  • Another provincial Routemaster bus vid now, this time Strathtay Scottish Routemasters at work in Perth. This era was the time ex London Routemasters were at work all over the UK. Dundee and Perth were about as far north as they worked, in a eye catching livery. If you liked the video please subscribe to my channel, there are lots more transport & quirky vids to upload!

Remember the no2, route clearly. Those were the days. Perth has always had a great bus service. Still has.

Thanks.... Yes, there were hundreds of RMs in Scotland. Glasgow had the most with Clydeside, Stagecoach and Kelvin. See here th-cam.com/video/nvDs1i7ggBs/w-d-xo.html

Thanks for showing this video.Strathtay also painted some RMs in red under the name Perth City Transport to compete with Stagecoach. It is ironic that Strathtay would eventually become a Stagecoach company through there purchase of Yorkshire Traction group.I believe that Strathtay also operated a couple of RMs in Arbroath for a short time.

When I moved to Reading in my 20's i remember route masters there. They were soon gone as I arrived.

I lived in Letham for a year as a kid, from 1991-1992. We often got these number 1 and 2 buses in and out of the city centre.

I enjoye riding on them while i was there. They were 30 year old buses on paper but had been rebuilt every 5 years at Aldenham Bus Overhaul Works so were still in good condition!

In these private Routemaster clips, you really get to hear the 590 action thanks to less traffic noise drowning it out as in London.
I noticed some Leopards as well. One sounded like a relatively late model with the altered gear whines. I grew up catching Leopards dating from 1981 (but probably late 70s chassis as they had those CAV mono control gear changers with the red light.

Yes, there were lots of other buses about but at the time i was just chasing the Routemasters. Wish now i had filmed everything, i mean i was using 3 hour E180 VHS tapes so tthere was no expensive film to buy ect. But can't change it now, i'm just glad i filmed what i did. Plus i did have to spend some time at work......

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus don't worry I regret not filming Mercedes Benz buses in the 90s while filming the few remaining (and I mean VERY few- two of each in the whole of Sydney) AEC Swift 760s (chassis new from Durban South Africa) and Aussie assembled 10.9m Nationals with a rented video camera in 1996.
I absolutely took the Mercs for granted (though liked them) but remember them just as fondly a the other two now. There were just so many of the latter and virtually non of the former.

@@jamesfrench7299 That's the trouble, you think they are around forever and then...bang! The're gone....plus i generally chased Routemasters plus a bit of other LT buses. Wish i just filmed everything! Am off now to work at the Manchester Beer Festival held in an old Railway Station in Manchester (look it up on Google, fantastic place) so won't be listing for about 8 days while i'm away. But there's a fair bit up for you to delve in to, 344 uploads and counting......

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus that's why I appreciate how you have heeded that lesson and put up new stuff showing a more eclectic mix of buses now. It may "feel" pointless but won't be in decades to come.
I want to do it as well but have anxiety from passers by and their reactions, especially where I live where people are extremely judgemental. I might have to grit my teeth but ideally prefer to film where they won't pose a bother.
Australians don't appreciate eccentric hobbies, least of all public transport interests.

Looked odd without rear route and number blinds

Yes, they had a very 'provincial' look to them although i like the colour scheme, it really 'grabbed' your attention!

@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Yes a nice colour scheme, failed to work out why the rear blinds were covered up ruing the charismatic style of the buses.
