Going to be back there in 2025 for the Calgary Comic Book Expo. And I cannot wait to go in and see this brand new place for not only to meet some actors, but to see how big this place is. I am looking forward to it for sure ^^
sad to see the old Corral go. I remember as a kid watching Ed Whalen and Stu Hart with Stampede Wrestling and watching a young John Davidson and the Calgary Centennials, and Calgary Cowboys. Good ole days!
I remember my dad taking Myself and my brother to watching Hockey in the late 60s early 70s the Semi Pro Hockey league Calgary Stampeders, Drumheller Minors, Edmonton Oil Kings and etc.. That was real hockey Bench clearing brawls tons of fights, lots of blood.. That was the first times in the Corral for me..
Fun fact: This was the same budget as Roger arena Edmonton, plus calgary is building a 1.22 billion dollar arena event center close to it, including everything around it
Lets thank the men & women ( blue collar ) that worked through the rain snow ---- & ++++ temps. Without them this building would have never been done on time & budget.
@@chickenmuffin I'm not. I know a few people who worked on that site since day 1. They had to pay for parking or pay to take the train to that site for years. To be honest trades people build the very buildings everyone uses and they never get a break when building them, ie: free parking, discount on food or coffee etc...
It's amazing they can construct a building on schedule. But there's endless construction projects that are 100x smaller on scale all over the city that take years to be addressed. Oh and also to mention, all the pot holes that get crappily patched
I remember going to the Corral for Stampede Wrestling with the parents and relatives when Gene Kiniski, Killer Kowalski and the Hart family were still around! OMG am I ever OLD if I remember that! It was literally a RIOT happening at the Corral a few times with Stampede Wrestling and those wild Roller Derby events! It's weird to see the Corral go down in the way it did! In the end it was a tired building meant for an earlier and more brutal time. I didn't exactly have FOND memories of that because wrestling or roller derby wasn't my thing but for the Corral itself I definitely liked to watch amateur and pro hockey inside of it and those were quite pleasant memories for me in my early youth! I definitely like the NEW building much better! So much more modern-looking and very functional. I am curious to see what they will do with the Saddledome! V
Nothing can ever come close to the Flames games in the Corral. It probably wasn't making the profits they wanted but for the fans to feel the game like that...never again.
they should have built the new NHL Arena on this site. Then tear down the old Saddledome and replace it with the "new BMO Centre.... but that would have made good sense for Calgary. Very archaic old fashioned construction techniques used in this build....everything was assebled on site - no completed panels lifted into place = massive waste of money.
Huh... WHY??? Another tax payer funded building, just like the so called new arena that the FLAMES should be paying for 100%, instead of being paid for by the tax payers whether we like it or not? What was wrong with the old BMO Centre? It looked pretty modern to me. Seems like a waste of money to me in these tough economical times! That's Gondek for you, spend spend spend, when it's not her money.
What a striking building! I love the way the sun travels across the different parts of the roof and cladding - very cool!
First time I see a project finished on time and on budget. I hope you start a trend here 💪🏽
Awesome how far this has come. It started 2 years later than the strip mall/car wash in my community and looks like it will be completed first.

I helped pour all the concrete in this building 😮
very nice.
I wonder when the saddledome will be replaced?🤔
There currently working on the design. Should be completed by 2027.

Fun fact, every construction worker on that site had to pay for parking for their time working on that site.
That wouldn't surprise me in the least.
You're kidding me.

@@brandonking1737 i must be missing something, did I say I was?
Looks big enough to stick a hockey arena in ;)
Beautiful!
I wonder about the snow on that slope. Do you need to clean it often?

Spectactular ! 👏🫶
Got to love all the people saying it is speed up

Before the Corral Stampede Wrestling was i the Victoria Pavilion.... guess I'm a bit older than you! :)
@@tempestmkiv YUP! I was a young-un in the 1970's and a teen in the 1980's -- Was a fun time though!

Looks like they used every left over piece of cladding from every job from the last ten years to do the final cladding of the building.
Same designer as Rogers Place?
You made going to the Saddledome miserable...
WOW what build 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤑🤑🤑 was there a pause for Covid??
start date of 2021 so it seems afterwards
on budget amazing the new arena won't come in at $1.2Billion but way over budget like the Saddle dome was.
why not a new nhl arena lol
It'll be right down the street from this building in about 4 years
💕Wow💙🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Frequently changing the viewpoint makes it very difficult to follow what is going on.
yes!!! i love the rusty building!!! i love having a building that represents how shitty downtown is with its multiple shades of brown 😍

I assembled steel trusses offsite, some weighing as much as 185 000 lbs. So large they required special wide/heavy load permits but ok.
they are already designing a new arena for Calgary, it will be just north of the saddledome
It's mostly brown, just like Canada now.
Giant waste of money.
Wearing masks outside for a ground breaking ceremony. Yeah that sounds about right.
Demolishing that mural was a crime.

Wow, very ugly building, what a mess
Who the F___ would want to live in Canada. ??? Not Me.!!!
Then go live in Tripizdishensk.
Then stay in your little mudhut village, canada doesn't want you either 😂😂
the rest of canada is expensive af, but alberta is currently a great place to live
Canada is the best country in the world.
@@rollingthunderinho Too Cold. The U.S. sucks but Canada is even worse at least our weather is a little more tolerable..
Did they deliberately choose the ugliest design, or was there something worse?
They should’ve went with your design
It’s Calgary, it’s a dump.
@@CtO-nj9uu I did two work "tours" there, instead of South Sudan or Afghanistan. Same thing. No thanks. It's a dump.
not trying to pick fights, but what exactly about the design is bad?
@@hybbfr727 Fr imo, it looks awesome.
