Not sure why you didn't just dump the first melt into the mold. It was 24k already. Now you have spent money on acids and time and have to chase 0.3g of gold through your system. Apart from that it was an interesting experiment. At least we now know that the mass value on the goldbacks is accurate.
I think the purpose was to validate if the goldback was 24k or not. He lost 0.3g in the process, which could be gold but could also be base metals, I don’t know. The company that makes them is certified so I think they're pretty legit. The issue with them from what I've read is that they're sold at an ~100% premium over the spot price so you're essentially paying double what they're worth.
The idea of heating the mold before you pour the ingot is to remove the moisture. This prevents a "steam explosion" when you pour..... I think you should turn off the burner on the mold just before you pour it and see if you can prevent the "wave lines" on top of the ingot and get a perfect mirror finish. Just a thought.
Nope won’t work when you doing it with a flame. This will only work if he remelted the ingot upside down in the same mould ( so no sharp edges on top) in his electric furnace. It will have a far better finish but I think it will get stuck in the mould while they cold down.
The idea of the flame on as the metal is poured is called a reducing flame. It prevents the air from coming in contact with the surface of the metal as it freezes in the mold. Otherwise it would frost instead of shine.
If you watch how big mints/refiners make their bars,(larger ones, not stamped) they usually start with gold shot, and heat it directly in the mold in a furnace. With a graphite lid on the mold itself……it heats evenly and turn out perfect
Wow! I've watched your videos in the past and was blown away by your procedural and quality standards. How exciting to see you testing goldbacks!! I have to admit watching the video where you cut them and melted them did hurt my heart a bit though 🤣 thank you for this one

I'm very curious if Sreetips can find a water clear equilibrium of Sodium Metabisulfite and dissolved gold. It would be a great way to hide your fortune...
Since I ask a lot of questions, here is one more, just to keep up the tradition I've noticed a lot of microscopic beads of gold and other metals on the used melt dishes, as well as purple discolouration (which, I assume, is also gold) - are You usually processing those as well in order to recover metals? If yes, how the process looks like and what methods do You use?
I saved all my old melt dishes. Someday I’ll try to get the beads off and do a recovery/refining. But I’m very low on time. Getting towards the end of the season.
Try soaking the melt dishes in dilute Sulfuric Acid. It's just Melted borax. Any metal beads inside the dishes will come out easily after all the borax has been dissolved.
I wonder how much precious metals are in that cardboard base of the fume hood ( I still want the old shirt you used to wear 😀)...might be a fun experiment. Love all your videos brother...great for my mental health Cheers😉 The Sweitzers

Hello old friend. It has been far too long since I was last here to visit with you. I have a stack of these gold notes so this is going to answer a lot of my questions. I have added oxygen to my propane now. What a difference having that extra 2000F deg to the cup. It will easily boil my silver if I am not careful. I sure learned a lot from this post and the right thing to do is send mine to you for processing.Ya rock old friend. I hope to be back a bunch now.Take care eh.
Dean, good to hear from you. Stacking Gold Backs is better than stacking dollars. Long after the dollar is gone and forgotten, those Gold Backs with still be valuable because they contain GOLD. I want to convert to oxy/propane myself. But for now, oxy/acetylene is my current rig. Take care.
I was able to buy an oxygen bottle outright so there is no monthly demurrage charges. I got the regulators for propane from the net. The torch I had. I am using a rosebud tip as well. I really like it. It has about a 9/16 across tip that I still run a nice, long, clean feather at low pressure. Just like a standard tip used for heating. It was a whole new learning as it will still boil silver if not really on the ball. I like the propane as it is easier to manage than acetylene and runs a lot cleaner . A lot less $ as well.@@sreetips

I was able to purchase my oxygen bottle outright so no monthly charges. $80.00 per fill when needed. A rosebud tip run low and just enough gas for just the right heat. Not too high and a full 1/2 inch wide flame. It is awesome. I have always wondered why propane tips are so different from Acetylene ? If anyone knows I will sure like to hear from them and I will pass that along to everyone. Nice easy day on this Xmas post. See you again and take care old friend.
That was an interesting novelty. I had never heard of Utah Goldbacks before today. As always enjoyed the video.
He's still out $1,200 as a business expense for a video just for entertainment purposes. His normal videos don't include expenses outside of what he does anyway when he is refining scrap.
@@shotout74 not true on every point you tried to make……$1200 as a business expense where he got a $800-$900 return is a loss yes, but in content creator expenses is a very small one. Most TH-camrs lose money on the production of their videos (just for “entertainment purposes” because what else are they creating the content for?!) and make it back plus profit on the back end. AND every single one of his videos INCLUDE expenses….BUYING the scrap gold itself (it doesn’t just magically appear)…..BUYING the chemicals (which aren’t cheap) $1200 is very cheap to produce content especially when 2/3s if that investment comes back just in the final product alone
@@ap3314, that’s right, but the gold content is stated on the goldback and that’s right at what he recovered. The difference in price and yield is the cost of producing them. Some people might call that “premium”. That difference being so high is why I only bought a few when this was a new thing, just to see. I haven’t bought any since and I don’t foresee ever buying any more. There are better, more efficient ways to accumulate gold.
I think is was about two grand. The ones have 1/1000 of an ounce (31.1g x .001 equals 0.0311 grams pure gold). The Fifty Gold Back has 1/20 of one Troy ounce or 1.55g pure gold (1/20 time 31.1g equals 1.55g pure gold)
I can’t see the justification how a 50 costs $200 when it has just over $100 of gold in it. They can’t be legal tender and only worth the gold that is in them. So if you go into a shop can you only get $50 worth of goods and if so then they are useless. I do not understand and looking online tells you nothing but what they cost to buy, sreetips showing the gold has 1/2 that number and on the note it says 50.
@@Vile_Entity_3545 Its called utility value. Just like you would not sell your perfectly good running vehicle for its melt value you would not sell your Goldbacks for their melt value which is the spot price. Goldbacks are worth more than the spot price due to its utility value of them being put into a hyper fractional spendable form which are being accepted by a lot of businesses in their home states. The premium or utility value stays with the Goldback as long as that Goldback retains its utility (form factor). If you have GBs that you try to spend at a business and that business owner tries to accept them at spot then they are trying to get one over on you just as if a business tried to sell you a gallon of milk for 50 dollars and you would do what any normal person would do and that is go elsewhere to buy your milk. In the end, the market decides the value and it seems that especially for the one denomination its actually above a 100 percent premium in a few places. If anything this deconstruction process shows just how much goes into a Goldback and it's an amazing technology.
I was waiting for someone to take a chance on these things and see if they were legit. For the next experiment can we boil down some silver in solution to see what happens like we did for the gold in solution the other week?
What was the initial idea or intention to do this, did you just wanted to see if theres the exact amount of gold as stated in them? or did you come a cross theese notes for cheap and thought you could make a profit out of them?
The idea was to try to hit a home run for my channel with new and interesting content. At least I made it to first base with this one. I did get to keep the gold. That was my profit.
What’s the karat weight? I bite my younger 15.2 g So where do you get those Utah gold vaccine? How much do they cost? You didn’t really tell us anything about what the recovery is versus the cost
I paid $1928 for ten, 50 Utah Gold Backs. I needed them to make the video. The value is in the video, not in the gold that I recovered. That was just a bonus.
Greetings. Forgive my ignorance as I am not a chemist. You had 15.5G gold to start with. Why add the silver fork? What did that do for the your refining steps? And Finally, what happened to the silver? Thank you for the video. Happy holidays.
Its a 50 goldback that weighs 1/20 a troy ounce. Gold spot today is 2075. That means the 50 goldback should have 1/20 of 2075 dollars or about 103.75 value. Did i do it right?

I've had that exact calculator since high school in the 80s. Still going strong.
I don’t think sreetips reached a conclusion either, although he mentioned the gold content is pretty close to what the company advertises, whatever pretty close means.
@@Mephisto707 I thought about that too, but being a North American and given that this is a US product produced with a stated amount and carat of gold in it, I am inclined to go with 'the glass is half full' on this one.
@@Mephisto707 I have a New Hampshire gold back that I won a while back, and I'll be darned if I'm going to melt the gold out of it because it is such a beautiful work of art. A lot of the extra 'value' is in the eye of the bill holder 😀

This time, the transition from gold sponge to liquid gold in your melt dish was especially beautiful! A joy to watch! :)
I was surprised that you didn't go outside with a mask or into your fume hood to melt the Goldbacks since the layer of gold is bonded to a polymer.
Gorgeous little ingot, it's such a more desirable form of gold than the Goldbacks are to me!
It would be nice if you explained why you're doing what you're doing at every stage - how it affects the process. Thanks! Fascinating stuff.
Go and look at is older videos. Many have full commentary but you should watch a few to get familiar with each step.. I just think he has got tired of repeating it dozens of times.
@@KallePihlajasaari I get how repeating such content could be monotonous as a creator however, good presentational etiquette requires (especially with content such as this when someone is presenting a process) the assumption that there are new viewers with every video. At least links to explainer videos of the process should be referenced in the video at appropriate timestamps. Expecting a casual viewer to sift through hundreds of videos is not a realistic strategy for garnering interest in the channel.
@@EnFuego79 This was not a beginners instructions video, it was a GoldBack assay video. If you go to his profile, select videos, sort by Oldest date and then look for the video titled Gold Refining Complete Process for the Home Refiner" you get most of the information you are looking for.
I think he has demonstrated the process more often, more clearly and with more commentary than ANY OTHER youtuber. If you need more information you just need to go and read a book and join a few forums.

That was good always wondered if you melted them down would there be the right amount of gold in there.
Thanks!!
The company that makes them is certified so I think they're pretty legit. The issue with them from what I've read is that they're sold at an ~100% premium over the spot price so you're essentially paying double what they're worth.
@@justinstolz4481 I know I have some of them. That is why I wondered.
Nice to know they're made in the USA. Fake bills would probably contain Chinesium, and would just burn away in the flame.
Man......the gold turned out clean and beautiful sir. Top refining marks!
The "pour lines" are a desired trait in poured bars.
If you watch how big mints/refiners make their bars,(larger ones, not stamped) they usually start with gold shot, and heat it directly in the mold in a furnace. With a graphite lid on the mold itself……it heats evenly and turn out perfect
@@niagarajoe4402 yep and that is the difference between "cast" bars and "poured" bars.

I think, i like it better when you pour the gold solution, into a saturated solution of Sodium Metabisulfite.
i am fascinated with how clear the solution gets before the gold crashes out!
different experiments with different gold sources to refine are what i enjoy about your channel
Thanks for sharing Mr Sreetips 👍

Thank you!! They have recently added just a speck more to them so when you melt it can be exact now. I am so pleased with this!! Thank you
Since I ask a lot of questions, here is one more, just to keep up the tradition
I've noticed a lot of microscopic beads of gold and other metals on the used melt dishes, as well as purple discolouration (which, I assume, is also gold) - are You usually processing those as well in order to recover metals? If yes, how the process looks like and what methods do You use?
I saved all my old melt dishes. Someday I’ll try to get the beads off and do a recovery/refining. But I’m very low on time. Getting towards the end of the season.
And that's why I asked few weeks ago about them too if he's willing to sell them because they look really tasty 😅
Try soaking the melt dishes in dilute Sulfuric Acid. It's just Melted borax. Any metal beads inside the dishes will come out easily after all the borax has been dissolved.
I’ll give it a try to see what happens.
@@sreetipsthat would be a nice video or added to a video.

You amaze me with each video you produce. A few questions for you. 1. How much did you invest in the Gold Backs VS the value of gold bar produced? 2. How did you come up with the name sreetips? Cant wait to see your next adventure. Thank You. Bill
I traded paper, that declining in value, for real money: GOLD. The name sreetips is a meaningless word, like Kodak.
The video of that 2nd SMB addition was awesome. Very cool effect when that reaction happens
36:00 makes me wonder if you could heat the dirt that gold is found in to make it appear we’re it doesn’t seem present

Holy crap! So it's really that easy! Maybe there is something to them gold backs. I never really thought of giving them a chance... Not bad at all!

Hello again. @@sreetips I had oxy.propane on my cutting table at work. 2-1/2 inch TQ100 plate was cut with ease. It was a no brainer when setting up the new bench as it runs sooooo much less expensive than Acetylene.
No black thingies'' floating around the shop and adding the oxygen gave me all the heat I will ever need.

I was wondering how much different in weight a container of liquid gold would be to the same amount of distilled water.
Gold is 19.3 times heavier than water. A gallon of gold would weigh about 161 lbs.

A solution with gold dissolved in it will be heavier than the same volume of liquid water with no gold in it.
Wouldn't these be worth more as gold backs?
Probably
That precipitation with the seaweed motion was beautiful!
That was an interesting novelty. I had never heard of Utah Goldbacks before today. I just feel bad for you because if i figured it correctly just getting to the part of the video where you weighed the button cost you over $1,200. That is a lot of outlay for our entertainment. As always enjoyed the video.
His “profit” is made from TH-cam ad revenue…..that’s why he can do videos where it’s either a push or a small loss and still be profitable
Yeah I know how that works, thanks.
@@shotout74 you said you “feel bad”…..there’s no need to feel bad if you know how that works…….thanks 😂
Close to $2k worth of Gold Backs melts down into less than $1k little bar of gold?
It wasn’t $2k. The 50s are 1/20 ozt each, so 10 would be 1/2 ozt or about $1k.
@@CuttinEJBut 50 goldback costs 216$. The price of goldbacks he cut was 2160$. He got only about 1000$ worth of gold.
I did this for the show. A million views is worth about ten grand. Plus, I get to keep the gold.
I’ll use the ad revenue generated by this video to buy more GOLD.
What did you pay for these, and is a 50 Back physically 50 times larger than a 1 Back???
I think is was about two grand. The ones have 1/1000 of an ounce (31.1g x .001 equals 0.0311 grams pure gold). The Fifty Gold Back has 1/20 of one Troy ounce or 1.55g pure gold (1/20 time 31.1g equals 1.55g pure gold)
Interesting. So they're more expensive but easier to trade than coins/bars. Could be a fantastic way to destabilise!
Maybe sulphuric acid would have been better to start with
would you ever melt your small bars into a large bar?
Absolutely.
One expensive way to get a half oz 😂. Love the content.
@@Vile_Entity_3545 just like fractional bullion bars and coins here the cost of manufacturing, etc "premium" will raise the price
If anything this deconstruction process shows just how much goes into a Goldback and it's an amazing technology.
is the ice distilled? seems like it would contaminate the gold
Tap water contamination in parts per million.
I was waiting for someone to take a chance on these things and see if they were legit.
For the next experiment can we boil down some silver in solution to see what happens like we did for the gold in solution the other week?
15.2 plus 15.2 is almost thirty and a half grams, a few grams over.
Every melt video of the Goldbacks come back over. Great video, beautiful bar!!
A troy ounce is 31.1034768 grams, so recovering 30.4 grams is a bit under. A non-troy ounce is 28.3495 grams.
No stannous test? You know you have us all trained :D
I add silver so the nitric can penetrate. I recover the silver from the blue liquid and run it through my silver cell.
That was an outstanding refining and a beautiful gold bar.
Its a 50 goldback that weighs 1/20 a troy ounce. Gold spot today is 2075. That means the 50 goldback should have 1/20 of 2075 dollars or about 103.75 value. Did i do it right?
