Would Steelers' defense REALLY change if Teryl Austin was fired, but Mike Tomlin remained?

    Keith Butler and James Harrison already spilled the beans! Tomlin runs the defense! Butler said he never drew up one play for defense ! Coach T did,out his own mouth!

    They need to bring in special consultants on BOTH offense and defense. Bring in a passing game coordinator on offense and a senior defense assistant on defense.

    Nobody cares if they're a Top 10 or even Top 5 "takeaway defense" if that's the ONLY thing they do well, which is what's happening. Wow, great, they get an interception per game. They also give up 400+ yards per game and Tomlin doesn't care because he's only focused on that 1 INT.

    • @darth254
      @darth254 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      exactly! They are not playing straight-up conventional D well enough and get the other team to punt after minimizing the yardage, first downs, and ultimately ball control.

      That's not all Tomlin thinks about. The narrative that Tomlin don't care, or is happy with where this team is , is pure trash. He wants the same thing that us fans do, wins, PO wins , and championships. The man probably works 15 hrs a day trying to right this ship. He has his faults, but that's definitely not one of them

      @@kentsturgill5945If what you say about Tomlin is true, then why doesnt he change his ways? He knows his football philosophy isnt going to work in todays NFL. So why wont he change according to what needs changed? He just keeps on rolling the same ol dice from year to year. It seems everyone in his staff are just there to be his scapegoat. They get fired, but he stays, why???

    Honestly Tomlin lost that locker room. Everyone kinda started to fall apart at the end after the injuries. I just dont think this was the same team after Russ started either its almost like his presence slowed down the defense because we were winning games with Justin and our defense was pulling it off and Justin was starting to find a rhythm. I genuinely want Justin to start a aeason and see how he does. Worst case we lose a bunch and get a high draft pick and ill take a couple losing seasons to get a Jayden Daniels or CJ Stroud

      Unprepared is the key word-I didn’t track it this year, but last season, nearly every opponent scored on their first, second or both possessions.

    They can fix their culture problem in one move. ‘The Steelers are announcing that they have release Larry Ogunjobe, Patrick Queen, and Donte Jackson. We appreciate their contributions to the team, but they put plays on tape that are unacceptable, from an effort standpoint, for the Pittsburgh Steelers. When we say ‘the standard is the standard,’ this is what we mean. In somewhat related news, we have hired James Harrison as a defensive assistant coach. If any players are reading this right now, I suggest that they log out of their social media, and report to the weight room. Training camp starts on July 16.’

    If our defense is going to be as bad as it was at the end of the season we need to cut the payroll close to half of what is now. Watt didn't have a great season. Fitzpatrick wasn't worth anywhere near his salary. Larry is overpaid and just not very good. I hated getting Sutton and everybody gave me a hard time when i said so. Also Porter is better than average cb but not a shut down corner.

    The fact neither mentioned the whole "Matching Jumbo personnel with Nickel" thing shows you how many of the PPG/Ch.11 guys are utterly unqualified or just incompetent.
    Sorry, I try avoiding being like this, but these are the people who lob softballs to Tomlin on a week in week out basis. Not mentioning that embarrassing fact with the trivial/questionable assessments is just bad. Drafting an edge? Continuing to draft defense? Gtfoh 👎

    The secondary has been getting picks off of errant throws from QBs under pressure for years… they have some good compilation videos to check out and very few of those INTs come from a DB glued to the WR or cutting under the route… in short, very few because of outstanding coverage, instincts or baiting a throw.

    The regular season seems to be about checking boxes.....OK great, we got so many sacks and so many turnovers, but when push comes to shove in the playoffs, game plans and scheming matter above all else. And that has been inherently missing from day 1. We all know the questions surrounding MTs knowledge of the Xs and Os. He's a great one on one communicator and team communicator but his knowledge of game planning has been suspect for a very long time. Didn't we bring in the NYG coach to specifically combat the Patriots one game?? This lack of scheme and EFFECTIVE game planing has been missing for years. There is a very definitive plus to coaching consistency but it comes with a cost. And that cost is his lack of bringing forth a competent and winning game plan when the season comes to a close.
