I’m sorry but you need to practice soldering more. Your tip is improperly tinned, and looks in need of replacement. When you apply solder to the pads, you should heat the pad first and push the solder into them. Your method of putting solder on the tip and tapping it onto the pads creates dry and cracked joints. Also, you should tin the tips of the wires first before applying them to the pads. There are a lot of failure points.
Point r16 looked janky. I usually work at 630 degrees. Allows you a little extra time to melt and heat things up. I’m personally not a fan of flux pens and go for the syringe so I can add more then I need to especially if you need to push solder around if there’s too much etc. You want a nice and shiny dome of solder on your points and I run a habit of trimming the leads on my conductors as to not interfere with any neighboring points by accident. 10+ years of Xbox 360 rgh/jtag and PS3 mod chip installs will teach you the importance and the impact of all the little extra steps in keeping things tidy but will also show in success rates and life span +many other factors. Practice is relative. Obviously you got the hdmi on it so you know your way ‘round so you do you and keep at it. I recommend a j-tip for the hakko, makes getting around certain spots easier and you can get more or less precise on where you want your heat. Crunk covered the major bits but always nice to see someone doing their own installs and learning. Disappoints me when I hear about people doing send ins and receiving hot glued garbage then to turn around and send it somewhere else. Good luck man and keep at’er! ⭐️
@@Glitcher01thanks man! Yeah, my first HDMI mod went pretty bad, but since then I've done several more (including this one), and I've definitely learned a lot! I still have a lot to learn though for sure - so I really appreciate your constructive feedback! 🎉
Free advice. 99% of AliExpress tech is stolen tech & built like shit. Not throwing shade but you gotta be careful what you recommend if it fails or cooks someone's board.
Great question! So, there are more complicated mods that work on all N64 consoles, and they're actually cool too because some of them even offer extra features like component YPbPr output and 480p! Here's a good website explaining some of the different options: www.retrorgb.com/n64rgbcompatible.html
@@RRolon999yes, completely overkill. The Eon 64 only taps into the S-Video signal. However, you could do this mod and get one of the RetroTINK scalers - like this one: www.retrotink.com/product-page/retrotink-2x-scart
Oh yeah, you definitely want to get it from a reputable source. I left some links in the description for some good places. Personally I bought it from the AliExpress link in the description.
@@FairyKid64 I got it via Ali Express too now, and it arrived way sooner than they promised! I already installed it and my N64 has never looked more beautiful. 😍
Just in time, was not sure which mod to get.
This one seems easy and cheap, thanks for the video.
You bet! I'm glad it helped!
I know this is a little silly but does Composite/S-Video still work with the RGB mod?
Not silly at all! They do still work. I should have mentioned that in the video!
@@FairyKid64 Very Cool!

Hey man, thanks for the tips! I'm always willing to learn something new. I'll give it a try next time.

SUPER helpful video, thanks man!

What if you did this on a cpu-05? Whats the complicated one you mentioned? Thanks!

@@FairyKid64 would it be overkill to do this RGB mod and use an eon 64?

Will it work with the pal console?
No, unfortunately I don't think so (unless it's a PAL-M console from Brazil).
I've been thinking about getting this chip, but every place selling it seems very sketchy. 😛

@@FairyKid64 Thanks! I got it from AliExpress too now, and with Klarna 30 days payment, so I only have to pay it if or when it arrives! :--D
