I am getting my first dog in about a month from now. And she is a miniature dachshund and I've loved watching your Stella videos as I prepare to get my new dog.

You'll never own another breed of dog. Once you have a dachshund you become loyal to the breed. They are the best dogs in the world.

Stella is so cute!!! She looks a lot like my Maude (I have 2 long hair-mini dachshunds and have raised the breed for many years). I see so many potential dachshund owners in here and wanted to throw out a couple tips: for spaying- try to make sure all their baby teeth have come out before, on occasion, they can need a baby tooth extracted (just be in communication with your vet). Back health- dachshund back health is core to a long, happy life. Keep them on a healthy diet- no people food. Keep them exercised regularly. Stairs are fine for dachshunds, but I restrict mine from jumping up and down from furniture.
I have had two dachshunds, both of which have lived to be 18 years old. I'm now 81 and just had to put my baby down last 4th of July. I would love to have another one, but I do agree it's a lot of work and a lot of expense. My heart yearns for Spanky. He had back surgery at a year and a half old. It was $5,000. And he was very mischievous I think all together over the 18 years I had close to $10,000 in him. He had chewed a rose bush one day I thought it was a thorn in the back of the throat, took him to the vet she had to nest the size him come to find out it was a stinger from a bee that he bit while he was chewing on the roses. I could go on forever with all the mischievous things he did. But he was the most loving dog I ever had and I wish I could have him back he was a red long haired dachshund.

Thanks for showing Stella’s first year. My mini dachshund is 13 weeks now and I’ve had her for a month. She’s a doll! I can understand about chewing all the bed lol. She’s on her 2nd crate mad 🤦🏾♀️😂

Thanks for sharing your Dachshund Stella with us. I have owned many Dachshund's in my life but my last one who lived for 16 years was special and different. We bonded in a way that was so special. I had bone on bone problem in my left knee, I would lay in bed in so much pain, my dog knew when it hurt me. She pushed her nose into my left knee and pushed both paws on it. Amazing how they could tell. Had me left knee replaced and she stopped. She was a long hair mini female and looked like Stella. I plan on getting a new Mini Long Hair Dachshund puppy in about a year or two. Oh my I miss my doggy, life goes on.
I recently got a new mini doxie and for some weird reason she didn't cry at all the first night its like she didn't miss her mom at all

Would like to see products that worked for her. Our doxies destroy anything stuffed too. What about dental care? They hate brushing.
I've tried brushing Stella's teeth a few times and she hates it too! Still working on finding a teeth cleaning method that works for her
Advice on create training please! We got a 9 week old dapple Dodson and you put her in the create at night time and she barks and barks and barks a whines. Help please

Aww! My recommendation is to be super consistent and try not to give in to the crying and barking because then they will learn that it gets them out and keep doing it. Use positive reinforcement during the day (lots of treats in the cage, going in for only 1-3 minute periods at a time, playing in the crate) so the crate doesn't seem so scary at night!

She has a long haired coat which needs to be brushed daily to keep it from matting

Hey Holly, we're living in Vancouver and have a 6 month old, long haired mini Doxie! He's black and Tan and called Alfie! We love him loads! I know you talked about Stela having reactivity issues, did she ever have aggression issues? My little guy hates it when we try to move him from a comfy spot on the sofa or take a bone from him, did you even have any signs of this with Stela?
Aw! love the name Alfie! As a puppy she would never be aggressive, but she did get tense when I’d reach for her food or bone which is an early sign of food aggression. So I started practising everyday sharing food. I’d feed her and put the bowl down, then take it away, then put it down and play with the food in my hand, hand feed her, take it away, give a bone, take it away and give it back immediately. I found that when she thought I was taking the bone away for good, she would growl, but when I practised taking it away then giving it back immediately she learned that it’s okay if it gets taken away because sometimes you get it back. After all that repition with food she got better and has no issues now!

I’m thinking of getting a mini Dachshund and I’ve watched a few videos thank you they’ve been super helpful! I’m really nervous tho bc I have health issues that might keep me from taking care of a pup. I’ve had a puppy before and it was a lot of work. How long do you think it takes to get them fully trained?
After owning several dogs in my 54 yrs.....4 dachshunds....I will promise you that they're not easy to potty train....so by age 6....hopefully they'll get it...but THEY DON'T CARE. If they want to go inside, they WILL 🤣🙄. HOWEVER....IM ADDICTED TO MY 2 WIERDOS.

Sorry I can't attach pics...but I'm a Cancer survivor, and massive other health problems...39 surgeries and maybe another soon. However I'm still glad they were there for me...🥰😘
How did you get Stella ready for her first plane ride? I’m about to go on my first trip with my mini he is 8 months and has never been on a plane and I’m worried on how he will do. Also do you have any advice on getting him used to the carrier for the plane ride?
Her first time the vet gave her a calming pill and I slowly introduced her to the carrier she was going to be in with treats and positive reinforcement!
Holy shit, i was just watching some Dachshund vids and WOW all these pronunciations are the same, but man.
I was brought up in Australia, and as far as i can tell, we all pronounce it as Dash. Hound. so Dachshund, to us is dash-hound. Like 😂

It tells me, an ole fart, that nature is trying to tell you to let her be a mom. Your a beautiful young lady an I would have really hate it if your mom had fixed you when you were young. The esttoy to ply with for any dog for me ha always been a car fan belt that I would boil in beef broth. They will never tear it up.
Coompletely boring. Repetitive. Dog slept the whole time.
