A better choice for waterline than the Class 231 is the Class 756, which is more of a suburb train since it'll operate on the Vale of Glamorgan and Rhymney Lines.

I agree with the 197 for Waterline, and sort of agree with the 196 for Connect, however not the 231. It’s a spitting image of the 755, which already operates on AirLink, and from my knowledge the 231 operates long regional services along the South Wales coast. If the 231 was to ever be added it’d certainly run on Connect over Waterline, however I highly doubt it’ll ever be added. I do see a possible future for the 196/197s though. I also disagree with the 230 on any operator because, as you said, it has a top speed on 60 MPH which, while Waterline isn’t by any means a high speed operator, is too slow.

It’s a spitting image of the 755, which already operates on AirLink, and from my knowledge the 231 operates long regional services along the South Wales coast. If the 231 was to ever be added it’d certainly run on Connect over Waterline, however I highly doubt it’ll ever be added. I do see a possible future for the 196/197s though. I also disagree with the 230 on any operator because, as you said, it has a top speed on 60 MPH which, while Waterline isn’t by any means a high speed operator, is too slow.
