Soo relatable. My Ma was an expat and dad is American (literal mayflower descendant.) We’d live half in the states and half in England. Both countries feel like home, and my immediate family are in both countries. My accent is weird but subtly, neither American nor English and is also a mixture of both. I had a crisis when declaring my nationality as I was a dual citizen. Both places ARE home. When I’m in one I miss the other desperately and feel like I’m always sobbing getting on a plane. Now I predominantly reside in America since I married a Yank who is a Naval combat veteran.
Also to add a funny: I was in school in both countries and when I’d come back to the states, my comparable classes were essentially doing the same lessons I just went over in England, then catching up all over.

I did IB in the states! But I went to a school that had an international highschool program and I’m pretty sure there are only about a hundred of those programs in the US, maybe less
Ayyye USA IB siblings! It prepared us for college but not in the ways they said it would lol. At least I think so. Did you get the diploma? I was I think four points off from getting it. I know my biology and math exams were good, but English and history...those two beat me up. My elective was music and our music teacher did not teach us or prepare us for the exam lol but she was super nice. Tbh, that whole thing they say about IB diploma earners starting college as a sophomore might be more of a negative than a positive. Those undergrad years were amazing, I wouldn't want to shorten that simply because I did good in high school. IB has definitely prepared me more for grad school than undergrad.
We DO have IB diploma in the USA. I was in the IB Programme in Georgia. He's right, getting the diploma is _very_ difficult, and you need a 32 across all of the exams during the IB exams to get the diploma. That's how it was when I did it about twelve years ago, I wouldn't be surprised if it changed since then. I highly recommend the IB Programme. It's supposed to be a program that prepared you for college/university and can give you college credit. For instance, if you get the diploma, it's possible to start college/university as a sophomore. I don't think it actually prepares you for college specifically, but it greatly prepares you for grad school. I'm in the PhD program about to graduate, and I've benefit more from it in grade school than undergrad.
I did IB too and got my diploma in 2019 in CA. It helped me in college a ton. I was prepared for the amount of work, and sometimes college was easier than IB in my opinion.
@@abrianalvarado My IB sibling! Yeah that's where I think IB helps the most - the amount of work. IB had a lot of work that you had to manage that was on par with college (really, college had less work lol). But IB helped a ton with grad school because I wrote a thesis for my Master's and now doing PhD work, publishing papers. The Biology IAs in IB set the foundation for writing research papers and a thesis because they're essentially the same thing. I remember doing my thesis and I was like "I'm basically doing my Biology IA right now" lol. It's really cool you got your diploma. After graduating, I considered retaking the exam because I really wanted the bragging rights to say I have it, but after being in college, I _very_ quickly forgot about IB. I wish I got the diploma but I wouldn't want to get all of the credits that come with it so start college as a sophomore because freshman year is already a wild year, I would want that full experience, also I wouldn't want to shorten my undergrad experience. Being in college is a very special point in life where you have a nice, balanced mix of freedom, responsibilities, and fun, all without much of the stress that you get with adult responsibilities afterwards. I did find, though, that students who went through the IB program had a bit more academic knowledge than non-IB students. Like knowing more biology, chemistry, econ, math, etc. Then there's ToK which I haven't seen any other type of high school curriculum replicate that class and its teachings. ToK was very vital in teaching students how to gain and process knowledge along with what people perceive as facts (or truths). I would recommend IB for ToK alone tbh.
