This video is about getting closer to The Edge’s sound. Discounting the gear, including the picks is crazy considering what a HUGE part of his sound is actually from his gear, most notably of course, is his use of delay. If the Edge used different amps, guitars, no effects, and the usual picks in the usual way, he wouldn’t sound the same. Great video. Thanks for sharing. I bought the picks a year ago myself and love them. They don’t make be a better player, obviously, but they do contribute to the overall sound I’m creating in just the way I hoped they would.
So here's a little story: I'm from México north border so this past Saturday i went to texas and took a little detour to Mcallen's Hermes music and start looking for a pick that could emulate the edge's sound because they have way more variaty of picks that the ones they have here on my city so i found a package of blue D'addario nylpro 1.4mm picks and boy i hit the jackpot it's not exactly the same grip but the pick has two little set of dimples on the sides and they definitely give that u2 sound, i only used them in accoustic guitar because i haven't got the time of using my electric guitar but even then they give the sound i was looking for
@@NotThatCoolKidfinally got the the time to use my electric guitar and the pick definitely gives the u2 sound but I have to use the edge of the dimples because if the pick goes a little farther on the strings would hit the brand that's on the pick and kind of get stuck but I already got used to it
Sorry, I know you probably mean well, but this is the absolute height of cork-sniffing bullcrap! It's bad enough when players are lead to believe they need a certain guitar, certain type of amp, or particular guitar pedals to sound "good" and/or "like their heroes", but to suggest a particular nylon pick can a make a difference for 98% of players is ridiculous. Perhaps the difference between a very hard pick and a softer one makes a difference to most players' sound, but you know what makes a BIGGER difference for MOST of the players you are addressing... PRACTICE!!! Go work on your technique!! When you have THAT down, THEN perhaps you can start fine tuning your gear. Bottom line... for the vast majority of players watching TH-cam self-help videos like this, a decent budget guitar through any modeling amp (and using any reasonably firm guitar pick) will get them as close as they're playing will get them to the sound they seek. At that point, 90% of the difference is in their technique, not their gear!
Hi, totally understand your point! And must say and maybe because english isnt my first language its a bid hard to lay the nuances, i was really sceptical about the point, but since a lot of forum guys where talking about it i was thinking lets give it a try! And yes technique is also really important and you can get really close with that, totally agree! But i must also it does makes it sound closer to the edge and gives enough difference in the sound. Hope you like my set videos of tommorrow in which I compare a lot of different picks. And to spoil a bit it all comes down to what feels good to you.
I see you point, but this ignores the fact that The Edge himself swears by these picks. If the man himself says they are essential, who are you to say he is wrong? Sure practice is 90% of the battle, but that 10% is not nothing. If your goal is to capture the U2 sound, why shoot yourself in the foot by playing gear the Edge would never play?
Lay off guys. He is only saying that this pick helps in getting The Edge sound. He is not saying that it is the holy grail. Using the dimples on these picks gives you more attack which aids towards that chimey tone.

there is no technique that creates that chimy sound. to get closer to the edges Sound the pick is essential! Keep it up 👍🏻

Nice sounds!
Thnx!
I thought The Edge used HIRCO FLEX 75 picks?
Actually depended a bit around what was availble…
Michael Schenker used that pick that way long before the Edge!
It’s only one component. The other components are his gear, amps, effects, and finally his hands.
It’s a key component. Those licks would not be the same without the textured picks.
@@Skkyyyyyyyyyyy A worn in CT pick does the same….
no way its just the pick lmao
No its not only the pick, but the influence of the pick is really amazing. It really makes the difference!

Try one and hear it for yourself
Now you are being too smart aleck besides this is a technique not just "buy this and you will sound like your idol"
