    I have 2 - 105 Gal. Marathon Lifetime Warranty water heaters. Both installed in our new home in May of 2000. The reason for two is 4 bathrooms with showers with multiple hand and body sprays plus rain heads. Also 75 gal. spa tub, two laundries and three dish washers. Never run out of hot water and both are working beautifully. I suspect Rheem will continue to support these great water heaters. I couldn't be happier.

      There more efficient options for ppl willing to ditch the tank or have access to NG. But for someone that feels the need use electric resistance HWT it looks like one the best options on the market. Wonder did u do anything to limit heat loss in the pipes? Like by insulating them or returning the hot water to the tank?
      Thats why POS water heater r more efficient for ppl willing to use them. They r common in rest of the world but hardly see them in the USA.

      N C "FEEL THE NEED TO USE ELECTRIC WATER HEATERS " Well Skippy just so YOU KNOW Not everyone has access to Natural Gas or Propane nor does Everyone have the space for a storage tank. Even if they have access to Natural Gas or Propane they might not have a direct supply line meaning they would have to rely on a Gas company that delivers, I can tell you this my energy bill was cut in HALF once I switched from a Propane Water Heater and Clothes Dryer, IN HALF. So Skippy not EVERYONE has the luxury of Cheap gas to cook, dry clothes and heat their homes, but your free to continue to STUPID ASS IGNORANT COMMENTS all you want. Freaking MORON!!!!

      We have (1) 105 gallon rheem waterheater. In a typical house, a large waterheater is 50 gallons. Recently I replaced the heating elements on my waterheater and drained the tank. I was surprised how fast the water heated up after I filled it and turned it on. Have you tested shutting off one of your waterheaters to see if it'll keep up?

    I bought this water heater th-cam.com/users/postUgkx8G49mV71sAzUl9shXyLW-r3XgHH9EVh1 for use in my bus conversion. I installed it under my kitchen sink and it is fed by a high efficiency on-demand LP water heater. It is both a backup hot water source as well as a water saving device since we have hot water on demand rather than having to wait for the gas on demand water heater to finish its ignition cycle. I decided on this water heater due to the fact that it only draws 1300watts when it's ON instead of the 1500 watts that most Water heaters this size draw. In an RV a couple hundred watts can be a big deal. With very low standby losses, I don't have to worry about excessive power consumption. When propane is not available for our gas water heater, in conjunction with our low flow shower head there is enough hot water available to shower, albeit we won't be taking "hotel showers." Also very happy with the recovery rate of this water heater. Granted, it is quite small, but it does exactly what we need it to do.

    We have one (80 gallon)... 11 years old. Just getting the thermostats and both heaters replaced today. I think that is going to be about $400 (not sure what the service charge is yet). Still that's not bad compared to replacing every 5-8 years.

    We absolutely love our marathon 105 gallon water heater. We installed it in 2004 it has lasted 15 years, recently it started leaking at the bottom (we have a safety pan) which is a steal fitting that connects the bottom tank to copper drain pipe valve. We currently have an off-peak meter provided by our electric company. We have a five bedroom house multiple kids and three hot tubs in the house and we never run out of hot water, I’m off to pick up a new one today the price is well worth it. Lenny from Apple Valley

    My question is about the Polybutylene tank. if I remember correctly
    Polybutylene piping failed in homes due to it would deteriorate and
    crack from the inside out. When it blew it blew. It was a ticking time
    bomb in your home. There was a class action lawsuit against this stuff
    for years so what make this Poly any better than the previous ?

    • @galehess6676
      @galehess6676 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stated “Polybutylene plumbing systems” mentioned in the US legal case were pipes made from Polybutene joined to fittings made from acetal resin. Premature failures were caused by the use of acetal fittings and poor joint assembly techniques. Acetal is not suitable for use in the transportation of hot water with a high chlorine concentration, however PB-1 performs well under similar conditions.

    How do you turn these things down? From the bottom piece of plastic that comes off? It looked like it was set on 110, so I turned it completely the counter=cloclkwise up to however far it went, cause I couldn't believe it was actually going higher than 110 and that is where it was when started, so then I thought my Mom had it wrong, but I can tell now she had it right which means tomorrow when I turned it back to 110, (it only goes from 110 to 170) that means even at a scalding 110, there is no way to get it lower than this, or is the thermostat broke? I can't afford this thing, $215 a month from 2 loads laundry, 2 showers a week, seems crazy to me. Wondering is tankless would be cheaper??????

    • @ravenstarver1360
      @ravenstarver1360 ปีที่แล้ว

      110 is very low, normal is 130. It's likely electric heating or AC that's costing that much, not the water heater.

    I had one of these, Lifetime warranty. I opened my water heater closet to drain/flush the tank after 2-3 years, the tank at the bottom had collapsed and was leaning against the wall of the closet. It wasn't leaking but there was a strain on the piping. I had purchased it at Home Depot. They didn't sell them any more (too many problems?). So I had to replace this water heater with a lifetime warranty for a conventional electric water heater. Good idea but they didn't field test this product. When I attempted to contact the company the phone numbers were no good.

    • @nc3826
      @nc3826 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      NG is great since it relativity cheap if u have access to it. But tankless units tend to have a higher failure rate so higher water quality and more maintenance is required to make them last. Also they have a higher initial cost and there is still heat loss in the lines.
      POS Water Heater the most efficient option overall and to gets u the hot water faster too. Especially in short water use situations like washer ur hand, When more water and heat can be wasted just waiting to get warm water.(Unless u wash ur hands in cold water?) And if ur like the many ppl that dont have access to NG.

      Georgia Power is not in the business of selling gas. They sell electricity. In fact, they GIVE builders free electric water heaters to install in new construction to sell more electricity. If I were the builder of a spec house, I'd take the free electric water heater from Georgia Power rather than lessening my profit by installing a gas unit, even if gas is being used for the range and fireplace and heating.

    Hmmmm....Polybutylene. Lot of bad memories with Polybutylene Quest piping. More to the point about the cost;are you going to live in your home long enough to recoup the difference? Still have steel elements that rust out and/or fail. Still need to flush the tank yearly. Hardly maintenance free. I'd do some real searching with owners across the country and what kind of failures with these they've seen. Just blindly buying one for $1,200+ doesn't seem like something well reasoned.

    The tank is made of polybutalene?!? The same stuff that they made faulty leak prone pipes out of and was banned by many states? Of all the plastics around you pick the most infamous one!?! The only one known to degrade in the presence of regular tap water? This game of intentionally designing extremely short lived water heaters is criminal.
