.
leahkallixto Yes Svetlana is the best gymnast in history. Why? Medal numbers, olympic or world medals in every apparatus, contribution to every apparatus in skills named after her and last but not least, unmatched elegance. Simone is amazing strength, just that.
She's the second best gymnast of all time, after Larissa Latynina. Simone is the best right now (non-retired)
Tanner Schell Don't compare gymnasts from different Eras and CoP . That really shows your ignorance towards this sport.
طووووب

Huesitos preciosos!!!!♥
Khorkina was the main torn vs tbe Romanians Golden Run of 1996 to 2000.
THAT DISMOUNT! Holy crap!
i love khorkina's costume

Lol. Boring ole Gina thought she was going to win gold? LMAO.
Lol that's savage. I think she was just sad about getting bumped out of the medals though.
SUPER DIVA
Королева!
LOL! I love it too.
did she use grips?!?
No.
Fue campeona antes que finalice el milenio.

2:39 RIP coach :(
A little different to see her in yellow.
Yes you are exactly right yes her bars was boring... sorry about that comment that picture is not of you...
@Zamolodchikovafan16 Yes, sadly :(
@LCAmarkymark I believe it's because she retired after this competition.
@yellowbanana104 Has Borris Pilkin died?!
i know interesting:D And since we have the same body types, we might look alike
I feel like that was Gina's default facial expression for everything...
@HoneyGotMeHooked not sure why...the end results reflects her presence when competing: not memorable...sad for Gina but she had not personality even compared to Amanar
But Gina has worked so hard and has always came up 2nd but I think she has been robbed several time of gold
