- (15 May 1977) President Jimmy Carter arrives at Heathrow Airport and is greeted by Prime Minister, James Callaghan. The following day, the President visited Newcastle upon Tyne and received the 'Freedom of the City'. Then it was on to a brief visit to Washington, County Durham, where Mr Carter planted a tree.

Cool! Did the occasion have any bearing on you becoming a US citizen years down the line?
@@EmilyHartley25989 nope. I didn't even visit until I was 36.
I became a citizen in 2020, originally from Cheshire. I currently reside just down the street (literally) from Mt. Vernon in VA where that Tulip tree was taken from. It's a great place to visit. All the best.

I met President Carter at Heathrow. He shook my hand, and said “gee, your hands are cold.”
