    i think the reason i've learnt so much from you is not because of your skill or dialogue; it's how human you are. You're real. You're not all "business-y". You give off an empathetic vibe and express yourself in a way i can understand. I go hard with that

    "How you use flams the most"? Everywhere, in every way! Flams are probably my favorite type of accent, and I play them across toms, snare, and sometimes even the bass drum (flamming with a double pedal); an interesting thing I've discovered is when flamming between two toms, the tom that's hit second comes through _much_ more than the first one, even if the velocity was the same, so I exploit that too.

    • @ILikeWafflz
      @ILikeWafflz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      #6, #7 Those do sound really cool! I always do synced kick-snare hits, but it never occurred to me to flam them. I'll take these to the kit next time I'm there!

    This morning while playing at church .. flam tap tap sticking as 16th notes between hi and floor tom but resolve the bar with a single stroke and paradiddle ending with a single snare note on count 4. kick on 1 and 3 ;) sounds awesome.

    @jonpryor2656 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Mark Giuliana used to use a flam between the snare and floor tom. Really liked that. I've heard him do it on several tracks on various albums.

    I always like to play flams to get a pocket feel in my drumming. I also like to split them between the snare and hi-hat on the 2th or 4th beat.

    The song i thought of when you were “flamming” on the snare and toms was Nirvana’s “In Bloom”, Dave Grohl loves using flams in his drumming

    I'm 49 years old, been playing almost my whole life but am mostly self taught. I always played flams beginning with my right hand as the grace note. For the last year I've been working on rudiments. I still have a hard time getting my left hand grace note flams clean.

    Hi, Stephen! I started recording a lot of myself. When I got to the flams, I noticed that I had played them on tne beat instead of playing before the beat. After changing my approach to the flams, I got a lot of new insights.
    Do you think that the flam on the record should always be before the beat?

    When you sped up #5, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what Smelly plays on NOFX's The Decline during the *really* fast bit

  • @yuriselukoff

    Funny tip I heard about flams:
    1. If your flams don’t sound right, make sure the grace note is low (low in volume, but in this case it’s the same as “starts at a low height above the drum”)
    2. If the flams still don’t sound right, go back to Step 1.

    To me this lessons are not about learning new stuff. They are about "if you know how to do it why don't you use it?"I've studied similar excercises but I never remember them while playing. Definetly will be implementing them on my classes

    Step#1 the Dave Grohl-flam sounds exactly like Peter Criss intro to Strutter ;) So that begs the question: is Dave Grohls father Peter Criss? It must be, you can hear it in the flam ;)
