    Bedroom players hate the Tone Master series. Working musicians LOVE them…that speaks volumes to me.

    SR is not designed to play in a bedroom. Set the volume to 7 (and put hear plugs !) and after at least 1h (to make it HOT) you will hear what the SR sound is. And tune that LP please 😅

    I opted for the Tone Master Super Reverb. For the money, you can't beat it. I am digging the options with the attenuator too! And like I say, when the hair gets whiter, the gear gets lighter 😉

    The problem i have with the TM series is the fact that Fender chose to model them on Reissue counterparts, not original, vintage amps. That, fir me, makes a direct comparison like this one, futile.

    • @michaelcrabtree7193
      @michaelcrabtree7193 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, that's just one of the problems I have with them! The repairability and disposable nature of them is not a good selling point.

    I make my $ playing a Gibson Super Jumbo through dual Fishman towers. In the basement I play my Gibson SG through the SR Tone Master and the combination is the freakin' berries. But basements must not be bedrooms, I guess.

    I got confused by the back shot, thought we were looking behind the amps as they were and not turned around, and was about to comment that those are reissue Jensens in the ‘64, lol. It took me a second look to realize this and see the ceramic CTS speakers in the ‘64.
    Thanks for the video!
    My bandmate is having great success with his TM Twin and is urging me to consider the TM Super. I’m an AC30 guy, so it’s a stretch, but I will plug into one when I see one!

    I have bad luck with electronics, don't matter if its a 50 year old tube amp or a $200 pedal brand new. I've found that carting gear out to gigs and practices just destroys stuff. All of my main amps are hand wired and really easy to fix. I would fear that with the tone master that one day in maybe 20 years or maybe 2, that it would just stop working, and then that would be that. Also I've had all my old amps gone through by a great tech, so they are very reliable. Even had him reflow all the factory solder joints on my 65 super reverb, because I got mine to bring out to the bigger gigs, especially outdoor gigs

    • @brokenrecordguitarshow4462
      @brokenrecordguitarshow4462  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Justin thanks for watching and commenting! You are dead right about transporting gear being hard on it. I love the vintage or hand wired stuff because of the ease of repair. Plus I'm a classic rock guy and really dig the tones and overall vibe the old gear gives.

    I need to replace a couple of speakers in my Tonemaster Super Reverb.I know the total ohm rating is 2 ohms.
    Do you know the ohm rating for each individual speaker? It's impossible to read the writing on the speaker.

    I keep seeing the Tone Master Super Reverb on Facebook Marketplace for half what they cost to buy new, with the other Tone Masters selling used for about the same price.
    I need a bigger amp so I am really tempted to buy one. But for the same price should I get a Tone Master Super Reverb or a Tone Master Deluxe Reverb. I assume the Super Reverb is the top of the line right?
    I am no pro. But I am going to starting with other musicans soon with a drummer , so I need something that will keep up. My Vox AC10C1 I think is a bit small.

  • @Coolbeans1492
    @Coolbeans1492 ปีที่แล้ว

    The tm is more mid scooped and slightly more hi fi. That could be age, speaker break in, or the specific sr the tm is modelled on. If no 2 tube amps are the same you can get similar variation between 2 of the same sr’s from the same year. I think the tms sound good for what it is. And as tube tech becomes more expensive to buy and repair i think amp manufacturers are going to have to offer something like this. I like both sounds but the tm will probably be the better amp to own because it does not need maintenance and can be modded thru firmware. Its rly a one time purchase which cant be said for any tube amp. In the past the alternatives to tubes werent like this and even then theres been some amazing solid states over the years too. Its the better one to own especially if its your only amp with more control over the volume and less work overall.

  • @4034miguel
    @4034miguel ปีที่แล้ว

    IMHO, you need to compare new with new. The fair comparison would be the 65' Reissue against the Tonemaster. It could be that the Tonemaster is modeled after this new 65'Reissue. Even, the Tonemaster has not gotten the same time to break-in as the old model has. There are so many variables to take into account, that I do not know how you can make this comparison really relevant, though entertaining and always intriguing to hear. Unless what you search is that vintage sound produced for years of use and those old components.

      Hi Adam, Thanks for watching and commenting! Yes, it is actually the original grill clot! The story goes the original owner brought the amp home and it never moved until his passing. The family remembers him playing through it on occasion but it was rarely used. We found it locally and had to trade a very nice 62 Deluxe for it.

    Tonemaster is not a Modeling Amp it is a new improved version of a Super Reverb . Modeling Amps have more than one version of amp like a Mustang IV . Tube Amps are OK if you want that sound but Tonemasters are real close in sound . Tube Amps are noisy at times need lots of maintenance and may not be able to get tubes for . I own both from 60's up to Tonemaster Super Reverb last purchase . Have a 1973 Traynor Sonax solid state 730G did not baby and still works, liked it so much picked up another 2 years later . Have a Fender Blues Deville all Tube 4 x 10 and new Super Reverb 4 x 10 that sounds pretty close and does not make your arms longer to carry. Depends on what type of music you play and guitars you use, that is why we have so many choices .

    I bought the Tonemadter deluxe reverb and so far I’m not really impressed, I may have to return it, I’ll know better later in the week after i use it on some gigs, that the only real way to know. It does not have the beef of the tube original that much I can say. Reverb is kind of Meh, but I haven’t tried the firmware update yet, mainly 😅because the hid the usb 😊jack on the bottom of the chassis where it’s not even visible , dumb poor design move. Also after significant time trying out the ‘Attenuator’ I think it’s. Really just a master volume knob that’s notched at certain levels, it doesn’t SOUND like attenuation, so yeah, this may be a mistake on m part, but Sweetwater is good about returns…I will update this post later on….
