7:10 these death cutscenes also show up in the Ratatouille video game that Asobo made. Asobo apairently really likes to traumatise children. That explains why in A Tale Plague: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Reqium Asobo desided to put their protagonists - who are children - constantly in traumatizing situations.
You don't remember eve being trigger happy? She blows up an entire cargo ship and fires at Wall-e at least 3 times (just watched the movie again with my son. Eve fires at Wall-E 4 times)
THIS GAME WAS MY CHILDHOOD OH MY GOD I may be biased because I was such a big Wall-E fan but I thought this game was so much fun as a kid, and it still looks just as fun
God I love when old as fuck nostalgic games that nobody cares about have cool competitive speedrun scenes and content creators bringing attention to their history
@@StibWoods hell yeah! I mean genuinely I wasn’t kidding the speedrun scenes of games like that are so cool and tight knit and like genuinely passionate about their game. I’m glad you got to include that part of this video, and I’m glad you were willing to showcase this game just, in general!
Holy shit this really brought me back. Sometimes I wondered if I hallucinated this game back then, so it was an absolute blast from the past watching this. And much like you, I never got far in it because of how difficult it was for a kid. Or maybe, I was just a dumb kid. Either way, thank you so much!
The 'this game put fear of death in me' is so true. The black screen of death and eternal abyss sure did scare the hell out of kid me *on the note of 'games nobody cares about' - anyone remember Surf's Up games? Still keep a PSP to play this one when the mood is right
As someone who played the game as a kid, I feel both proud and stupid from managing to beat the entire game without ever realizing that you could attack enemies in box mode.
Very well-crafted and funny video!! The quick look at the Speedrunning community was appreciated too and it was cool that you joined the Discord for questions. I plan to run the game again sometime soon since my interest in it has risen again (though it never really left), so thanks for shedding some more light on the game!
Thank you! Even though I didn’t really go super in depth about the speedrun, I wanted to talk about it because I’ve never seen a retrospective talk about that community
Okay after finishing the video, gotta say, pretty well done. *Very* shocking to learn that there is an active speedrunning community for this game. That's honestly pretty dope. Also, as a game dev, game dev enthusiast, cut content fanatic, and archivist, it's wild to learn that there are completely different versions of some levels between versions of this game. I'd love to see if there's a "definitive edition" or "restoration mod" for the PC version of the game that allows the player access to both versions of the levels. If not, I would bet speedrunning would be quite a chore just due to the differences. It's hard to get one's hands on 6th and 7th gen consoles and games these days, after all. Also fun fact: According to TCRF, the PSP version of the game has 8 test maps left over in it (one crashes the game.) There's no page for the PS2 or 360 versions of the game, so it's hard to say if there's anything neat hiding in those versions, but the PC port actually has an unused HDR mode that can be accessed by editing your setup.cfg file.
This video is really good quality. The speedy but detailed enough pacing respects the viewers time and the jokes and bits scattered throughout are excellently entertaining. I hope you'll keep it up!
Id imagine the waving Wall E would be cut due to the kinda dark undertones of that concept. Like sure we see hints of remnants of corpses are around but having hope being crushed by that would kill the vibes
I remember replaying through this game earlier this year and I beat it, honestly loved the hell out of it. The first time I ever played it was way back in 2008 when I was 7 years old at the apple store. They had some computers out with games and beside Lego Batman I played this Wall-E game. After that day I never got to play it until it randomly appeared on steam that sparked that memory. For a game that came out in 2008 that was a tie in for a movie it holds up really well.
I have so much nostalgia playing this game. I have a memory burnt into my brain of lil me playing the PSP version of the game while visiting my step dad in his old flat. I remember not knowing the concept of loading a previous save was, meaning i played the opening levels a LOT (i don't think i saw beyond Hidden Treasure). I can't remember what happened to my PSP or my copy of the game, but i haven't seen either for a decade. I finally got round to playing the game in it's entirety a couple of years ago. I totally agree that the game starts to fall off during the Axiom levels, but i didn't mind them too much & was happy i got to fill in a missing gap from my childhood
Dude that’s awesome. I don’t have a PSP but I love seeing handheld ports of stuff especially when they’re the full game like with this game. For the longest time when I was little I was stuck hidden treasure too lmao, I replayed those first few levels a ton, they’re classics.

Really well made video!! Absolutely deserves more viewership this was a really fun watch. This game absolutely holds a special place in my childhood as feverish and poorly remembered as it is
Oh my God was the PC game literally just the PSP game ported to PC? That's insane, I had this game on PSP and, to be honest I actually quite enjoyed it as a kid. What I found to be the most interesting part of it all was how it was clearly being made alongside the movie, as the story follows the original story of the film (specifically how Wall-E saves Eve near the end rather than the other way around, you can see in the Wall-E Deleted Scenes that this was the movie's original story.) There's a good chance that you touch on *all* of this in the video here but I like to talk and I'm only 40 seconds in.
Actually the game wasn't necessarily "ported" from one platform or another. It was released for Nintendo DS, PS2 and PSP, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii too. Even worse, each generation had different content. PS2 and PSP had 18 worlds to explore, PS3 XBox 360 and Wii had 9: half the content.
I had this on my psp and I completed the whole thing although I remember it being really hard. It was a big part of childhood I'm so glad people still remember it
This content is great, I'm so glad youtube recommended it to me. If there's anything worth mentioning, I feel like the mixing on the background music is a little inconsistent? Just seems quiet in certain segments, especially when speaking about the soundtrack. Other times, it's a bit loud. This may be because I'm hard of hearing though haha. Keep up the great work!

Wow, I had no idea the game was different for the different consoles, me and my younger brother played this on our Xbox 360 and it had no prologue. We also had Evil shopping carts that followed us and exploded when it got to close. Also when EVE came down to Earth we were able to control her and fly around an open map as her. the only time Wall-E could shoot was when he got EVE's gun. there were a couple of missions where it was both Wall-e and EVE and EVE could help Wall-E glide to go over large gaps. We had a PVP mode in the 360 game and we could even find EVE's gun and use it to destroy the other player. I think the 360 version was the better version compared to this
Yeah this game has drastically different versions across consoles. As a kid I liked this one much more but I’ve tried the other recently and I think it does a lot of things better. Thinking about doing a video about it too
Dude I loved this game so much as a kid, if you for whatever reason see this comment, try the ratatouille game, It’s just as much, if not more of a trip than this game.
I don't know what's going on here, maybe it's just another one of those attempts to be exclusive with inside jokes or something, but what's the deal with your level type descriptions? "Oral"? "Atrotov/afro toast"? Dude, even the transcript feature is confused, so imagine how it feels to listen to the stream of quick-cut words, following your train of thought, but with random terms thrown in.
GOODNESS GRACIOUS

Also when EVE came down to Earth we were able to control her and fly around an open map as her. the only time Wall-E could shoot was when he got EVE's gun. there were a couple of missions where it was both Wall-e and EVE and EVE could help Wall-E glide to go over large gaps. We had a PVP mode in the 360 game and we could even find EVE's gun and use it to destroy the other player. I think the 360 version was the better version compared to this
Yeah this game has drastically different versions across consoles. As a kid I liked this one much more but I’ve tried the other recently and I think it does a lot of things better. Thinking about doing a video about it too
Wonder if this qualifies Wall-E for smash?
He’s already in? Right next to Lucario and Toon Link?
Now they do
Dude I loved this game so much as a kid, if you for whatever reason see this comment, try the ratatouille game, It’s just as much, if not more of a trip than this game.
Oh, trust me I’m aware
there was a game?
I played this on the PSP. The graphics looked so bland in that version, but I kinda prefer them.
you should take a look at the ps3 version of this game, surprisingly a different experience. More of an exploration focused game
I probably will!
White mans been here.
How can you tell?
Video essays.

Did you watch the part where I explained what those words are?
