Cool. They are so beautiful. I really need an outside antenna for mine. I keep saying I am going to do it but have not made it happen. Modern houses are so full of RFI these old radios weren't meant to deal with.
The quality that was built into these old radios was meant to last years! plus the beauty of the wooden cabinet is ideal. This radio has such a classic structure and wonderful sound.
Basically the same radio, but without the presets IIRC. I really need to run a longwire outside, I get way too much RFI in the house from all the electronics and dimmers, etc.
@@socomon69 I will be doing the same for my zenith 5s29 ...18 gauge copper wire..a few glass insulators..and I'll be tuning in the BBC...man these old radios are addictive..very nice radio man..I love it..
My grandfather had a 12s471 that I remember seeing in their old house. I don't know what happened to it after he died & Grandma sold the house in the late 60s.
+socomon69 I believe yours is called the "stars and bars." Basically an updated 9S262 for '39 and hard to find these days. What are your plans for this gem? Is it original or restored?
+ShellacShack I had the electronics restored as it was not working when I bought it. I changed out the grill cloth and cleaned and waxed the wood cabinet. my only plans are for it to keep me company in my home office.
We just picked one of these classics up. The craftsmanship is absolutely beautiful.

they come up on ebay pretty regularly. local amatuer radio clubs also have shows and swap meets where they buy/sell antique radios. also craiglist.
Always loved the old Zeniths with the robot dial.

Amazing radio. I own a 1938 Zenith 9S262. Very similar to yours.
