Life orb protean greninja covered walls as well since fairy types had just released. With things like mega aggron, Mega Kangaskhan, Mawile, unaware clefable, blissy, running a focus sash was never an option. The move water shuriken didn’t exist back then either. Greninja that season might as well had been a mega anyway, it’s faster, comparable stats, and one shots a good portion if not most of them with good coverage. Mine had Low kick, sludge bomb, ice beam and dark pulse or ultra sensory. That low kick made dealing with Mega Kangaskhan and Mega aggron a breeze. I also ran into literally 0 sturdy mega aggrons.
if you use it in gen 9 natdex you can pair it with mola for free wishes. basically any mon in need of recovery becomes 100x more viable when mola is on your team.
Ill never forget the first time I saw a Mega Aggron. It was a triple battle and I was using a sand team with Hippowdon, Mega Swampert, and I wanna say Sigilyph. I was against an equally scary team fighting a Gallade, Mega Aggron, and Charizard. Lets just say we went Mega vs Mega, and due to Aggron's bulk and Swampert's resists, it took forever for both of them to get worn out despite both being heavy hitters. Aggron survived 3 Earthquakes and hit Swampert with several Iron Tails, lowered his defense, and tried to finish him with a surprise Giga Impact. It was amazing. And for a next Mega showcase, what if you go with Manectric or Swampert if you havent already?

In balanced hackmons on showdown, I have mega aggron run speed boost. It's teammates set it up with screens and support, then aggron sets up cosmic power and protect, then goes crazy with metal claw. Leftovers for recovery, cosmic power to bost both defenses, and protect to buffer leftovers, which is kinda overkill when the oppone t is switching a lot and can't survive +6 attack from metal claw

Even though it has lowered defense, it gets STAB from Body Press also learns iron Defense, has reliable recovery, and a speed boosting move in Trailblaze so it can sweep. Aggron, on the other hand, has no STAB and no reliable recovery, takes up a Mega slot, and needs to rely on Autotomize/RockPolish to boost speed. Much more susceptible to the 4-move slot syndrome.

Plus, a 4-6% damage edge on your opponent menas you're aple to apply more pressure on them, or even require one less attack to know out who they have on the field. So no, the mega evolved aggron is not a waste with those thoughts in mind
I love Aggron. When I heard that the Hoenn remakes were happening, I bred a perfect Aron in Sun with the intention of trading it in to be my 'real' starter. Bred a bunch of eggs, saved, then hatched them to check IVs/ability, and reset to rewind it back into an egg (Did the same for my brother so he could have a Carvanha starter). Traded the egg to my AS as soon as it became possible, and went through the whole game with my buddy. The final battle against Steven was amazing. By this point the game was too easy so I used Set battle style and no in-battle healing to make it harder, and so the Steven fight became this great back-and-forth with one of us knocking out each other's pokes one at a time down to the last one each. And the final matchup was his Metagross vs my Aggron. We both Mega'd at the same time and began a beautiful slugfest, trading blow for blow, with my Mega Aggron coming out on top with a double turn after tanking Giga Impact like a champ. It felt SO COOL! And then during the post credits sequence where it displays the legs of your journey and important battles against gym leaders and showing a random one of your Pokemon, I got to see my buddy show up at each evolution stage during that recap! Aron against Roxanne, Lairon against Norman, Aggron against Tate & Liza, and Mega Aggron against Steven. It was beautiful. Hoenn was my favourite region growing up (loved Emerald to death), and getting to experience a journey like that again as an adult was just magnificent.
Would have been great if base Aggron shed the rock type upon evolving from Lairon. Or at least having it as Steel-Ground instead. Was my favorite pokemon as a kid when I didn’t care about type synergies and stats.
Max hp evs and max special defense evs will make it take some pretty hard hits with ease, especially with pure steel being an amazing defensive typing for a pokemon like aggron

Just a ton of damage. That titanic 230 base defense is already overkill, so doubling it with iron defense would make body press deal tons of damage against anything not resistant to fighting or with high enouph defense

Wish would faint thw user, but fully restore the hp of the pokemon switching in. There also heal beam, but that would require a double battle. There's also grassy terrain, which heals both sides a little each turn.for 5 turns, but it's temporary
Shuckle's is the weakest cuz is pitiful base 20 hp is pathetic. Not to mention bug and rock combined aren't a good defensive typing Mega steelix having base 75 hp means it has 354 hp and a max 614 defense with beneficial nature and max defense ev investment. It'll have a few weakness du to rock and steel not being a goof combo together, but steel carries most of the heavy lifting. It does have base 95 special defense, which helps it be overall more defensive than aggron Mega aggron has base 70 hp, which leaves it only 10 hp behind Mega steelix, which would leave it at 344 hp, so it's not a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. Aggron having 80 special defense isn't that bad, but with special defense investment, it can also take some really good hits as well. Mega aggron is built more for dealing damage while steelix has less offensive power in comparison, but meant for taking more hits
There is leftovers which recovers hp after every turn, but aggron can't hold it cuz it needs it's megastone to mega evolve. But such insane defense let's it take smaller physical hits easily

Sure, they both tie at 230 defense, but aggron wins simply because it's hp stat is higher, can actually take hits because of its typing, has actual speed and attack to use in a fight. It's typing doesn't help either as it gives shackle many weaknesses mega aggron wouldn't worry about, on top of already having a better hp stat than shuckle

It's got 230 base defense and special defense, but only a puny 20 base hp, meaning it maxes out at 244 hp after max hp investment. Hardly enouph to survive anything, and even worse considering the weaknesses of rock and bug combined

It's not really a problem, just trades its water weakness for a fire one, and it's still quite vulnerable to special attacks in general. Though it's funny how salty the ftko players get XD
80 base special defense isn't THAT low, it's actually mid-low, buts it's enouph to have a good amount to work with without being too scared of special attacks, not to mention steel is a naturally defensive typing as well. Such insane defense already stands strong on its own, so ev investment in special defense with cover it on both defensive ends pretty well

Against any with high special attack that actually is tuned up for offense, it won't hold up for long against anything super effective, besides it's not like it's weaknesses are difficult to obtain nor are they lacking in options.

So investing in special defense and its filter ability boost its survivability against special attackers pretty well. Aggron is a great defender, and not everyone run the same pokemon the same way. Have 1000 people only use corsola and a meta will show up where everyone's corsola will be different. Plus it's a real left hook when your special attacker doesn't deal as much damage against mega aggron as expected with special defense investment. Attacking inst everything, stalling, walling, and out surviving your opponent are also valuable strategies as well that have their own strengths and weaknesses as well

But in that case I'd say we're tackling it the wrong way by trying to knock it out with something super effective, instead lets exploit it's less noticeable weaknesses such as only being immune to poison and it's loss of the ability sturdy.

Burn would decrease the strength of physical moves by 50%, making it so mega aggron would have to use more attacks to get the same results, in addition to the fire offering chip damage as well. Salable having an ability to apply poison and use poison type attacks against steel types means it'll be a faster chip damage effect, but with no other effect of decreasing aggron's damage output. There is also ways to decrease the stats of the opponent as well
Shieldon doesn't have a movepool to help it capitalize on its insane defense. It's just raw defense and not much past that in regards to moves or abilities it can have
With such an absurd and overkill amount of defense at base 230, that hp stat is just to keep aggron in check so it isn't unkillable. It's special defense is mid, but it's insane defense means you can invest I to hp and special defense for more bulk all around

There's a ratio of defenses and hp needed to have a good defender, and shuckle is not it

Ok. Time to give shuckle an evolution and give it stance change. Here's my design:

Stats Total: 555

Speed: 3
Rest are the same as shuckle's.
Ability: stance change
Attack forme stats: Reverse Def and Atk, Spd and SpA. Done.
Signature move: Shell Hammer:
Power: 105 Acc: 100 Type: Rock Physical Description: Tie the shell on the arm and sweep all of the opponents. Will change to bug type if any rock move with power greater than or equal to 100 is equipped.

Difference being shuckle has a pathetic hp stat, negating any positive it would gain from its defenses. It caps out at 244 hp with max hp ev investment. Not tonmemtion it's typing also leave it vulnerable to many types as well

Just a ton of damage. That titanic 230 base defense is already overkill, so doubling it with iron defense would make body press deal tons of damage against anything not resistant to fighting or with high enouph defense

Wish would faint thw user, but fully restore the hp of the pokemon switching in. There also heal beam, but that would require a double battle. There's also grassy terrain, which heals both sides a little each turn.for 5 turns, but it's temporary

Who's 230 is harder? M Steelix, M Aggron, Shuckle?
Shuckle's is the weakest cuz is pitiful base 20 hp is pathetic. Not to mention bug and rock combined aren't a good defensive typing
Mega steelix having base 75 hp means it has 354 hp and a max 614 defense with beneficial nature and max defense ev investment. It'll have a few weakness du to rock and steel not being a goof combo together, but steel carries most of the heavy lifting. It does have base 95 special defense, which helps it be overall more defensive than aggron
Mega aggron has base 70 hp, which leaves it only 10 hp behind Mega steelix, which would leave it at 344 hp, so it's not a huge difference in the grand scheme of things. Aggron having 80 special defense isn't that bad, but with special defense investment, it can also take some really good hits as well. Mega aggron is built more for dealing damage while steelix has less offensive power in comparison, but meant for taking more hits

There is leftovers which recovers hp after every turn, but aggron can't hold it cuz it needs it's megastone to mega evolve. But such insane defense let's it take smaller physical hits easily

@@cultofmelshuckle is riddled with too many flaws to be comparable to aggron. Sure, they both tie at 230 defense, but aggron wins simply because it's hp stat is higher, can actually take hits because of its typing, has actual speed and attack to use in a fight. Shackle caps at 244 hp with max ev investment into hp, which is pathetic for any pokemon to have when being used to take hits. It's typing doesn't help either as it gives shackle many weaknesses mega aggron wouldn't worry about, on top of already having a better hp stat than shuckle

Currently there's a top 4: Eternatus Enternamax (250 base defense) and a tie amongst Mega Steelix, Mega Aggron and Shuckle (they 3 with 230 base defense)

It's got 230 base defense and special defense, but only a puny 20 base hp, meaning it maxes out at 244 hp after max hp investment. Hardly enouph to survive anything, and even worse considering the weaknesses of rock and bug combined

I’m just making the point that Shuckle has the same defense stat(I guess mega steelix also does, which would be barely tankier in the physical size than mega arggon(but not by much)).
It's not really a problem, just trades its water weakness for a fire one, and it's still quite vulnerable to special attacks in general.

80 base special defense isn't THAT low, it's actually mid-low, buts it's enouph to have a good amount to work with without being too scared of special attacks, not to mention steel is a naturally defensive typing as well. Such insane defense already stands strong on its own, so ev investment in special defense with cover it on both defensive ends pretty well
@@MucepheisBustyBust But who's going to bother wasting their nature & EVs to shore that up? Most 'pros' from what I've seen don't because they're too busy trying to maximize damage.
Against any with high special attack that actually is tuned up for offense, it won't hold up for long against anything super effective, besides it's not like it's weaknesses are difficult to obtain nor are they lacking in options.
@@XperimentorEES it has the filter ability, which means it only takes 75% damage from super effective hits. So investing in special defense and its filter ability boost its survivability against special attackers pretty well. Aggron is a great defender, and not everyone run the same pokemon the same way. Have 1000 people only use corsola and a meta will show up where everyone's corsola will be different. Plus it's a real left hook when your special attacker doesn't deal as much damage against mega aggron as expected with special defense investment. Attacking inst everything, stalling, walling, and out surviving your opponent are also valuable strategies as well that have their own strengths and weaknesses as well
@@MucepheisBustyBust Ah never messed around with megas enough to notice their abilities or types changed. But in that case I'd say we're tackling it the wrong way by trying to knock it out with something super effective, instead lets exploit it's less noticeable weaknesses such as only being immune to poison and it's loss of the ability sturdy.
@@XperimentorEES giving it a burn or having a salable use toxic on it would put a timer on it. Burn would decrease the strength of physical moves by 50%, making it so mega aggron would have to use more attacks to get the same results, in addition to the fire offering chip damage as well. Salable having an ability to apply poison and use poison type attacks against steel types means it'll be a faster chip damage effect, but with no other effect of decreasing aggron's damage output. There is also ways to decrease the stats of the opponent as well

Shieldon doesn't have a movepool to help it capitalize on its insane defense. It's just raw defense and not much past that in regards to moves or abilities it can have

With such an absurd and overkill amount of defense at base 230, that hp stat is just to keep aggron in check so it isn't unkillable. It's special defense is mid, but it's insane defense means you can invest I to hp and special defense for more bulk all around

Shuckle has 230 in base defense and special defense, so one stat is tied with aggron and the other is more the double aggrons, but it's hp maxes out at 244 with max hp investment. Plus it's attacking stats and speed are pitiful as well. And it's typing negates any sort of defenses it would have in the first place, so aggron would still be a better defender on your team, even on.thw special side because it's hp allows it to take more hits. There's a ratio of defenses and hp needed to have a good defender, and shuckle is not it
