Got in a car crash and am stuck in a ditch. This interview is helping pass the time while I wait for a local farmer to bring around his tractor to help. Thanks Ben and John for making this suck less
I just beat the game last night. What a joy it was. From start to finish I had a blast. The music was great, the story was good and genuinely funny. The cast of characters were all interesting and it made me feel like a rock star (even though I missed the beat constantly lol). Great interview Ben.
Thanks so much for orchestrating and leading this interview, Ben. Absolutely some of my favorite content on MinnMax, and one of the (many) reasons to keep on coming back to see more. I beat the game over the weekend and it truly was a special experience... absolutely warrants some unapologetic optimism about the gaming industry. Cheers and looking forward to the Dead Space deepest dive!
@@minnmax Yes! I saw your tweet about it actually and decided to plan on watching after the first 6 chapters... it is my first time playing any Dead Space game! Totally slipped by me during the 360 era, as I was a bit too spooked by it at the time
Wow, this game is 100% what no straight roads should have been, and I’m glad this guy was part of the team that brought us Hi Fi Rush. Thank you for this interview!
Hi-Fi Rush has been dominating my game time since Thursday even with Dead Space releasing. Another great interview Ben. That Trent Reznor bit from John is strangely beautiful.
This is the best Hi-Fi Rush Interview HANDS-DOWN (to this day) and for me one of the best gaming-interviews ever. Also, with this game and the amount of Involvement John Johanas had in it he has now (through one single game) been elevated to the all-time great Gaming-Visionaries for me personally (I personally would even put him at the level of Kojima FOR ME PERSONALLY as Hi-Fi Rush is in my top5 games of all time)
Superb way to round off January with these 2 awesome interviews, Ben. I'm loving the 2023 output from MinnMax so far (not that I didn't love the years prior!).
John feels overwhelmed? DUDE, you just dropped potential game of the year! We have Dead Space Remake, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Spider-Man 2 and a ton of great looking AAA games coming this year, yet your title is capable of competing with this massive releases easily, you should be extremly proud of yourself and whole team, not "overwhelmed"!
It's rare for games anymore to get me to play through it and immediately replay it. I loved this damn game. Played it on gamepass and immediately bought it and then replayed it.
My biggest "problem" with the writing is how few dialogue interactions we have between team members other than Chai. Its a natural consequence since it's a game with Chai as the primary playable character. It's most natural and fluid to talk in the moment, which is whatever Chai's doing. So most to all conversations revolve around him. Furthemore, menu dialogue you play as Chai walking around, so conversations are all with... Chai. I absolutely loved em all, but I also wanted to see more like CNMN's personality test with peppermint, or Korsica offering genuine praise to Peppermint. I can't recall any moments between korsica and macaron, or strangely CNMN and macaron. Would've loved to see more of the bands dynamic, but there's only so much you can do when you're the playable protagonist in an 11 hour game. The writing is fine. I just wanted more. Sequel or Animated series please.
I'm old school and I love me a good beat em up game. This does the genre very proud, sick combos and all the possible upgrades will make you not want to put it down
PLEASE, a TV show with the same 3D, even 2D style would be the best thing ever. The characters, the world, it all has so much potential, it would make me so damn happy hahaha
Even from the initial trailer I thought “this could be something supergiant made”. It just seemed to have that level of extreme polish. The game deserves all the praise
For references in this fiist level there's a pipe with a raising top which really reminded me of Oil Ocean from Sonic 2. What a game. Thank you. I thought Scott Pilgrim and Baby Driver would be inspirations. Interesting that it was Shaun of the Dead.
I'm glad you asked cuz of seinfeld and vandaley i watched the show in its entirety for the first time recently and got such a belly laugh when looking reviews for this game up and saw "VANDALEY"
Johanas being responsible for the story DLC of the Evil within franchise makes so much sense. Given that those stories were actually the best parts of the Evil within series. EDIT: hopefully Johanas saved enough ideas for a sequel or even a trilogy of games.
I started working on this same exact concept for a game I am building. Rhythm melee to the beat of rock music. Its a super cool and fun concept. I got the idea from Bullets Per Minute.
10:30. That happened to me on the first boss. Couldn’t land the qte to the beat on the last health bar. But beat him and tried so much eventually it just killed the boss from a regular attack.
I think the game is gorgeous, but the "on 2's" limited animation framerate effect mentioned at 23:30 is uncomfortable for me to look at it, almost like nausea. I also personally don't think it really adds much towards making CGI "look 2d" and just sort of makes things look choppy (as opposed to adding 2d linework overlays and smears over the CGI, which helps a lot), but if games DO use that effect, I really wish they would include an option to disable it and just have full on-1's in between too as an accessibility option.
If I had to guess, they might be calling him JoJo in reference to JJBA. Not often you have someone who actually has 'Jo' at the start of their first and last name.
RE: getting delisted - The game already has a streamer mode that removes the licensed music, so once those licenses run out, I assume it can just switch to the in-house music already being used by that mode
Thank you so much for this interview. It moves my needle, Ben! I loved the game and I already know it's going to be one of my top games of the year. Hearing about it's creation just gives me a deeper appreciation for it and being a huge fan of NIN I can't express how exciting it is to know how it helped inspire the game. I enjoyed every moment and absolutely lost it at the last boss. Thank you John Johanas for making a game seemingly exclusively and specifically for me.
I love that he called you out (and everyone else) on the "so what's next" question. Obviously they can't announce anything and they want you to play the CURRENT game.

Only Ben and MinnMax could deliver an interview of this caliber. Bravo!
Well hey, we appreciate that!

Whaaaat?! Well.. we hope you're safe and we're happy to help any way we can.
@@minnmax Cattle rancher pulled me out with his tractor. Thank God for John Deere!
One of the Wildest comments I've ever seen
That story about how John was inspired by Trent Reznor’s purposeful instrumentals and years later the seed paid off as part of this game was touching.
This game is one of the best games I’ve played in a while
10/10
Can’t wait for a sequel
Love these interviews, no one does it better than MinnMax
Thanks Alex, tell a friend!

Amazing interview! John Johanas is definitely on my radar now and Tango Gameworks is increasingly becoming a beloved developer of mine
Woo, love these interviews! So great to see the success for John and Tango with this. Excited for the future of the studio
I'm only 20 minutes in but this interview has been fantastic, keep doing these

Yes 🙌🏽 this game felt so nostalgic but new at the same time
Does it though!?!? 🤑
Amazing game! I can easily see Hi-Fi Rush adapted as an anime by the team at Studio Trigger. Great interview as always.

My favorite moment of the game was when “Invaders Must Die” started banging in the background. Mind blowing moment for a fan of the song!
Really impressed you got this interview, and thank you so much Ben (& John!)
Good stuff. Game came out of nowhere so it'll be nice to learn anything about it.
A game know one knew about a week ago, has skyrocketed to one of my favorites ever! Great job!
Excellent interview. Excellent game. So happy for you guys, this is exactly the type of AAA the industry needed
Thank you for making this game I didn't know I needed it but it reminds me why I enjoy gaming so much!
Literally the best video game content on the internet. Thank you, Ben for always getting these interviews!
Thanks, Avery! Tell a friend!
Congratulations to the dev team and minnmax for the interview. Been a while since I'm interested in a Microsoft published game.
What a great interview. And an amazing game. Subscribed

I quite honestly can't put Hi-Fi Rush down. It's an addiction of joy in videogame form and one of the best shadow drops ever.
Great interview. Easiest subscribe I've ever clicked.
Hell yeah, thanks Brandon!
Thanks for the cool interview. Love hearing stories about the process of shadowdropping and surprise hits. Game's great!

I agree with the last part but had downvote for supergiant but yeah this game deserves all the praise
I've been gaming for a Lonng time...This might be one of the best and most polished games I've ever played.
We agree.
Well done John. The game is exceedingly good. Really looking forward to your and team's next game.
It is a great interview Ben. Thanks!
Holy shit, from The Evil Within to this? What a god
This will go down as one of my favorite games of all-time and definitely my favorite game this year 🔥
So interesting, Gj MinnMax
Thanks for watching.
MinnMax always has the best interviews!
Any help sharing online is appreciated!
What an absolute STUNNER of a game. Absolutely a GOTY contender for me
Truly one of the rare games that makes me wish I had a Xbox. Great interview
This is such good stuff Hanson! Really great questions.
Amazing interview! I loved the game, playing it for the second time now! Excited to see more in the future, you rock Jojo!

I've heard this a lot
I think it's like motion sickness, some people have it, for others it looks perfectly fine
If I had to guess, they might be calling him JoJo in reference to JJBA.
Not often you have someone who actually has 'Jo' at the start of their first and last name.

What a great interview

Phenomenal game.
Great interview
the game director is a Jojo itself. JOhn JOhanas
Amazing game, can’t wait to watch this!
This game is proof that wishes can come true
That was fantastic
Am I nuts!? Or was this a great interview!
Awesome
Really great game. DLC or sequel please. It's become one of my favorite games of all time.
hack and slash games are officially an instrument now btw
Ben looking for an interview with this games director
Whatever they do next, I just hope they take their time to do the next thing instead of rushing it.
watching this, then hearing shinji left hope hes ok
I guess I'm subbing to Game Pass for another month.
oh yeah😎
That happened quickly
My man really got a JoJo name
😊👍
Pitch a Xenogears Remake to SE. I know probably a pipe dream but I can hope.
I certainly wouldn't trust SE to make one, (good one)
John Johanas is aka JoJo? Coincidence? I think not... Do I smell a road roller somewhere?
The next JoJo
What a get!
Great interview!
