Well this doesnt happen, it happens only when there is excessive slipage in the wedges, or piston calibration goes wrong, in that case the elongation is called as failed one and we need to calibrate the piston again. Guidelines mentioned in the drawing has to be followed strictly.

Usually it does not collapse, since quality is first assured before fixing the cone. But going on a safe side is a good deal.
