Hey bookworms! I know it'll come up, but I didn't include You Like it Darker by Stephen King since it is a short story collection and this was about novels. Don't worry; Sai King will get his time in the spotlight in 2024.

How is Mike's approval of Sun Eater not enough? It is the push for me to read Sun-Eater! (Thank you for that!) Still so pleased you loved The Bound and the Broken that much. I totally agree with what you said. So many people told readers to be patient with The Wheel of Time, to push through the first book and the 4 big slog books! But for The Bound and the Broken and other series, sometimes it's one book a miss and goodbye. Nothing wrong with that, but some series do require 2 books to turn into something incredible! :)

Oathbringer was the only one I thought was a step down from the other books for me but it was still amazing. I agree with the comment about wanting him to just focus on Stormlight. I like his other stuff but Stormlight is clearly a step up in quality for me. Of Empires and Dust is also a must read. Of War and Ruin such an incredible book that left me floored. Also, One Piece has been absolutely incredible in the most recent arc and I cannot wait to see what Oda has in store for next year.

This one is easy for me, even when i didn't like TRoW that much, my most anticipated book is Stormligth 5, i want a nice not-really-an-ending for my Stormlight story (not planning on read the era 2)
And my second one is probably Mercy of the Gods.
The thing is none of those two book will probably get published in 2024 in my country, 2025 is more likely.

I need to get on Suneater, and Red Rising. Somehow those have passed me by. I DNFd book 4 of Stormlight. I found the stuff in the underworld or whatever it was called really tedious. Shame. I look forward to the James Corey book too. Cheers Mike. 👍

    Some of mine:
    - Mercy of the Gods - JSA Corey (the newest pitch is "The Book of Daniel, retold in a very far future Frank Herbert/U. K. LeGuin kind of universe, with an incredibly advanced alien race).
    - You Like It Darker (¯\_(ツ)_/¯) and whatever else King will surprise us with before 2024 is over.
    _ Empire of the Damned
    - The final book in Shauna Lawless's Gael Song (probable) trilogy.
    - Adrian Tchaikovsky's Alien Clay, a stand alone space opera about a a dissident xeno-biologist sent to a prison planet where he discovers remnants of an ancient alien civilization.
    - Adrian Tchaikovsky's Service Model, about a kind of C3PO character lost in a post apocalyptic Mad Max style world. I guess it will be humorous, as Adrian mentioned he still chuckles here and there as he revises the last draft.
    - Tentatively, Adrian Tchaikovsky's third Tyrant Philosophers book, expected in late 2024. I'd definitely recommend you that one Mike. It's a series of interconnected yet stand alone novels in the same universe. Early industrial fantasy. City of Last Chances was the first, and one of my favourite reads of 2023, and the second novels is coming out this December.
    - Alastair Reynolds' Machine Vendetta, the final book in his Prefect Dreyfuss space opera series.
    - SF writer Nick Harkaway's new George Smiley novel, filling up a big gap in the timeline of Smiley's career. Harkaway is John LeCarré's son. I'm very excited for it as I love Harkaway's work, though I'm a bit afraid too, the whole Brian Herbert syndrome and all that.
I haven't checked a lot from releases from the second half of 2024 yet. I'm starting to write down my reading schedule for next year and there are a lot of books I'm just as excited about as the ones above, but they're older releases (some quite recent though, like the new Follet).

I don't think it will be out next year but I don't see people talk about Daniel Abrahams Kithamar trilogy. One half of S.A. Corey has in the first two books written some amazing fantasy in my opinion. In fact I like both books more than any of the 6 The Expanse books I have read. Age of Ash (the first in the trilogy) is in my top 5 reads of the year.

I'm a horror guy and a Constant Reader, so King's new collection is at the top of the list. I'd love to get Joe Hill's next novel in 2024, but it sounds like 2025 for that one. And, once again, I'll be the annoying Ronald Malfi fan, but his next book Small Town Horror comes out in May 2024. Very excited for that one.

I think you're confused. Stormlight Archives are just one series of several in the Cosmere. Mistborn, Elantris, Warbreaker, etc. They're all Cosmere

    • @mikesbookreviews

I think you’re confused if you think I don’t know that. I was referring to the series like Skyward, Rithmatist, Steelheart, etc when I spoke of non-Cosmere material. I said I was being selfish in that I’d rather he dumps everything else, Cosmere included, to finish writing Stormlight.

I loved Of Blood and Fire. It really felt like Malice in a good way. Like he did Malice with a nice sprinkle of dragons and his own thing very very well. I really enjoyed The Fall - which I definitely recommend reading The Fall AFTER OF Blood and Fire, and you can see that he has really put so so much into building this world. Tomorrow I start Of Darkness and Light- and I am very excited for it.
PS Ryan if you are out there, reading random comment sections like can we please turn the events that lead up to The Fall into a prequel series? I would read the crap out of a politics heavy series exploring the Order pre-fall and how that played out.
