I am a minimalist too, but you should never, ever be in your car without a flashlight (if you are stranded, you don't want to waste your cell battery using it as a flashlight), at least one bottle of water. and a small first aid kit. Safety first- esthetics second!
A blanket as well in case you get stuck in winter

Love your organization style. I would urge everyone to carry a car emergency kit with at least a first aid kit and weatherproof flashlight (in case your phone isn't charged). The car emergency reflective markers are good to have as well in case you have to pull over in the dark. Even with roadside assistance or emergency services, they may not be able to get to you immediately due to traffic, weather or bad cell service. I was able to assist someone in a medical situation because I had a first aid kit in my car. It is better to have a car emergency kit even though it takes up a little room than to be stuck in a situation where you need it and don't have it. Thank you for sharing with us all your style and organization ideas.

Every time I write you, you must think I'm crazy because I just am amazed at all you do and gush with admiration! My car (only one year old) looks nothing like this! You. Are. Amazing. I will honestly make an effort this week to DECLUTTER my car and use your ideas! Great job as usual, Nikki!
Love your minimalist approach in your car. I'm a mom of a toddler and I maintain my car the same, very tidy, clean and organize. I never eat inside my car and I don't keep anything there unless it's car related. It's very essential to carry survival items in the trunk in case of an emergency. I have an organizing cady in my truck with a first aid kit, extra drinking water, jumper cables, flashlight, spare tire, car jack, tire pressure reader, 1 gallon of water if car gets over heated, heated blanket, tool box, energy bars, extra napkins, collapsible bowl and cup, bags, umbrella, mesh, and squeegee. In my console i have console storage tray organizer with pens, calculator, hand sanitizer, gum and dental floss. Under that tray I always a cosmetic bag with two large compartments. There I have my mini body sprays, mini lotions, hand cream, hair ties, lip balm, mini mirror, wipes, tissue and extra change. Other console my car information and my personal documents. My other stuff inside would be child car seat, mini trashcan in my cup holder, car deodorizer and backseat toy organizer. My car specifications and maintenance record binder I keep in my home or car. I love your leather document organizer binder, where can I find one like that?
Nikki, please please please get an emergency seat belt slasher/window breaker/emergency light combo. And keep it where you, the driver, can reach it if you are upside down in your car or in a flash flood situation. You can always put it in a cute pouch! I also encourage people who live in areas with extreme weather to outfit your car aggressively. We couldn't have gotten away with that minimal trunk in rural Vermont!
Most cars are designed so their headrests come out to be used as a window smasher in case of emergency. Just wriggle the headrest upwards until it slides out and use the metal poles to pierce through the window

You really should have a first aid thing in your car and jumper cables cause you never know when you need those things ❤️❤️
Thanks for your thoughtfulness Melissa. I do appreciate it. With the type of car I have it is high risk using jumper cables, and can damage with the electical parts of my car. No worries because I have a great service with my car.

Melissa Kowalski I agree with Jumper cables. I had a new battery that froze on me and wouldn't start. Jumper cables in my trunk saved the day. And didn't have to wait on roadside who are not quick at all, to show up.
So you don't have to have a first aid kit in your car in America?
I just bought a new car and I'm trying so hard to keep up with weekly washings (it's white) and to make sure my teens remove ALL of their belongs when they exit the car. It gives me a sense of comfort and peace to get in and out of a clean car. They are old enough that I don't need all that junk either. Love your video.

I love your minimal car organization. I think my dad might disown me if I didn't have jumper cables (not that I'm not terrified to use them) and a tire gage in my car at all times. I have one of those collapsable crates in my trunk with essentials (lug nut key, jumper cables, windshield washer fluid, etc.). I was taught to always be prepared for an emergency and since I've been a member of AAA since I started driving, I'm not sure why it's important for me to have all this emergency gear. But it makes my dad feel better, so that's what I do. Crazy for a grown woman... but whatever it takes! The things we do for our parent's peace of mind...

I just returned a coffee maker to a friend. I borrowed it for an event. It's been in my trunk since March. Now I carry my folding chairs (in drawstring bag) in the trunk with bug repellent. This is just in case we attend an outing at the last minute. Believe me they have been quite handy. Thanks so much for the video.
Man, I wish my car was that clean. I love the accordion file for the glove box and uniformity of color in the files, bag and cloth. You hit it out the park once again. Striving to be more organized.

I'm the same way. I want my car clean inside and out. I do always keep a microfiber cloth in my side pocket to wipe anything off . Sometimes if I go to a drive up windows the drinks my be overflowed so it always comes in handy! TFS 👍
I can proudly say that my car looks just like that. I'm kind of obsessed about having it clean and shiny. The only things I keep well hidden in the trunk are recycled shopping bags for groceries and basic tools in case I need them. Regards from Panamá, love your work.

I am very much a minimalist when it comes to our car as well, but since I was caught in a flood last year, I now have a First Aid Kit plus a small blanket for emergencies under the boot.

You must be a mind reader. I have been watching other car organization videos bc I did not see one on your channel. I had been hoping you would do one. What a great surprise!
I have a busy schedule and often as I have meetings in the evening . I keep a toiletry bag / make up bag / mini office bag / black notecards /flip flops / jacket / coupons / blanket / reusable bags / extra gum packs ... I keep them all NEATLY in the trunk in a cardboard box ... it's great for moving it all out if trunk space is needed . The box can also double if I am carry food for a potluck in case it spills ( just trash the box )
The blanket is a life saver as often things that will not fit in the trunk can go on my seats and protect them . It's worked for 20 years. I don't like anything in my car as it looks messy and you are asking ppl to break in your car .
I like to have my emerg. stuff in my trunk, so I have an extra blanket, sweater, mini fire ext. water, food bars, etc.
Yes! Flashlight is important too.

Love the minimalist approach! I also use a reusable grocery wine bag with pockets for a mini cleaning kit (for bird droppings, which are murder on black paint) - a few cloths, water and spray detailer. Otherwise minimal. First aid and emergency kits live in the compartment with the spare tire out of sight. Thanks Nikki for a fresh approach to car organisation!

OMG my middle console is like that!!! But my bags are colored so the categories are clearly identifiable for little ones. My family always needs lotions, tissues hand sanitizer and all kinds of stuff so I have those tucked away. Love that purse holder.

Confession: I'd rather be towed than to take the spare out of my trunk and change it on the highway, right now. I have so much stuff in there right now, stuff to donation, items to return, bottles to return, blanket, chairs, toys and other stuff for the beach, etc. Nikki, last time my car looked like yours it was in the Dealership's lot waiting to be sold. Thank you for showing the hooks you use to hang your purse in the car. I usually put my purse on the passenger side in the front seat, but of course if I have to stop suddenly it goes flying!! I now have a great solution-Thank You!

I have tried that look, but gave up. I drive 16 miles to and from work everyday. I have reusable shopping bags, bags cost here in CA. I have a small first aid kit. I have a small car kit, just used the jumper cables a couple of days ago when I came home from vacation and my battery was dead. Jump took 5 mins. I have a blanket, a pair of ugly athletic shoes, a flashlight. Plastic gloves, a couple of bottled waters (not to drink), window cleaner and paper towels in a plastic ziplock bag. Two umbrellas, phone charger and GPS (I have only lived in CA 7 years and I still get confused) 16 miles is a long way from home if disaster hits. I want to be somewhat ready.
Smart thinking like yours is what makes the difference between disaster and mere inconvenience.
I am from No CA, and I keep all of that plus seatbelt cutter/window break tool, and being in the Sierra Nevadas I travel with a disaster kit ALWAYS. You could help save your family or someone else's!

FP Handmade I live in CA too and have to also be minimally prepared.
Get glass bottled water. It will last longer and the bottles are reusable. Wrap them in hand towels/towels in your emergency kit to have both and protect the glass. (Watch for VOSS 4 packs to be on sale) You can also pick up a 4 cup drink holder from a fast food place to hold the bottles to keep them separate.

You have to have a first aid kit and a warning triangle by law in Europe. I also carry a notebook and pen. Like the idea of keeping a duster available
