I love my 400 L, I hand load so no problem with ammo. I took a doe opening day @170 yards she just went 20 yards. That was with the Power Point 215. A friend took a nice buck the same day with one of my hand loads with Hornaday 200 XTP. Put a hole the size of a golf ball at 110 yards.

@robertjustice7911 For me, I would love to see more ammo availability, but in many ways I still want one. I may have to hit you up on some reloading data 😉. I've been looking into some 40 cal smokeless muzzleloader bullets that I believe would be great in that caliber! Thanks for watching and commenting! God bless

I see very little need for the 400L. However, just like the 350L, ammo was scarce at first, but it's gotten so popular now that there are many companies loading for it. I just don't see the 400 making waves when the 350L and the 450BM that's offered in either bolt or AR platform can do what's needed and the 360 gets the lever gun out in the straight walled only woods if one wants more than a pistol caliber.

The 400 Legend will be another failed cartridge because it can't compete with the 350 Legend. It was a waste of time and resources because the industry is clueless about what the shooting market wants.

Seems like it sells out every time the stores get any. I bought the first barrel available for an ar 15. Several different projectiles are available 40 cal and 10 mm.

@ericfort9667 Really hard to find around here. It's pretty much a order when you find it available. I have to admit I really do want one, but for now I'm holding off on buying one. Telling on myself here but I have been looking at some smokeless muzzleloader bullets in .401 that I could reload it in. I've looked at the pistol bullets for it and a little concerned that they want handle the full velocity. Still looking at all of that data. But its a really cool caliber. Thanks for watching and commenting. God bless and Merry Christmas

Some of the best reload bullets for the 400 Legend can be found in Hornady's 45 Cal Sabot with 40 Cal 200 gr SST Bullet 200gr (Item #67132) constructed for the same velocities as the 400 legend and having a BC of .265. Hornady already has a line making these great bullets for the 400 Legend, so don't be surprised if they ramp up for the ammo.

That's great information to hear, if they are the rifle bullets. I must have missed that one there web site. I had actually called and talked to a representative about the 400 legend bullets. But we are all human. I wouldn't mind reloading for it. But like I said, I hadn't seen reloading bullets as of yet. I think it is a very good cartridge. Hopefully production on ammo and reloading stuff are ramping up. That would change my mind. Thanks for watching and commenting! God bless

If everyone on the fence stays on the fence waiting “for it to take off” the market will never create the demand for all the ammo companies to make more ammo options.

@fastrmz very true. I think at this point, people that like the caliber are either going to have to be satisfied with the very limited bullet options or reload! Even at that, .451 in rifle bullets are slim pickings. Thanks for watching and commenting, God Bless

I would like to build one in an A R platform but i ain’t seen hide nor hair of any type of gun in 400 legend here in ga where i live plus i agree with you it is kind of tough to buy or build a gun when the ammo for it is so minimalistic 😬

I agree. An AR platform 400 legend would be awesome. I have 2 350 legends 1 is the Remington 783 which I reviewed on my channel. But I have another 350 legend and a 450 bushmaster in AR's. So the 400 legend would be a great add on to the collection! Hopefully atleast federal ammunition company will jump on board with ammunition. I would reconsider if another ammunition manufacturer or 2 would jump on board. Thanks for watching and commenting! God bless

I was waiting for the ruger American gen 2 to come out and it has, we’ll sort of not really it was sopose to be available mid March it’s now the end of May and no one has it yet. The other problem is that the straight walled state I hunt in ( Delaware) does NOT allow 40 caliber. The 400 meets all the qualifications but there is a tiny technicality that lists the calls and 40 is not listed. 41 is listed so I’m waiting to see what happens with the 41 Great Lakes, which actually seems to be a better performer anyway. Time will tell

I've got two 350 Legends. One AR and one Savage. On paper, I really don't see that much difference between the 350 and 400. I really can't see the 400 doing something I can't do with the 350 in the areas that I hunt. Besides, If something comes up that my 350 can't handle, I switch out uppers to my 458 SOCOM.....lol

Good way to look at it! I did a review on 350 legend bullets and found two that I really liked and stocked up on. Yeah I really do think it hits a sweet spot in the big bore straight wall cartridges. But I would love to see winchester either bring out copper impact or bonded hollow points like they did in the 350 legend or some better reloading bullets in 40 cal. Hopefully this year will tell the tell on if the 400 legend makes it or not. Thanks for watching and commenting. God bless

@@chadmorrison5094 Yea, What I used to like a bout the 350 legend was that people were saying that I could reload the 350 Legend with pistol bullets. Then it turns out that as I learned about it, The companies are telling me that "350 Legend is .352 diameter barrel and the 9mm bullet is .351 barrel, while you technically can reload it in there, where the bullet will not sit properly in the lands and grooves it will be wildly inaccurate." "We recommend staying with the proprietary 9mm rifle bullets made for the 350 Legend."
That was a huge turn off.
This is not the case with the 400 Legend. The 400 Legend is made to take 10mm/40SW Pistol bullets from the ground up and everything is the right size for it all around.
So maybe it took them a try or two to get things right, but it seems the 400 legend has what it takes to attract a person like me to it now.

The reason it did not launch well is because there were issues with the magazines. Now a year later, they are just getting the magazines figured out and out to market. Poor marketing decision on Winchesters part. They got the cart ahead of the horse. I will buy a Ruger American Gen II in 400 Legend. I have a 350 Legend and think it is anemic, and I have a 450 Bushmaster and think it is great for myself, but too much for my wife or daughters.

I'm buying one. I have a 350 Legend and it's anemic, but good for people that are recoil sensitive. Ballistically, the 400 makes the 450BM obsolete. If production ends in the future, guess I'll be buying a new rifle. That sounds like threatening me with a good time.

I did find that 350 legend copper impact did really well in a test I did of the 350 legend bullets. It was one of my earlier videos last fall if you would like to check it out. 360's saving grace is the lever platform and those who are familiar with the old 35Remington, that's basically what the 360 is but a little better ballistics and higher energy levels.

  • @Stinger2i
    @Stinger2i 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think the 400 is a really good idea on paper but I agree with you I don't think it's going to take off. About the 450 Bushmaster I believe it got popular because you can put it in an AR platform. Which is fine but for those of us the restricted areas for centerfire rifle usage, honestly I'm having a hard time justifying the cost of any of the straight wall centerfire rifles on the market because it's just really hard to beat a Hornady
12 gauge slug out of my old 12 gauge pump with rifled barrel other than the probable accuracy advantage for 200 to 300 yd shots that doesn't happen often especially here I n southern Michigan. Now I have consulted my gunsmith about changing a 450 Bushmaster bolt action into a 460 Smith & Wesson because of the much higher PSI which as a hand loader I could really take advantage of but then again a guy would have to justify the cost over that 12 gauge slug. A 300 grain Hornady 12 ga. SST @ 200 yds has 10 fps & 10 ft lbs of energy more than Federal 300 grain 450 BM @ the same distance. So do I spend $600 on a nice Savage 450 then type it off with a $300 Leupold ?? I can't really justify it unless a guy is warning a 450 in an AR platform.
A big horn armory 460 Smith & Wesson rifle for 3500 used is just out of the question and not worth it in my book.
As a hand loader it would be fun to convert a bolt action 450 into a 460 and play around with handloads but that will be an expensive project.
