--- INFO
"God Only Knows" is a song by American rock band The Beach Boys. It is the eighth track on the group's 11th studio album, Pet Sounds (1966), and one of their most widely recognized songs. "God Only Knows" was composed and produced by Brian Wilson with lyrics by Tony Asher and lead vocal by Carl Wilson.
The song broke new ground in many ways. It was one of the first commercial songs to use the word 'God' in its title. As producer, Brian Wilson used many unorthodox instruments, including the French horns that are heard in the song's famous introduction.
In the video game BioShock Infinite, set in 1912, a time rift leads a musician to plagiarize the song more than fifty years before it was written. During a fair at the beginning of the game, the song is performed by a barbershop quartet called the Bee Sharps, and later over the end credits.

--- LYRICS
I may not always love you
But long as there are stars above you
You never need to doubt it
I'll make you so sure about it
God only knows what I'd be without you
If you should ever leave me
Though life would still go on believe me
The world could show nothing to me
So what good would living do me
God only knows what I'd be without you
I never played the game, no. I just got a lot of requests for this tune. :)
I stopped playing video games at the Super Nintendo era. I use to be a Super Mario Kart / Tetris / Street Fighter 2 fan. Even competed in national championships. :)
That's incredible! Being good at games some kind of talent too. Renaissance man!
OMG, I actually stood there watching the full song in game!
Same.
lol same everytime i replay it lol
yep me too, watched it over 10 times haha
i did too i love bioshock ive beat all of them this song is so good
Me too!
I just recently went into barbershop type music, boy did I make the right decision.
You guys are brilliant. The rythm amd harmony, perfect.
Keep on singing guys, I love it.
When I played Bioshock Infinite and you were first exploding the city and the guys floated down on the flying thing, I stopped and stared and listened to the whole thing, it was totally beautiful and I was so caught up in the moment. SO BEAUTIFUL
"He's Zachary Comstock"
"He's Booker DeWitt"
"No... I'm both"
toalazlo6 Peter Jackson's version: "He's Zachary Comstock" "He's Booker DeWitt" "No... I am fire, I. Am. Death." *Cut to a cliffhanger for part 3.*

"No, I am autism."
No... I'm bipolar.

Thank you for the high praise, delighted you enjoyed our cover.
Our song is available for download on BandCamp, it's a great way to encourage independent artists and make sure they're properly fed spaghetti.
Thanks! Yes, I'm working on blending better and particularly on my "oo", which tend to be a little deep relatively. Glad you spotted my effort. :)
When I first heard "you never NEED TO DOUBT IT" it felt like being punched in the chest! I grimaced, looking like I was having a heart attack! You guys are AMAZING!!
I just can't believe this video... I actually cried at the ending. Probably one of the best arrangements of any song I've heard! Vraiment magnife!
Please keep up the great work, guys!
Oops, magnifique!
Kamelhaj Yeah, I actully cried at the end, too...it's impressive.
Yeah. The people at bio shock did a great job arranging it
Probably not that strange, but I love singing with you guys in these videos. My voice is horrible compared to the wonderful sounds you gentlemen make, but it helps me learn to stay on key without bothering anyone so I can enjoy my own singing too... thanks for that. It's been a long time since I could do that, thank you so much!
CHILLS!! The song with the most perfect harmonies ever and such a great rendition! I'm a tenor (don't laugh) and am hoping to find 3 friends in the other ranges to learn this with me.
I hope you enjoy this video & my other releases. :)

***** oh okay thanks.
I really love this barbershop quartet version of this song a lot. In fact, a couple of buddies of mine made an aca pella group and are doing this song in a talent show!
The bass voice is especially rich in this one! I love it!
I was kinda hoping for something more akin to the bioshock version, but this is still very skillfully done.
I don't think they did the Bishock Infinite version, this is more like the original song
He actually said they tried to merge the Orginal AND the bio shock one in one style.
clefdefa The notes are actually the same notes sung in Bioshock Infinite.
MrHiganiga1 Well dah ? it's the same sing but the arrangement in Bioshock is a little different than this
clefdefa Well dah? Anyone who heard the Bioshock one and this one can clearly tell that it's a little different.
But they did the Bioshock version of God Only Knows.
Thanks Michael. Well it's a lot of work, no mystery. As a multitracker yourself, you can appreciate the time and dedication this nerdy artistry requires. I wish more people did too and supported by buying the songs.
I have just discovered this video due to my investigation into the song from Bioshock Infinite. Julien, this video has almost brought me to tears. I have watched it many times now. You and Sonny together have plucked the very strings of my heart with this rendition. Incredible work. I will be purchasing from you soon.
Omg I just fell in love. The harmony just gave me super chills!
Just beat Bioshock Infinite and I have to say I loved that game and this song! Great job and thanks for the videos!
Either of you can move me to tears while I smile. . . in tandem, you fog up my entire computer screen, and the neighbors begin to complain about the combination of sobs and chortles of pure delight.
Oh that ending... absolutely great!!! Wonderful job, guys!
It's always fun to watch your new videos Julien. :)
As a huge fan of bioshock franchise, this video made me and my heart happy 💖💖
Thank you 🥰🥰
that song goes with the plot so well
just amazing! I have this song in its own playlist and I love it. it's crazy how the bass is singing the tenor too
I guess this is the 50th time I watched this video but I am getting the goosebumps like the first time!
What a beautiful rendition of a beautiful song! My Grandfather, Mom and Sister all sang 4 part harmony. Thanks for reminding me of how pretty the 5th voice can be!
Bioshock infininte is my favorite game this gave me nostalgia
I'm actually doing this for my final vocal recital at my high school.... :D It's going to be an amazing experience! This song was one of my grandfather's favorite songs when we he grew up in the sixties, so I'm doing this song to dedicating this piece to him. I love you Grandpa Michael, I miss you everyday, and I will be proud to sing this song as my final piece in my list of recital music :')
Love your arrangments! Nice to hear some interesting harmonies!!
Thanks! Our song is available for download on BandCamp (see video description for the link). Thanks for your support! :)
Yes! The ending is sublime!
That ending is just gorgeous. Of course the rest of it is too but the end! WOW!!!
Thanks Sarah! All my songs is available for download on BandCamp. :)
The song was written in 1958, so it isn't public domain.
Sheet music when you can find it isn't that expensive (a few dollars), it's the man hours to make these videos (around 20 per video + time transcribing or writing a custom arrangement if you can't find sheet music).
I'll be happy to record this tune if you're willing to sponsor the project. My email is in the video description
Love this! I would love to hear barber shop covers of pop songs.
I played Infinite twice for my platinum run and I always made sure to stop by and listen to the Quartet sing the song.
Love Bioshock. Thank you for this guys. May everything you want in life be granted by the gaming gods.
Thank you for your kind & cool comment. :)
Damn this was such a good video I love your music and have purchased a lot of it! Keep up the good work! :)
bravo! Great tune.
king
Thanks. Sonny and I have done 4 other projects, all of which you'll find on my channel. We've been around for a few years now. :)
Thank you Les! I was afraid the tenor / bass combo would be a bit of a heavy sandwich when singing with a natural tenor like Sonny. So nice you appreciate all these details we had to work with in the making of this project. :)
Great sound! Particularly impressed by Sonny's airy, silky lead.
1:59 That chord
I prefer the diminshed 7th at 2:11
Geoffrey Helveston a major 7
Sonny and I are singing the exact same arrangement as the quartet in Bioshoick Infinite. We made a few slight changes in the dynamics, but the notes are all the same. :)
I just love close harmony. Thank you
Thanks, and kudos to Sonny for laying down a fine lead & bari set of tracks.
I recorded this because of the numerous requests I got fr this song, given its recent rise in popularity because of the video game. I personally didn't really enjoy the interpretation in the video game, I felt it was a little stiff and lacked expressiveness. We modestly tried to keep the feeling of the original Beach Boys tune while sticking to the Bioshock barberhsop arrangement.
I am still coming here to listen cuz this makes me feel happy
Beautiful! Sonny sounds great up on those high notes.
Thanks! Don't forget Sonny, he did a FANTASTIC job on lead & bari with this piece. This guy is gold.
Thank you for your kind words and for considering supporting my work actively. :)
so so smooth
Wow!!!!!!!! Amazing hamonies!!!!! Keep singing
LOL Thanks. Kudos to Sonny for laying down fantastic lead & bari tracks too. :)
Thanks.

You and Sonny really are the best duo... quartet... team! You are excellent at the Bass and he is an amazing Lead. I always look out for more collabs between you two.
Brian Wilson is one of the greatest pop songwriters ever. Definitely a harmonic genius. It is only fitting that "god only knows" be arranged and presented by a barbershop quartet.
I love this song, your cover is great
this was simply amazing!! LOVED it!!
Oooo LOVED the last verse! Really smooooth! Gave me goosebumps! Stunning!
Hahaha, wow, Julien - you two knocked it outta the friggen park. That was - is - incredible. It literally could have been straight out of the game. I see Sonny getting a lot of praise (and he most certainly rocked his parts), I'd also like to give you MAJOR props for your amazing job with tenor and particularly bass! You killed it! That bass sounds like it has some rapid transitions and it sounded absolutely perfect. Teach me your bass. I AM A PADAWAN COMPARED TO YOUR BASS.
Oh my goodness.
Absolutely brilliant. A smoother version of the Infinite.
It's also incredible how deep these lyrics are and how well they fit the Infinite narrative
i'm falling in love with bass voice
Thanks Anette, delighted you enjoyed our video. :)
Beautiful! Love the tight harmony; well done. =)
This is my favorite cover of this version of God Only Knows.
Ack! Oh God, this is too beautiful, just just... I'm crying of beauty!
I don't think you know how much I love you guys right now !!
Those nasal "pa-pa-pas," Sonny! You two made this song your own, but I loved that little shout-out to the Beach Boys.
so there are two of you here, right? Marvelous arrangement!
Yes Karen, myself and I, and Sonny and himself.
I cry every time!
Glad you like it. Our song and many of my other releases are available on my BandCamp page: trudbol.bandcamp.com
You guys ARE fantastic and know how to sound as a whole.
I love singing along with your songs:) great cover guys!
from 1:26 to the end is just so so perfect i love it
Rhythmically impeccable! Hats off.
what an outstanding duo you two are. Well done again
When I heard this song the first time I watched Bioshock Infinite walkthrough on TH-cam, I fell in love with it, too. Thanks Irrational games for show me this wonderful masterpiece.
Love it! About time somebody made their own multitrack cover!
Thanks to the genius, Brian Wilson!
Clap clap clap clap clap!!!!! Awesome duo! Beautifully done, boys :)
Fantastic! I like hearing the vocal styling of the non barbershop songs! Keep up the great work!
I envy your voice...makes me relax
Oh my God Harry Potter commented on my video!!!
Thanks :)
ahahahahah
Thank you for continuing to publish your music....you sing songs I remember by grandparents singing.
Gotta love Julien's vocals on bass. So damn smooth!
I also had dreams about Barbershop Quartets becoming popular again, and this warms my heart
I've got almost 200 hours clocked okay Bioshock Infinite. I've listened to this song EVERY TIME I start a new game.
BIOSHOCK FEELS!!!¡¡¡!!!
Oh my sweet lord Julien, i LOVE you for doing this, this is super amazing :D
If I had the money, you bet I'd support you man, definitely :)
Because I didn't arrange this song, I only have a transcription done by ear. The arranger is Clay Hine.
I really like all of your arrangements! It's a nice mash-up of barbershop and jazz sounds
Thanks Caroline, really appreciate it. :)
