Thank you so much for your ideas! I have already started on my chord progressions and I must say... this is the first time I feel comfortable using the bottom notes. Yay!

Great Video Amy, thank you for sharing. I would like like to buy my first HP D Kurd with extended notes but after this video I'm starting to think maybe not. My thoughts were I'd rather have more so as I grow I don't have to buy an new one. What is your suggestion?

How many extended notes? If its less than 14 then I say go for it. You will appreciate it in 6 months time!

I totally second @handpanphil here. If you start out with an extended scale, you can always learn and practice a small subset of it first. Like with the D Kurd, you can start out just learning to play the D Celtic scale. (It goes D A C D E F G A C) Then as you get more comfortable you can add in more notes and evoke different moods. After a few months you'll really appreciate the ability to play a wider selection of chords and scales. :)

Totally get it! I saved up for years too, and started with a cheap tongue drum. I was super lucky to make this my job very early when I still had one pan, and now handpan makers support me, and I them in return. There's no way I would be able to afford all these otherwise. It's definitely a privileged position!
