  • Michigan-based photographer, Beth Buelow joins us to unleash the creativity that ICM can infuse into your photography. Few photography techniques break the rules as much as Intentional Camera Movement (“ICM”) which makes it a perfect outlet for when we're creatively stuck, bored, or on autopilot. ICM isn't about the blur; it's about freedom! ICM can add movement, depth, and texture to our work while inviting us to see the photographic potential in just about anything. You’ll leave with practical information that will inspire the creative rebel in you.

Absolutely loved this presentation. Funny how I ended up here - read an Out of Chicago newsletter, Beth was included in there; then I checked out her IG; which then led me to your your tube channel Linda. Now following both of you.

Yay! Hope that you have a lot of success with ICM. I'm still a newbie but once you get the hang of it, it really does open you up to more possibilities and the creativity it generates is a nice boost of motivation.

I love ICM, but have been stuck in panning and up and down. I am familiar with Andrew Gray, but whenever I try that circle thing he does...I get nothing I like...but then I see that he does LOADS of editing. Anyway, you made this so interesting and informative and certainly more accessible. I will def be going out to do more.

Yay! Keep trying. You'll get it and it'll become second nature. Thanks for the kind note.

Awesome, Leticia! I know what you mean about Andrew Gray's work... I've tried a bit of those kinds of wider circular movements and they turn out a hot mess, LOL! But there are so many options for movement that are more controllable. Try some gentle jittering, which depending on the subject can produce a painterly effect. And short, smooth movements that follow (or go contrary to) the strongest line of your subject might be interesting, too. In short, PLAY and see what happens. Have fun getting out there!
