    I recently found my first headunit that was installed in my truck back in high school. Saw somewhere online about hooking a deck up in your home. Person was using a Xbox 360 power supply, but my busted Xbox was in a storage unit. Decided I'm done with fixing my older pc so I pulled the new recently installed PSU. Works well. Been wanting to build a simple racing cabinet, but now changing plans for a headunit instead of home theater system.

    I used an old factory Toyota CD/Tape player head unit but only needed a WallyWorld 110VAC down converter to 12VDC to drive the head unit, and used old Bose cubes as my speakers.

    What’s the purpose of the battery in this scenario? Why not just use the powermax converter. Will it give you more power

      I know I'm late but it helps with power output battery can output 600+amps for a short time. A battery isn't needed but I'd run a battery to help keep stress off of the amp n converter. I'm not a expert or electrician but nobody answered so I did lol. Hope this helps.🤗

    Is it necessary to add a battery or will just running it off the converter be fine?

  • @DavidHakimi

    What is the purpose of the battery? If the power supply is plugged into constant wall power, isn't the battery redundant? I'm building a similar setup, and wondering why the battery is necessary? Seems like you did an earlier version of this video, and the set-up seemed to work fine with no battery.

      Power supply doesn't do well with the voltage spikes when subs hit. Can make your amp pretty hot

    Nice setup. If was mine I would separate those buss bars. I could see myself dropping a wrench or somehow bridging those with them that close.

    Does this need to be grounded anywhere? Ground the power supply? Would it be better to used fuses distribution blocks instead of bus bar to protect other equipment/wire? Or is that not necessary. I just don’t want my garage to burn down.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can, but the amperage delivery from the converter may not be as consistent and a supply from a battery. Amplifiers are more reliant on a consistent charge from a battery. Honestly is just a bit more risky for the amp, but certainly will work.

    using the 100 amp version; for a reliable/stable and cool (temp) system what would be your recommended max for an amplifier? I ask because I have a 500 watt Alpine mono and 4 channel lying around and was thinking of using just one of them but didn't want the 500 watts to be a significant strain on the inverter/battery.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Look more at the amperage pull vs the watts. that alpine amp is probably around 30x2 (60) amps max and a 4 channel can maybe range round 30-50 amps, so running both should be fine with this inverter and battery.

    Just need parts list and pic of all the components involved. Some of that I won't need. I also see that battery is laying on side so I don't think it's lead acid. I prefer to do this without battery. Is there a safe professional way to do that? Like I said I have questions sir.

      @Josh-km9vc 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So how’d the build go? I’m doing the same thing and the Powermax supply I have works as continuous power supply or battery charger. I am also planning on not using a battery and just using the power supply.

  • @Dakar006
    @Dakar006 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Why use a battery? Doesn't the 100 amp power supply provide enough power everything? Why even bother with the battery? Would a capacitor be enough to handle the spikes?

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Battery handles those spikes that the power supply may output. This also allows me to run a system without the converter on as well. Occasionally in the shop we jump start dead vehicles off the test bench, so this provides the cold cranking amps needed to do so. So many pros to adding a battery.

    Im working on a similar build for my garage. I will be gutting an old school stereo console to mount everything in. Im using a component system with a 4ch 1,000 watt amp. I was looking at this exact same converter for my build. Ive seen mixed reviews on the powermax 100 amp. But, this is the 1st video or build ive seen where similar equipment is being used. How have you liked this converter? Does it seem to hold up so far? $180.00, want to make sure its not a waste of money....keep up with the great vids!

    Hey i know im a few years late, i have a similar settup. isnt voltage supposed to come down from 14.7? mine is doing the same thing. i have a powermax 100 amp, a 600 watt amp, and a 250 watt amp, with a headunit. now it doesnt fluctuate voltage like its supposed to. before i was just running the 600 watt amp and it would fluctuate between 13.2 and 13.6. but now its just a constand 14.7 and im a little concerned

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you running a battery as well? Generally running 14.7 volts isn't a bad thing as some car alternators put out that much. However, the Powermax is a smart charger, so generally if it see the needs to drop keep the voltage at 14.7, there may be a reason. Or else you may have to reach out to the manufacture. If you are not running a battery, i strongly suggest you do as this may fix your issue.

    Nice Job. How to you keep the ac to dc converter from overcharging the battery? thanks

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a "smart converter" to help avoid overcharging as it monitors the voltage and amperage of the battery. However, i also have a manual switch on the plug of the charger to turn it off by hand just to be safe.

    I can’t get the amp to turn on. Power supply turns on but no amp. Got the negative from the PS to the ground on the amp, is that wrong.? Also positive from PS to 12v+ on the amp. Can you help me out man thanks.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio

      You need your remote turn on wire also hooked up. To manually turn on your amp, just ran a small gauge wire from the remote turn on to the positive on the power supply and it will boot up.

    hi. thats a really nice set up. good job. im building a tv stand with built in car amplifiers and speakers (the same set up that is used in a car). im planning on using the same powermax converter you are using, connected to a kinetik hc-600 battery to power up 3 rockford fosgate punch amps.(old school). my question to you is:
    * when you turn off the converter (in case you do). does the cooling fan in the converter stay on. since it is connected directly to battery ?
    i appreciate a reply. thanks.

    • @ProvoBeastAudio
      @ProvoBeastAudio  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Usually, when disconnected from the AC power, the fan will remain on for a short time, and turn off. The fan never turns on without AC connection.

    designs for battery chargers normally require you to limit the continuous current output to no more than 25% of battery Ah capacity...so for a 100 amp charger, battery should be no smaller than 400Ah when charging with no other loads on....your battery looks much smaller than that.....also doesn't the converter cooling fan annoy you when listening to music?
