Cool videos! e komo mai! I’m born and raised in Hawaii. Was living on the Big Island for years, but I live on Oahu now. Glad you made it and enjoy the islands!
I am in awe of your adventures. I was born in Redondo Beach CA in 1964. But have lived most of my life here in Oklahoma. But they can't take the salt water that still runs through my veins. Peace.
The mooring set up is as follows. Two 15’ lines with eye splices at each end cleated off. One end has a D-Ring connecting them. On the D-Ring is also a super heavy duty snap shackle for ease of employment. And there is a 6’ line with a fender attached. Kimberly or crew will jump in once the boat is on station and run a separate tag line through an eye splice with a thimble ( usually ) bring it back up and grab the fender line to her and attach the threaded tag line to the snap shackle. The fender is optional but, we have found that in tougher conditions it makes retrieving the bridal much easier. Easier done than said 🤙🏼
Yes Oahu is paradise! I went there many years ago and would love to go back.. Had relatives that lived there back then, unfortunately they decided to sell their house and move to the mainland.. I was like are you guys crazy to give up paradise for Tennessee...
I was pumped to watch the mainland to Hawaii passage. Talk about stepping out of your comfort zone. I’m digging this channel, I caught your interview with Andy and been watching ever since. Your vibes cool. I believe you said your passage back will put you in San Francisco, looking forward to seeing that. Wondering if you’d hook up with Moxie marlinspike when in the city, seem like you two would get along
0James, Hope you are well, FYI, there is a place in Fla, Foss Foam Products, that builds many replacement rudders, for old boats, like ours. They may have a mold for the Alberg 30😁 .Take care
Those trees at the beginning are so cool. I’m glad I found this channel. I enjoy watching your content even tho I’ve only sailed a couple times 20 years ago. Keep on living life to the fullest
Great to see you enjoying Hawaii and life in general. Followed your crossing daily via Predictwind your resiliency and inventiveness is amazing. That was an epic adventure one worth writing a book about. Look forward to more adventures from you. Mahalo
Happy to see you relaxing and having a good time! How are the rudder repairs coming along? What island will you head to next or are you going to hang out more on Oahu? You truly are in Paradise sir!
Hello there, would have to go back to remember exactly where he is headed but those questions are in his vlogs. Just fo let you know, if he answered that would be one less view for that video lol cheers!
Wow started watching videos on scuba diving as going to volunteer in the summer sometime for the Marine conservation, ended up watching these sailing videos thanks well done and im hooked on adventure now - your so cool !!
James, nice video, You seem to be a right laid-back cool dude, it comes across in your videos, no stress, just bring it on. Dont forget we find all the boat work, repairs interesting also.
Obrigado. Novamente espectular. Bom compartilhar a sua felicidade do mar connosco e mais importante é desenvolver a palestra afim de podermos também usufruir. Abraços Abraços e até breve.
Great to see you’re doing some touring sightseeing checking out some stuff that’s cool sounds like the trip was a little stressful hopefully I don’t know how long you’re gonna be there ? When are head back and do you have all the bugs worked out of your boat?
Awesome video. I would be sketched out trying to moor their solo.. how would one do it solo? Are there people that look up to Mooring balls there solo?
i know it is a little late for this question but i am a little late to the party, could you please explain the specifics of "just showing up to Hawaii" and dropping anchor or reserving a mooring or for a noob like myself What does in entail to be able to arrive and stay? if i was to learn to sil buy a cruiser and sail off into the sunset and hope to go to hawaii and explore what did you need to do for this?
Glad to see you chilling and exploring ...the journey is one thing but exploring new lands is a human thing. See if you can get some insight into the Native Hawaiian cultures sailing history. The Geology that formed the Islands..... The islands we're also a major Whaling base historically... Ships Songs and sailing art..😉 Down to Old Maui th-cam.com/video/YTIAaTUO0lI/w-d-xo.html Then theres the whole Pearl Harbour ww2 history.
@@SailorJames love the content. I'm actually in Long Beach - have any thoughts on LA Yacht Club vs. Marina Sailing for intro ASA courses? Also open to other alternatives, but I would like to be able to bareboat charter eventually.
James I’m from SLO but living in Redondo…if you ever need help on the boat I’m down (I do high end remodels/machining/cabinetry etc.) so pretty solid around tools/mechanical systems. Offers there.
James major respect for you, and that's why I'm mentioning something about swimming with the green turtles. I don't know what camera you were using, but from the looks of it, you were really close to them. The recommendation, but 6' feet is the minimum distance preferably 10' . Sometimes they will swim closer to you, and it's difficult to get out of their way I have had them swim right at me and when I dodged they followed me. To me it's all about minimizing impact on the turtles, and still being able to enjoy and be inspired by them. They get a lot of pressure from the tour boats, and though they have largely become accustomed to people, we still need to be mindful that we are a guest in their home, and not do anything to disrupt their feeding or daily activities.
I figured, like I said without knowing what camera gear, it would be hard to know, so I thought I’d throw it out there so others might read it and think twice about getting too close. We see lots of people new to the islands getting too close.
I hope you got a refund on your Towboats US Gold membership. Have you heard why Parker Marine (the Hawaii contractor for Towboats US) couldn't tow you in?

Thank you for sharing. Stay strong. Or in Hawaiian...e ikaika mau. Atb from down here in Nz.
If you like it on Oahu get over to Maui!! The snorkeling there is amazing!! Try and spend some time on Maui too!!
Awesome. Very interesting too 😎

Nice to see you adventuring in Hawaii. Glad you made it. How's the rudder?
Temporary fix is done! Doing sea trials today

James, I mustache you question. How do you keep your mask from leaking while snorkeling? I can't seem to get a good seal unless I shave the stash.
A very tight expensive mask…. You can also put Vaseline in your mustache, that’s what dudes did in the 70s
Only have to wear masks indoors and at hospitals…no need at sea man.

There is a video on my channel called “a boaters guide to Oahu” that covers everything you asked
Cant wait to be back on the road and out of lockdown BS. This sucks.
You're not in Kansas anymore Dorothy!
Ready to see you get under weigh on your own again. The turtles and pretty mooring babe were a nice break though!

If respectfully pointing out that our planet is a very fragile place is being a buzz kill, I'm guilty.
