Deep Cut's Role in Splatoon 3!

Woah! The new direct gave us a toooooon of new info! Some non-gameplay related things caught my eye though! Specifically Deep Cut's introduction!
While some may brush this off, others noticed that this connects them directly to Hero Mode!! Again, I feel like many would have already caught onto this, but that's why I give a bit of speculation as well!

i feel like deep cut and the squidbeak splatoon might be like, rivals to eachother but not hostile. they said like, "this is our turf, only we can scavenge here" so they're probably scavanging for cool items or things to sell. but then they get caught up in the mammalians plot and fight alongside new agent 3

i would honestly not be that surprised if deep cut actually are in the story mode and have something to do with the overall story. but i dont think they will be villains, since they are already the news reporters and story mode doesnt really change anything after you finish it(unless its adding the zapfish back on the tower or something). buuuut.. the idea of them being minor antagonists and then helping new 3 later on is a really interesting idea, and id really like to see that

A few things.
1: There is a scene where these fish creatures fly through the sky. They seem like either eels or Goldies from Salmon Run, but they are probably eels considering this... They are yellow with purple inside their mouths and fried bits on their backs JUST LIKE FRYE. Frye is supposed to be an eel tamer, so I imagine that she can control these creatures.
2: As some people have mentioned, Deep Cut seem like the kind of creatures to have come from the Deep Sea Metro. But what's kinda interesting is that Shiver would have to have left Octarian society when she was around 11-17 years old (when we assume her Splatoon 3 age to be 18-25).
3: Now this one is VERY interesting... but so far only the Japanese fanbase has noticed this, not the Western one.
*Shiver and Frye look like crossbreds between Octolings and Inklings.*
If you count the amount of tentacles each of them have, Shiver has 10 like a squid while Frye has 8 like an octopus. (You need to count Frye's eyelashes as tentacles) Upon that, Frye has bioluminescent fingertips, which we have only seen on Marina, the octoling.
And this is ignoring other genetic anomalies that Shiver and Frye have.
Shiver:
- No black markings underneath her eye.
- A skin-colored mouth instead of an indigo one.
- Multiple tentacles that converge into one.
- A crooked beak (teeth).
Frye:
- No suction cups on her hair AT ALL.
- Extremely unusual ear shape.
- Fangs. (overbite technically)
And of course, both of them have triangle eyebrows.
While inktolings is the most common theory, there have been many suggestions that Shiver and Frye are actually cuttlefish, especially since Frye has a lot of traits that resemble certain species of cuttlefish.
love this crossbreed theory so much! i did notice shiver's weird fang placement but thought nothing of it until this comment. also didnt notice they dont even have eye markings! this splatoon's idols are just so unique and charming. i wonder if we'll be able to somehow see shiver and frye's ink/octoling form and see if theirs is also unique. also i want to see big man plop on the floor and swim on top of ink, since hes like a perfect surfing board lol

I think that deep cut accidentally got into Alterna while looting, running into new 3, and starting a conflict thinking new 3 was another scavenger stealing the loot from the new place they’re in. And being minor villains and accidentally helping the main bad like you said!
Sort of like team rocket from the Pokémon anime!

Maybe they will be a bit like Knuckles in some of the Sonic games? They are not bad or evil, but they get tricked by the actual villian into thinking that New Agent 3 and the New Squidbeak Splatoon are the villians.

I remember hearing someone say they think that deep cut will be accidental antagonist, like they don’t mean to do any harm but they end up messing things up, I think that’s pretty cool

I have a theory. In the spanish version (and I think in japanese and/or others) they're called the surimi clan. So I think they are a part of some kind of ancient japanese-like organization of Alterna. And consider the Splatlands their ancestors territory and want something or blah blah...
Finally someone has a brain and realizes they’re in the story mode.
Great video! I personally don't think Deep Cut is evil, but I can definitely see them being a conflict or obstacle that we have to deal with. Even if they are villains to some extent, it won't change how much I love them already ahaha. Anyways, I'm pretty sure Deep Cut is going to be contributing somewhat in the Single Player Mode, but we'll see when Splat 3 comes out.
Also out of curiosity, do you know what Splatfest team you are thinking of choosing?

I didn't thought anything about that, I really thought that was promotional material. But you are right and those scenes are from the campaing; Oh by the way, I am commenting after splatoon 3 release so, yeah. Also WOW, you really nailed so many points here; really nice video.
I think we should be thinking more on people thinking their own way, rather than just saying "good guys VS bad guys"; That mentallity just makes boring stories to be told.

In the trailer for the story we can see some gigantic yellow eels and since Frye is obiously asosiated with eels it wouldn't be surprising if it was hers, and maybe they attack new agent 3. Maybe Deep Cut starts as antagonistic group with their own agenda in the octo valley but at the end help you.

Here's a question were are Agents 4 and 8 we still haven't seen them yet and its slowly making me a bit concerned that something bad happened to them

I don't know if it's true but I heard from a spanish youtuber that played the story mode that there were going to be new agents, idk if he referred to (New) Agent 3, Deep Cut, or perhaps other new characters
If they are agents i dont see big man as a agent as much as i like him i see him as a assistant or a recon guy

It actually isn't confirmed that Pearl and Marina agents. I don't personally think so, but Deep Cut could be Agents 5, 6 and 7. That would be a pretty good way of rounding the Agents out so we have Agents 1-8!
