    Just another day at the office. What a beautifully prepared race horse. I won’t get into who is the greatest but I have sure enjoyed watching Flightline this year. I watched some of his workouts the last couple of weeks and he just floated over the ground.

      It’s okay….get into it. I know Flightlines name won’t be on that list because he really hasn’t had much of a career. Let him race about 15 more times so we can call him an actual race horse that had a career….not a lightly raced colt with his races spaced out just perfectly so he doesn’t feel the effects of being a competitive race horse.

    • @6cobrasnake9
      @6cobrasnake9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@penelopelopez8296 He didn’t race as a colt. I guess winning by more than 71 combined lengths in all 6 races doesn’t mean a thing to you. He didn’t break any track records ,still isn’t enough for you to say he is just an ordinary horse. Winning 5 out of 6 races under a gallop at the wire and never feeling the whip whatsoever with no one to challenge him in the stretch drive. No horse came back to challenge him from races past. Flightline is a true Champion that went undefeated. He doesn’t have to prove to the world who he is. For you to say what you said means that you probably never got to see all of his races. Go back and see what he did on his Maiden race and the rest & listen to the track announcers so you’ll understand on what they were saying once he hit the stretch. If you bring up any horse that was better then look at how many races they lost. There is a saying that says EVEN CHAMPIONS LOSE. Unlike, FLIGHTLINE.

      Well, Big Red ran 21 times and on the turf twice plus ran 9 times as a 2 year old before facing the best older horse and turf horses five times before the end of his 3 year old year. Let’s see Flightline run 16 more times and face the best turf horses twice…..let’s see what he looks like after that. They pumped the horse full of roids as a yearling and kept up the routine long enough to get five races out of him before he breaks down. Stud fees is where the real money is. Let’s see what he produces in a few years.

  • @apharoah12
    @apharoah12  ปีที่แล้ว +9

    In my opinion, saying he’s only run 6 races is one of the absolute worst arguments you can make regarding why he’s not the GOAT. Number of races does nothing to determine raw talent. Flightline has the most raw talent we’ve ever seen. Secretariat never faced as tough competition as he did today and won as easily. Times mean nothing, the track at Keeneland has been deep and dead to front runners the last few weeks. Notice he’s the only frontrunner that won on dirt all weekend. People arguing that he ran slower than Authentic forget he just ran 1 59.28 in the Pacific Classic (faster than Secretariat’s Derby). Track conditions change too much for that to be the deciding factor. Meanwhile, he beat one of, if not the toughest, Classic fields ever by the largest margin of victory in the race’s 39 year history. Life Is Good is a generational talent, Flightline sat with him through those quick fractions and ran right by like it was nothing. Came back to the barn and looked as if the race never happened.
    Think what you want about Secretariat, and it’s okay to be a fan of him and not want to claim another horse is better, but arguing his number of races is the reason he’s not the GOAT is not a legitimate argument. He’s 6-for-6 and hasn’t had a horse near him, Secretariat lost 5 times against inferior horses. If you’re going based off longevity to determine the all-time great, it’s not Secretariat nor Man o’ War…the GOAT would be Kelso. But I don’t see anyone arguing for him.

    • @1stdown407
      @1stdown407 ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel Flightline is benefiting from recency bias. Yes he is a very special horse but I still give AP the nod at this point (still think Sec was in a league all his own). Won the Triple crown, ran just as fast as Flightline in the classic at keenland, won in a 20 horse field in the derby, won over an off track in the Preakness. Don’t get me wrong Flightline is incredible, but he only gets raced after long layoffs in ideal conditions against small fields.

      I argue for Kelso. The distances he ran, the weight he carried, between ages 3-8 no less.... There's no comparison. I applaud Flightline for all he's accomplished, and so effortlessly, but he's got a ways to go before he can hold a candle to Kelso (or Man o'War or Secretariat or Citation). untested and remarkably fast final quarter. Mike Smith a jockey who has been racing for decades on the best said he's never seen anything like flightline. And talking figures, not many horses have ever ran each 1/4 faster than the one before. And not many horses have won races by 31 lengths.

    I watched over 15 different reruns of this race, I must congratulate you on the BEST production for us fans, it was perfect, just as Flightline was; he didn’t disappoint. As for all of you naysayers out there saying this horse needs to prove himself with more races, he’ll shame y’all because he’s a champion and he can accomplish a lot more if given the opportunity. Do not sell him short. The racing world is changing from the era of Seattle Slew, Man O’War, Spectacular Bid, Secretariat and all the other legends we still honor. Back then they bred horses to race them, now they race horses to breed them. An unfortunate reality! Let’s hope Flightline’s ownership group will decide to let him compete as a 5 year old so he can prove to everyone questioning, that he is indeed a legend in the history of thoroughbred horse racing.

There is NO SHAME in holding high standards. If he does do it, which I doubt he will, fine. We thought the same of Arrogate, who accomplished much greater feats than Lifeline, like the fastest time for a mile and a quarter ever in the Travers Stakes run on the venerable Saratoga racetrack, then won the Breeder's Cup Classic over the previous winner California Chrome, won the Pegasus World Cup and the Dubai World Cup despite breaking from the gate slowly and having to beat a great horse named Gun Runner. He won almost $17 and a half million on the track. Yet because he did not maintain this form to the end he has been dismissed by most from the pantheon list of one of the "Greatest of All Time." However, the rush to declare him as good as Secretariat seems a little manufactured to me given his all too brief career. He seems on par with Arrogate-whose Dubai World Cup race was compared to Man o'War. I don't believe that Flightline broke or set any stakes or track records, and his 121 Beyer in the Classic is no where close to the 139 assigned to Secretariat's Belmont. Then compare his on track times. No horse can run Track and World Records each time he ran.
      Secretariat was a monster size of a horse. He destroyed all comers. Even his stablemate Riva Ridge. He ran just as fast on dirt as on Turf.
      Only jockey error and something wrong physical got him beat. Even his trainer said. That he shouldn't had never been beaten.

    From what i saw of This horse today, he is special, but not Secretariat special.
    That is not to say he can’t be special, but lets not compare him to the greatest of all time just yet.
    I am not knocking this horse at all, but it’s not a fair comparison to say like some are saying that he is “ as” good or better than the greatest horse… ever
    This horse has more racing to do before he should be compared to the “ GREATEST “ of all time.

    CONGRATULATIONS FLIGHT LINE AND COMPANY. Well I'm certainly glad that they said he's one of the greatest and not the greatest. Sorry folks but it shouldn't be said that Flight Line is as good or the best since Secretatiat. The Breeders Cup first ran in 1984 and Secretariat was long retired by then so there's nothing to compare there. The only comparison that can be made between the two is even dominance over the fields that ran against. If Flight Line did what Secretariat did in the Triple Crown you can then respectively say Flight line is as good as Big Red. Just because he dominated the field in all of his six races just as Secretariat did at Belmont winning by 31 lengths and nailing down the track record. He also holds the track record at Church Hill Downs during his triple crown quest.
    In 2020 Authentic won the Classic at the same track same conditions with a time of 1:59.60... And in 2015 American Pharoah ran at the same track same conditions with a time of 2:00.07 the same time as Flight Line and no comparison to Secretatiat was made for either of horse. It's pretty obvious that the powers that be in horse racing are over sensationalizing this because horse racing is hurting, and they're trying to fabricate a phenom. Flight Line is truly a great horse but not to be mentioned in the same sentence as Secretariat.

    • @apharoah12
      @apharoah12  ปีที่แล้ว

      I hate to say it because I love Pharoah, but Pharoah and Authentic’s classics did not have the field quality of what Flightline beat today. You can’t compare track conditions year after year. I talked to both Johnny V and Mike Smith a few days before the race and they mentioned how the track had been dead and deep for front runners at the end of the meeting, and no front runners were winning on the dirt this weekend except Flightline. Flightline won by the largest margin of victory in BC Classic’s 39 year history without being asked with the crop and against the toughest field the Classic has ever seen. Secretariat never beat the quality of horses Flightline did today. Unfortunately we’ll never know, but if we had a match race between the two my money would be on Flightline without any hesitation.

    This is a case of hyperbole. We all want to believe events are great and amazing. However, Flightline has not had the quantity or quality of successes or the competition sufficient to make a valid claim that he is "One of the Greatest of All Time." He will have to do a lot more than he has in his six races - races which are good but not anywhere near the more numerous and more significant accomplishments of horses like Man O War, Citation, Native Dancer, Secretariat, Seattle Slew, Affirmed, Spectacular Bid or even Ghost Zapper, California Chrome, American Pharoah, Tiznow, Zenyatta, Gun Runner or Arrogate. He has never run a mile and a half. He has never run against another great horse. He has never traveled abroad to face other outstanding horses on their own turf. He has set no world records. Every one of these achievements are not essential for giving him accolades but let's stop handing over the title of "One of the Greatest of All Time" when he did not even run the BCC as fast as the last two winners did - Authentic (2020) or Knicks Go (2021).
    If the owners want to prove he's so great he must compete more and travel farther afield.

      @@6cobrasnake9 - I see you are the one who doesn't have a clue with regard to
      what happened to Ruffian, or to Sham in the Belmont. Two close friends of mine
      were New York jockeys named Michael Venezia and Ben Feliciano. They both
      confirmed that when fastest run races was all the rage years ago, they would in
      special instances, such as the match race Ruffian ran in, and the Belmont Stakes
      that Secretariat ran in, 'pack down' the track, making it like hard concrete, for this
      would produce record shattering times. Ruffian broke down on such as surface,
      but Penny Tweedy who had a lot of clout, especially since having a horse who won
      the Ky. Derby & Preakness, and she was obsessed with speed, having accused
      Pimlico as not having properly timed Secretariat's Preakness win, which had her
      make sure the track was lightning fast since she felt Secretariat had thick legs and
      could handle such a track. Meanwhile, Sham wound up 'breaking down' in the race
      and of course Secretariat would win by an astronomical amount of lengths against
      the remaining inferior competition. Trainer John Campo, who had a participant in
      the race, whom he knew didn't belong in it, gave way to intense pressure to enter his
      horse to make it look like a truly competitive race when only Secretariat & Sham
      belonged in it. Sham was a much slimmer horse than Secretariat and the 'concrete ' track resulted in his breaking down. His connections were so outraged that The
      Racing Commission, not wanting this 'track packing' to run wild in the media, stopped allowing this dangerous 'track packing' to continue. That is why Ruffian and
      Sham broke down. Trainer Howard Jergens was so outraged by what Penny Tweedy
      concocted and told Michael Venezia and others that he would 'personally' prove that
      Secretariat was overrated. He ran two of his horses against him. One was a six year
      old '$15,000' claimer named Onion, who had lost 39 of 54 races, and Prove Out, a 4
      year old who was beaten 30 out of 39 races. After defeating Secretariat convincingly with both horses, he was asked why he had the nerve to run these mediocre horses against 'The Great Secretariat' and he simply said, 'Because I believed he was overrated and I wanted to prove it !' I think you'll agree he proved his point. The odds on a huge, super developed, strong horse like Zenyatta likely breaking down would have been beyond remote & she could have gone down as the
      greatest of all time had she continued racing for a few more years.

The courage and talent this horse possesses is truly remarkable and the training job John Saddler and and his crew put together may never be matched. I have not one knock on this remarkable colt other than needing to see what he could do at 5. I can understand the decision to retire him as his sire will need him to take over in a few years as a should be historic sire. I suspect he will possibly surpass Tapit as an outstanding sire. I have been a student of the game since Secretariat proved he was the perfect thoroughbred to ever race. After 45 years of studying and being in awe of these magnificent creatures ( not really betting on them much) but just researching to the beginning and development of the breed, I have came to the conclusion that we will never see a thoroughbred racehorse like Secretariat there are some that keep you hoping. I have only seen clips of Man o war, which were unbelievable. I could name at least 25 horses male and female that are much more accomplished than Flight Line. Please understand I am in no way taking anything away from this remarkable horse ( as if I could or would want to) but there are so many things that have to be accomplished in what it really takes to be considered among the top30 race horses of the past 100 years. And I am talking about dirt racers . It gets much deeper when you bring up turf. Just remember 6 starts has never been in the conversation with being in the same class as the top 50. I could name 30 quickly that are far above Flight Line but I shouldn’t bore you with the facts. Flight Line is a truly remarkable animal and I pray his health will hold for a long time and look forward to seeing his babies

    I'm sorry. Big Red danced every dance. As a Horse of Year 2 year old and 3 year old.
    He beat his Handicap Champion stablemate at World Record time at 9 furloughs .
    In that same race he beat other Champions and got revenge on the horse that beat him on a Jockey error.
    In the Triple Crown races, he broke long standing track records. And he beat Sham 3 times after the Wood race, that proved. He ran 3rd on a throat problem.. His $6.06 Million Dollars backers got his first loss . Then , they got Greatness for the rest of the year. Save for the jockey error in the Whitney and Woodward stake races.
    I Already learned that it takes about 26 lifetime races to watch.. Before I declare any horse the greatest of all time .
    Flightline will be retired to Stud . As a Champion, but not as the Greatest of all time, that Big Red was for 2 full seasons of racing.
    I, for one . Was a great athlete for my size in just about every sport I tried. Not on one sport like Michael Jordan or any other Champion.
    Just get real EVERYONE. Nowadays, the Media Hype is everything. Run in 6 races and be declared as the best there ever was. Prove it in at least 10 more races on 10 more races tracks and on the turf like Big Red.

    Flightline isn't one of the all time greats at horse racing just because he won the 2o22 Beeeders Cup Classic with a time of 2:00.05. Just two years ago Bob Baffert's horse Authentic, won the Breeders Cup Classic with a time of 1:59.60. He isn't considered one of the all time greats.
    Spectacular Bid, who I saw run, has the world record at 1 1/4 mile with a time 1:57.80. Time wise, using my five horse length per second handicapping technique I would say that Spectacular Bid would have beaten Flightline by slightly over ten lengths. Spectacular Bids record was 26 wins, 2 second place finishes, and 1 third place finish. That's what I call greatness. Longevity at winning counts.
    Flighline is a good horse not a great horse.

      Your argument is very weak. The weather, the condition of the track... conditions change from day to day and race to race. Really, the only thing that matters is how a horse beats his opponents on that day... and on EVERY day that Flightline raced he OBLITERATED his competition, and in this last one his competition was a very impressive field. "Flighline is a good horse not a great horse" is just silly.

      @@rexgoodheart3471 duration matters in horse racing, 6 races just isn’t enough to be an all time great. In my opinion you need at least 10-15 races to be in that category. 6 races against small fields and always off a long layoff while on good tracks screams very good, but not great. The reason FL won by so much all the time is because the horses were week, accept for the BBC, and he got to rest for months in between races!
