Experimenting for Better Understanding Auto Focusing on Panasonic FZ2000

  • This is a kind experimental instruction video about the various autofocusing possibilities on the Panasonic FZ2000. I intentionally made it handheld to test the image stabilization. Because of the contrast detect AF system. definitely the FZ just like any CDAF cameras may hunt here and there, and establishing the focus at the end of the transition very often micro-adjustment is visible. This looks like a micro-wiggle here and there. However, in a number of situations the transition is acceptably smooth even for professional purposes. So, you should elaborate your focusing and shooting technique in a way that either hunting couldn't/shouldn't happen at all; or, if it happens, it could be easily edited out with an insert from a B roll or any other way.
At 12:27 I start explaining using AF-Lock with Continuous AF.

Many thanks sir for showing in so detailed manner, also the timely voice prompt for 'clicked', 'clicked and hold' were extremely beneficial!

Please, tell me what model of cage are you using with your Panasonic FZ2000?

Thanks for the video. It's very helpful. I was looking for this and I found it today. God bless you. Do you still recommend this camera in 2021?

Is this captured HDMI-out or is there also a way to activate the monitor overlay for in-camera video recording? I couldn't find anything in the manual or menus, but if it was limited to HDMI-out, that would be kind of a stupid limitation for the user and for Panasonic.

The control icons overlay was HDMI output only.

You have a lot of noise in shadows. I think its because of modification of Highlight/Shadow curve and using iDynamic. GH4 shooters generally adviced not to use these settings. Try turning them off.

I'll do it immediately, I was waiting for someone to mention it. Still, I adjusted the curve to keep the shadows at 0, but I set -2 for Highlights to preserve sky, if it works at all on a 1" camera like this. Thank you.

Hi, is this camera better than other Camcorders of lower price? Trying to decide if to go for a camcorder or a camera again... since they say that fz2500 isn´t great for photography

Have you tried the autofocus with high-paced subjects like in sports? thanks

The fz2500 is absolutely better and more versatile than any camcorders in my opinion: it has 1" sensor, built-in ND filters. Only the AX100 or X70 are real competitors but they are more expensive. The fz2500 is great for (daylight) photography, too, but, of course, a Sony A5100/6000/6300/6500 are much better sure.

AF is terribly weak point on all Panasonic cameras for video. But, with a wide angle it is fine applying hyperfocal-like focusing techniques.

How did you manage to record image from the display, with settings and all?

I used an Atomos Ninja 2 HDMI external recorder.
