Oh my, I just heard this sad news. I saw Miley and Melanie's backyard performance several years ago and was so thrilled with it that I went back and found all the Melanie songs I grew up with and loved so much. I'm truly sorry to hear that Melanie passed. She brought such joy to so many of us. She had a beautiful voice, was an amazing songwriter, and seemed to almost glow with a goodness that I always looked up to as the true hippie chick. Rest in peace Melanie. Fifty-two years ago, on a Friday night during a light rainfall, I had what I can only describe as a religious experience during Melanie's performance at the Woodstock Festival. I was fifteen and not on any drugs. I'm sure that I was not the only one. A half-a-million people there and you could hear a pin drop that night.There was no rowdiness or people screaming during performances. .Melanie, if you ever come across this: Thank You.
As people and voices get older, things change. What a wonderful surprise to hear that Melanie's voice has actually improved with age. The two of them sound so good together!

Such a beautiful, talented artist and so very happy to see her still performing and enjoying herself with all her soul and talent. This is what life is all about! My uncle was born in 54 and was placed in a mental facility at age 12 by my grandma. He was given electro shock treatment to "fix" his brain for being gay. He was a zombie for weeks after that... My grandma never forgave herself for sending him there. My uncle beat the odds and ended up being very successful, incredibly intelligent, and one of my heroes. He just passed away this year and this song reminds me of him, hank you for this song

My dad, who was a multi-instrumentalist and a huge promoter of female artists, introduced my siblings and I to Melanie, when we were little kids (late 60s). We LOVE YOU MELANIE. Miley, you are a gem too. I love that you're so willing to explore different avenues of music, and, despite a lot of the hate that flows in your direction, you really are talented.
So my memory of your song is my Ma playing this in our car and we sang to it . I was a child. Lois dropped out of high school to model for Eileen Ford at 15 , was all round Buddha (not even knowing what a Buddha was) . She died at 45 from breast cancer . My uncle was born in 54 and was placed in a mental facility at age 12 by my grandma. He was given electro shock treatment to "fix" his brain for being gay. He was a zombie for weeks after that... My grandma never forgave herself for sending him there. My uncle beat the odds and ended up being very successful, incredibly intelligent, and one of my heroes. He just passed away this year and this song reminds me of him, hank you for this song

My dad, who was a multi-instrumentalist and a huge promoter of female artists, introduced my siblings and I to Melanie, when we were little kids (late 60s). We LOVE YOU MELANIE. Miley, you are a gem too. I love that you're so willing to explore different avenues of music, and, despite a lot of the hate that flows in your direction, you really are talented.

So my memory of your song is my Ma playing this in our car and we sang to it . I was a child. Lois dropped out of high school to model for Eileen Ford at 15 , was all round Buddha (not even knowing what a Buddha was) . She died at 45 from breast cancer . This song (for me) is for all the lights among us that shine and burn and must say farewell . Thank you for writing this song that Lois and I used to sing in the car (beat up Chevy Impala mind you )

Melanie was just as cute there as she was over 50 years ago. I was in college back then, and I bought her song book called "Melanie's Good Book." It still sits on my bookshelf today, as I just looked at it. "Brand New Key" was one of my favorites.
