    Dear Tristan, I am Italian and I have been in almost all places you were showing. Congrats you made a great tour. Foreste Casentinesi deserve more days … Camaldoli monasteries is very nice. This summer I will make Strada degli Dei… maybe another inspiration for your eyes and legs . It’s from Bologna to Florence . Old Roman way called Flaminia military. Stay tuned and I started to follow you my friend

    Amazing content, you really deserve more views. I just finished high school and your videos inspired me to go on my first journey! (1000km from Salzburg - Rome)
    I'm hungry for more!
    If I may ask, how do you support your trips? And how do you manage to have so much time for touring? Do you have a job and use the holidays or do you have sponsors and turned bikepacking into your job?
    Sorry for these questions but i'm trying to figure out my life and want to make bikepacking a big part of it.
    Greetings from Italy🇮🇹

      Many thanks for that and congrats on your first trip - that sounds like a great ride! I started out saving up from working and then just trying to stretch my savings as far as I could, and by living very cheaply - my first year of riding, from New Zealand to the UK, cost me something like £4500, which isn't much by western standards for more than a year of travelling. These days it's a little different, I have gear sponsors and make a living as a freelance content writer, so I can make money as I go along and no longer have to stop to work for months at a time. Depending on your skill set, figuring out a way to work remotely as a digital nomad might be possible, but if not then I'd start out by saving up as much as you can and then just budgeting hard once you start. You can get a long way on €5 per day if you're disciplined and wild camp every night! :)

    • @tristanrid

    Lovely video Tristan. Can I ask what tent that was in this vid? How do you rate it? I’m in the process of researching for a new lightweight one. Cheers 👍

    • @ShameerShahProject
      @ShameerShahProject 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Just to let you know I’ve shortlisted two branded tents - MSR and tarp tent. I’m leaning towards the MSR Hubba NX.

    • @tristanrid
      @tristanrid  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In this vid I used the Tarptent Rainbow, its an awesome tent. In some climates the single wall could be an issue with condensation, it depends where you plan to camp. I rate Tarptent very highly as a company, so I can definitely recommend them, whereas my experience with MSR products in recent years has been very disappointing, I feel they've really gone downhill. I used a Hubba Hubba Shield for a while and really didn't get on with it, eventually the pole snapped. Personally if you want a double wall I'd go with the Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL1. I'm currently using in Kenya and its a fantastic tent, i much prefer it to the MSR.

      @@tristanrid hey, thank you, that’s some great insight. I hope to finalise my decision soon. I roam a lot in colder climates, but the way things are currently going, warmer weather too. What’s happening in Kenya? Enjoy it mate, I’m originally from Nairobi 😊

    I loved this. I love Italy.
    I think I'm going to do this :)
    Would you(or anyone in the comments) be able to signpost me to any reliable resources around camping in Italy? It looks to be a mixed bag and I'd rather not be pulling .22's out of my hind quarters after angering a land owner :D

    • @tristanrid
      @tristanrid  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd definitely recommend Tuscany in particular, such a beautiful region. I'm not aware of any particular resources, I would just suggest staying well away from the coast as wild camping there is very difficult due to the landscape and population density. I found wild camping incredibly easy and pleasant in the mountains :)
