I just went to the Calgary Stampede today and was surprised to see the Corral building is gone, it just feels super weird without it. Had a lot of memories with that place, I remember watching the Light Balance show in there during the 2019 Stampede, and I think they also used to host the Superdogs show and the Bell Adrenaline show in that building in past years.
Miss the Stampede Corral and sounds like you have the same memories that I did. Aware of the history and who played in there but it predated me. Always blew my mind that the Calgary Flames played in there before the Saddledome got built. May go down to the Stampede on the final weekend and hope to capture more regular footage both on the BMO Centre expansion and the new events centre if they can figure out the financials.
Thanks for the video Brett! It's sad seeing the building getting demolished. It was also home of Stampede Wrestling for a long time. A lot of legendary pro wrestlers got their start in those walls, including Brett Hart so it was fitting that the Hitman play the last hockey games there! Another interesting note is that the Corral was the 3rd professional hockey arena in Calgary. The Tigers used to play in the Sherman Rink over a century ago, and then they moved to Victoria Arena after it burnt down. Then Victoria Arena burnt down as well so the Stampede Corral was built out of concrete and stone so it wouldn't burn down like the other 2. I find it ironic how the first 2 hockey arenas in Calgary burnt down and then many decades later our new hockey team is named the Flames!
