Now here's the reason Silver is such a good rival and character. Remember his Golbat? That pokemon that wasnt evolved even when you battled him in Kanto. His Pokemon evolved into Crobat in the Rematch. After all these battles he finally realized that his Pokemon are friends and not Tools and that they only reach their full Potential if the bond between trainer and pokemon is strong enough. In the end Silver turned from an asshole into a trainer respecting his team. -and then we have Zyrus who for whatever fucking reason somehow has a crobat.-

As the son of Giovanni, revealed through a Celebi event in the remakes as well as in Pokémon Generations, it’s shown that Silver doesn’t exactly hold his father in high regard. I’d assume he was mostly self-taught and raised, and that he knew nothing of love or compassion by the time of GSC, shown by him blaming his Pokémon for his losses throughout most of his rival battles during Johto and being physically abusive with the player regardless of gender. By the time you get to Blackthorn, he begins to have further development after a talking to from Lance, and his battle in Johto’s Victory Road has him actually acknowledge the player’s skill. By the Indigo Plateau rematch, he’s learned how to show compassion for his partners, as evidenced by his Golbat evolving in a Crobat between Victory Road and the postgame, and he even offered to return the stolen starter to Professor Elm, who let him keep it. All of this, combined with an awesome design and battle theme, convince me that Silver is the absolute best rival in all of Pokémon, better than even Blue and Hugh.

This guy's probably my favorite rival. I know they've pretty much made better rivals out there(Hugh) but, damn, I was in love with Silver as a character for the longest time. HGSS just made it better by giving him a confirmed reason to hate on Team Rocket(Papa Giovanni literally WALKING OUT ON HIS BOY). If that "Ariana is Silver's mom" theory ever gets confirmed, and I doubt it will, that'd give him _even more_ of a reason to be so hateful of everything, especially Team Rocket(also friggin' love his HGSS redesign).
While I agree with you on Silver (he’s my favorite) I don’t think Hugh is better (imo) because all he does is gripe about the stolen purrloin from 5 years back and is hot headed and kind of a jerk to anyone who isn’t the main protag and he doesn’t even get any development really
Duuuuuude 0:48 to 0:58 is just insane levels of talent. Pulling off off-beats like this is incredible. Video game music is modern day talent at its best. Don’t argue with me
I want to see a hypothetical battle between Silver's final team with Giovanni's strongest team (the one in Yellow, I believe). Silver's starter can be Feraligatr since that's what his manga counterpart uses.
Silver's symbolism Feraligatr: the normally mischievous one, turned full-on delinquent by its corrupt trainer Crobat: the one who evolved only after Silver learned about the value of friendship Gengar: the strategic one, who only reached its full potential when Silver found somebody to trade with Magneton: the hardy tank, testament to Silver's changing battle style as his journey continues Sneasel: sneaky just like Silver, ironically stolen from its original trainer who viewed it as an accessory Alakazam: he needed a sixth, ended up being the convenient second trade Pokemon His team does tell you a little bit about the stages of your journey when you were younger. First, you seek a Pokemon you're able to get along with. Then, you seek something a little different, but agreeable. Then, perhaps something so adept at battle when it comes in that it almost feels like hax. Then, there comes the one who fights differently than all of the others. Then the point of the journey comes where you question yourself, and seek out a Pokemon that reminds you of yourself. At last, you fill in that last space on the team, and hope it's enough to win the day.
his Golbat doesn't evolve a Crobat before late into the game, where he's developed and learnt to show love for his Pokemon. He even starts walking around with his starter like you, the player, does ^^
One of the best character developments in a pokemon game is shown by how his Golbat eventually evolved to Crobat due to him realizing his ways of treating pokemon were wrong.
I think the people don't realize how musically complex this piece is. I ripped this music from a rom, looked at it in a DAW, and oh boy... It has 11 midi instrument channels, and all of them constantly swap between instruments ! One track even has 21 instrument changes ! That's so many. Here is the list of all instruments used in this song: - Overdriven Guitar - Distortion Guitar - Drawbar Organ - Slap Bass - Drumset - String Ensemble - Trumpet - Square Wave - Sawtooth Wave - Flute - Grand Piano - Vibraphone - Tubular Bells - Glockenspiel - Pizzicato Strings See ? Total of 15 Instruments ! When listening to this song, you'll probanly focus on the Sawtooth lead, and occasional String Ensemble section, and you're missing out on some stuff that makes this track so complex. Here are some notable examples, headphones reccomended: 0:24 - String Ensemble and Pizzicato Going Crazy in the background 0:48 - Possibly the best drum solo ever created 0:58 - Nice Overdriven Guitar Solo hiding under the Square Lead Huge respect for Mr. Go Ichinose for making this banger of a song, I'll miss the times when Game Freak put actual effort in their games...
@@lmaolol7702 You are correct with the track count, but majority have less instrument changes, or have no instrument changes at all. And you are also correct that Gen 5 had more midi tracks to use. The record goes to PWT Finals Battle theme from Black 2 and White 2, it has over 15 tracks with a ton of instrument changes, two of tracks having even 88 instrument changes ! It's really impressive how a little thing as Nintendo DS can handle such complicated musical data.
@@lmaolol7702You are forgetting that a midi program change (or sseq in this case) take up a lot of bytes. A little more, and the song wouldn't literally play in the game. I recently tried to remix this song and put it in the HGSS ROM. I edited the Tubular Bells part by adding Some String Ensemble melody as well as Guitar, and just like I said, It wouldn't play.
Silver was the G He is my favorite and most Intimidating rival his theme plays out beautifully for him I mean come on this man had Gengar,Crobat,Magenite,Alakazam,(I think),Sneasel, and a starter Like Jesus he is so COOOOL and when he kicks your ass for not minding your own buisness I knew he would be my favorite And for those of you who hate him for being mean.. Silver was just amazing he will and always will be my favorite rival Also his costume is beautiful :p
Why does everybody talk about how gladion has a crobat, showing that he's a nice guy (not even about his silvally in the same boat), but nobody talks about how SILVER has a crobat?
This rival showed the most character development, from being a brat that stole a Totodile, to being a caring trainer that realized his wrongs. I hate how his father abandoned him, but its only made him a better character.
I don’t hate Hau, I find him to be a pleasant character to have but I really miss the douchebag rivals. Like Blue and Silver. I’m happy that they include our edge boy gladion.
Nyta Sam I love Silver because he wants to be strong and develops into an actually nice guy by the end. Blue just kinda exists. Hau is OK and Gladion while a bit edgy, is a cool guy.
Satan The Arbiter In term of character development, Silver is the best example. Especially when we see his golbat evolve into crobat and his Pokémon follow him around.
i actually got really excited when he said "see ya, vizzy!" in mt. moon. like.. a lot more than i should've. pretty sure i started tearing up a little cause he was finally nice to me. i love silver so much it's unreal.
I remember playing the original Gold and being absolutely terrified of this guy, even to the point I wasnt able to play it anymore(I was 7 :P), fast-forward to a few years later, I get HeartGold, and as I played through the game with experience, I got past the fight I was stuck on, and kept playing, and even realized a new-found respect for this guy. Silver is one of my favorite rivals, alongside Wally, Hugh, and Hau(USUM Version)
After the fight in the dragon's den if you go to Professor Elm's lab, the assistant will tell you that Silver has come to apologize and he wants to return the stolen Pokémon because he has finally understood what it means Pokemons and Pokemon battles, the professor tells him that his pokémon seems happy next to him so he better keep it, the assistant says silver left the lab smiling.
I named him Dick. As a 7 year old I thought it was funny, ok it was the newest curse word I learned and plenty of old guys named Richard were called that.
I named him ??? way back in Pokemon Crystal, because I was apparently an idiot as a kid and thought that when the police asked for his name I needed to accurately repeat what the game said his name was.
You can see how Silver changed a lot from the beggining to the end of the game when he uses a Crobat in his final battle. A pokémon that evolves through friendship,
I love how there's bits of the theme that goes more slow-paced compared to the rest of the song. It shows a more in-depth look to Silver's character as a whole.
The fact that this guy continues to talk shit to you despite him losing every battle with you is all the motivation I needed to raise my typhlosion to level 90 and completely annihilate the elite 4 and lance

The last rival that actually put up a damn challenge. In fact he put up more of a challenge than gary/blue(/green) did. That's why he's going down as my favorite.
His team is level 60s though...

Well at least none of them are your friends that you hang out and go for coffee and stuff like in every other generation
I at least like cheren for being analytical and smart
The bass line is absolutely amazing 0:42 to 0:56 , specially the lick at 0:50, as a bass player this is gorgeous !
Silver : Weavile ? Magnezone ? I don't know those Pokémon !
He's red haired, his father is black haired. Much consistence, very Kappa, wow.

That wacky high synth in the left speaker makes this version so incredible.
We need more rivals like Silver. The others just seem too... Happy go lucky to me.

First time hearing this version - awesome! Love the old versions for the creepiness that 8-bit audio brings.

I love Silver as a rival because he has a really diverse team and provides a challenge every battle
I always swept with Ampharos or Crobat.
I want to see a hypothetical battle between Silver's final team with Giovanni's strongest team (the one in Yellow, I believe). Silver's starter can be Feraligatr since that's what his manga counterpart uses.

Still the best rival in any of the main series games.
Silver's symbolism
Feraligatr: the normally mischievous one, turned full-on delinquent by its corrupt trainer
Crobat: the one who evolved only after Silver learned about the value of friendship
Gengar: the strategic one, who only reached its full potential when Silver found somebody to trade with
Magneton: the hardy tank, testament to Silver's changing battle style as his journey continues
Sneasel: sneaky just like Silver, ironically stolen from its original trainer who viewed it as an accessory
Alakazam: he needed a sixth, ended up being the convenient second trade Pokemon
His team does tell you a little bit about the stages of your journey when you were younger.
Magnezone: the hardier tank
Weavile: the ultimate sneakster who was able to reach her full potential after he showed her the ways of the razor fang
@@43dl3ntil no offense but his sneasel is a dude
@@ohmeohmicah Oops
Shows no positive emotion to his Pokemon.
Has a Crobat.
Although I suppose you could apply that very same logic to Cyrus...
his Golbat doesn't evolve a Crobat before late into the game, where he's developed and learnt to show love for his Pokemon. He even starts walking around with his starter like you, the player, does ^^
Well yeah, I suppose that makes sense.
But Cyrus tho he's a rulebreaker
probably drugged his pokemon to like him xp
xD or got one of his admins to evolve it for him
Cyrus probably gave his golbat a shitload of proteins and irons, etc. since those increase friendship
God this brings back memories. Excuse me while I try to find my old copy of Silver version
One of the best character developments in a pokemon game is shown by how his Golbat eventually evolved to Crobat due to him realizing his ways of treating pokemon were wrong.
I wish rivals were still douches... I would have been more in love with Pokemon from a long time before I did enjoy it mostly
Yeah, now they are just pointless friends...
Rival Buttsex wants to battle!

Tuga XD yes, i named my rival dickbutt XD
mine too buttpie!
Nah, that would get old. However, they need to be more challenging, or have some more competitive spirit.
Underrated Pokemon theme that still slaps hard
Now that I think about it HG/SS had a really creative way to name the rival. Instead of "oh no I forgot the name of my grandson"
0:42 - 0:58 makes you feel some certain type of way...
Favorite part
Epic theme
This slaps so hard for 2 level 5s slapping each other
I think the people don't realize how musically complex this piece is. I ripped this music from a rom, looked at it in a DAW, and oh boy... It has 11 midi instrument channels, and all of them constantly swap between instruments ! One track even has 21 instrument changes ! That's so many. Here is the list of all instruments used in this song:
- Overdriven Guitar
- Distortion Guitar
- Drawbar Organ
- Slap Bass
- Drumset
- String Ensemble
- Trumpet
- Square Wave
- Sawtooth Wave
- Flute
- Grand Piano
- Vibraphone
- Tubular Bells
- Glockenspiel
- Pizzicato Strings
See ? Total of 15 Instruments !
When listening to this song, you'll probanly focus on the Sawtooth lead, and occasional String Ensemble section, and you're missing out on some stuff that makes this track so complex. Here are some notable examples, headphones reccomended:
0:24 - String Ensemble and Pizzicato Going Crazy in the background
0:48 - Possibly the best drum solo ever created
0:58 - Nice Overdriven Guitar Solo hiding under the Square Lead
Huge respect for Mr. Go Ichinose for making this banger of a song, I'll miss the times when Game Freak put actual effort in their games...
most dppt and hgss tracks are like that. i think gen 5 upped the limit to 15 tracks.
@@fromixtycomplicated, yes. but not that impressive when you remember it's just a bunch of switches.
Very interesting, how do i do this for myself with other soundtracks?
Silver was the G He is my favorite and most Intimidating rival his theme plays out beautifully for him

Why does everybody talk about how gladion has a crobat, showing that he's a nice guy (not even about his silvally in the same boat), but nobody talks about how SILVER has a crobat?

Cyrus also had a crobat, but he was a bit crazy

"I used the toughest pokemon!"

Most nostalgic theme for me. Tbh, this is one of Pokemon's best remastered songs.

This is probaly the best rival theme in pokemon
After the fight in the dragon's den if you go to Professor Elm's lab, the assistant will tell you that Silver has come to apologize and he wants to return the stolen Pokémon because he has finally understood what it means Pokemons and Pokemon battles, the professor tells him that his pokémon seems happy next to him so he better keep it, the assistant says silver left the lab smiling.
I named him Dick.
As a 7 year old I thought it was funny, ok it was the newest curse word I learned and plenty of old guys named Richard were called that.
I named him Jorji
Still dont Know Why i did that
I named him ??? way back in Pokemon Crystal, because I was apparently an idiot as a kid and thought that when the police asked for his name I needed to accurately repeat what the game said his name was.

A pokémon that evolves through friendship,
I love how there's bits of the theme that goes more slow-paced compared to the rest of the song. It shows a more in-depth look to Silver's character as a whole.
