  • CIRIA's susdrain project has launched an exciting new animation on Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) that provides an engaging and digestible overview of SuDS.
The short animation called "Ever wondered where the rain goes?" demonstrates how changes to the natural water cycle caused by development can be positively managed, and, how SuDS turns this challenge into an exciting opportunity contributing to better places.
For more information about sustainable drainage visit www.susdrain.org or contact enquiries@susdrain.org.

The best animation I've seen on this approach to site design with green infrastructure. I'd like a video like this for our firm!

Apparently it's too expensive, so we expect flash floods as the rain gets heavier, thus wrecking business's and creating chaos on our roads. Well done TFL!

Brilliant concept; however, we are a messy species and how soon would these areas become choked with litter and/or smelly and unsightly?

Exactly! We were due to buy a new build looking into a dry basin but pulled out for similar reasons.

Councils need to employ local people to pick litter and clean these spaces instead of relying on local volunteers. But councils are so corrupt in UK it's impossible to get them to do the right thing.

Just as we have water connection, sanitary connection why can't we have a separate rain water connection to every house
and option for rain gardens, rain water harvesting system at the owners discretion in cities. This rain water can be treated on the mountain sides or nearby forests or partially filling lakes along its course of journey. This EVERY DROP of FRESH WATER can be saved for future use. Thus maximization is achieved using minimum existing infrastructure.
