- These are my final Onyx Glasses.
I feel like I’ve peaked in this design.
I’ve replaced the HDMI converter on the right arm with 3.5mm breakout board.
I’ve made a dedicated HDMI cable just for them which I can include with my Etsy kit so that everyone can make their own glasses!
Basic Etsy kit is now live so grab it if you like!

wow, it looks absolutely incredible and I definitely think I am going to build one1
Awesome job! Congratulations!
Great work! I'll have to purchase this kit as well 😀
Also for those who have prescription glasses you can take an old pair of your prescription glasses and pop out the lenses. Then use the plastic lenses included in the kit and tape it on your prescription lenses. Then you can use a Dremel to sand it down to shape to fit it in the frames
That's what I did to make my pair have prescription lenses. Otherwise I'm pretty sure you can go to a glasses store and ask if they can order custom prescription lenses for the frames
How about adding a pi micro camera in the frame for interactive computer vision applications?
Beautiful!
Looks great! You really refined the design down to something impressive. How visibible is the smaller text on the pi screen like the name of an app for example? My past designs the text is not magnified enough to read without bumping text size up a good bit.
Thanks! The smaller fonts ar bit difficult to read but I’ve simply made the text larger inside the Pi os
also how do i wir the 3.5 mm jack to the rpi?
WHAT THIS IS ABSOULETLY AMAZING!!!!!!! i have a few questions tho,
Can you make it so that it will run a google glass operating system or something similar? i think raspberry pi os sounds like a bit too much and im looking for something simple and easy to use. Also, are you gonna make this wireless at some point? And how much will you sell these for? Also, what input device do you use? Thanks for reading!
Wouldn't silk pla work better fo hinge pieces since its smoother
just a question, can it connect to car rear camera with 3.5mm jack? How can it be displayed? I want to use it on my helmet, thanks
I think it would connect to your camera if it has composite (yellow) plug. You would have to switch some wires in my cable though and add 5V power supply
great work, what's in the etsy kit? or where can i find more information? thanks
You can find the Kit A here:
www.etsy.com/listing/1477119375/
This kit includes all the plastic parts, 2 front lenses, semi-transparent combiner piece and video connector board
Awesome !
Nice video!! Just a quick question, if you wanted to picture a 3d model to simulate virtual stuff in reality, how would you make it for the eye to be able to focus on the 3d object and the background at the same time? I mean, with the screen being that close to the eyes, if you look to the projected object the background looks blurred, and if you look at the background the object looks blurred. I know that in order to picture that object as I want to I would need one screen in front of each eye with different view angles, I just dont know how to make my eyes focus on the 3d object and the background at the same time. There is no need for you to respond, the video was already helpful, thank you!
Hey. It’s really pretty easy. It’s just a matter of distance between the magnifying lense and display. If you put the magnifier further from the screen, image will be projected “further” in the virtual space. You can adjust it in a way that you can clearly see the image and your surroundings.
@@ManolloMancelli I get it, thank you very much man, I really appreciate it
Nice
wow what a great job! am buying an etsy kit right now
edit: where can i buy the display and driver board?
Thanks !
You can buy the display here:

Display comes with driver board
@@ManolloMancelli Hello, Mañolo. Very interested in your project. Unfortunately, in my country there is no access to patreon and I can not pay for sponsorship. Perhaps there is another way to pay for the download of the project? For example bitcoin?
Do not buy the aliexpress version! They don't sell the model in the video, but instead a "newer" model that uses a b type ribbon cable. This cable flips the sides of the contacts instead of having both contacts on the same side, which makes it nearly irreplaceable with a longer cable. This makes it so that you are unable to make the glasses. I do not know if the ebay link sells the right one, but I hope it does.
Did you ever find an alternative or solution?
Hey there! This is amazing and I've just bought the parts to build them myself. However I've noticed that my FLCoS display driver board as a white plastic housing for the included wires, but yours does not. I was wondering if it was necessary to remove it and if so how do I remove it? It would be great if you could make a video on it or just reply to this comment. Thanks in advance!
Hi! It’s required to remove the white connector on the driver board. You can do so by first, cutting out as much plastic as you can with scalpel or modeling knife and then desoldering the remaining pins. You have to be extra careful while doing so because you could scrape off the pins. Alternatively, if you don’t want to risk it, you could cut a small, connector size hole on the side of the board compartment so it would stick out of the glasses
@@ManolloMancelli Thanks!
could you pls make a video about how to do it, i don't really understand it, i'm new to all of this@@ManolloMancelli
Will these glasses be on sale in the near future? I live in Turkey and because of the economy here, AR glasses are very expensive. If you are thinking of selling these glasses, how much would you sell them for?
To be honest, these glasses seem to be the only way I can experience this technology, and I think it looks very nice. But I don't have enough skills to make these glasses so I'm curious about the total price of this glasses with all the parts ready for immediate use if you put it up for sale soon
Hello, it's a pleasure to greet you. I have been watching your videos on TH-cam for some time now. I've seen that you have created augmented reality glasses. Currently, I am pursuing a master's degree in product development engineering, and my thesis is about developing a heads-up display (HUD) for motorcyclists. I would like to hear your opinion on what would be the best optical solution for this project. The goal is to create an affordable device. I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter.
Thank you in advance for your attention.
Best regards.
No attention for monsieur college boi
😢
Hehe
😛
i going to make a project very similar and different to this im going to add a rpi 0 w an im going to controll it with an eeg
Hi I tried to connect on discord but link won’t work, is there another way? I have a great idea for a project with you
Hey. discord.gg/vRYMry5v
How do u fix the mirror effect ?
You can enable mirror flip in the Raspberry settings or you can use “Ultramon” on windows
how to control. it
What computer science languages do you use for this
Mostly English
Thanks so much for this! Once the following questions are answered (if it still sounds worthwhile) I intend to buy your kit
When wearing the glasses, how big or prominent is the display?
How visible are things on the screen? For example, how much do you have to zoom to read plain 12pt font?
Also, does your patreon have files that can be modified in onshape, fusion 360, or similar? I may want to modify it later to add slots for a camera, speakers, and a microphone if the glasses work well enough, but I don't want to get the files if they aren't easily modifiable
Ok, I will have to say this, but even though our guy here made a statement to be careful with blades as he cut himself, I want to put a serious disclaimer that if you’re gonna use a soldering iron pen to melt the plastic on the hinge, DO NOT TOUCH THE METAL TIP, YOU’LL BE SEVERELY BURNT. Saying from experience. I burnt myself with a soldering iron pen last week (as of writing) and it still hurts with a horrible burn mark
Oh yeah. For sure. Be especially careful not to burn yourself when there’s molten plastic on your soldering iron. It will get mixed with your flesh pretty easily
Jesteś polakiem? czuć akcent, hehe. A sam projekt świetny, tylko niestety brak software do okularów.
Very nice uwu
