I lost my African gray 6 months ago Coco was 22 my best friend he was the smartest animal I ever met he lived to entertain his family he loved to talk sing n dance I miss him so much

My african grey can whistle his favorite song. She says everything my grandfather usually says when he talks on the phone when she hears a call. She says goodnight, good morning and hallo. They are so smart
We lost ours at 35 yrs old following a stroke 2 yrs ago. I still fill up thinking about him. It’s hard as he was 10 months old when we got him and always been with us. He was quite a character and a large part of our life. We’ve now got a blue and gold macaw as it wouldn’t have been fair to get another CAG. We will always miss him but he’s always with us in thought
I was amazed when my African Gray Parrot told me to go away when he didn't want to be picked up from where he was playing. One time he was playing with a toy that accidently swung an hit him in the head and he told it to go away. These guys know what they are saying,
I have a 31 year old African Gray named Larry Bird. We just watched the video together. Compared to Alex I think Larry may be a little stupid. He's really bad at algebra, but then again so is my kid. (Damn, Larry just read what I wrote and now he's really pissed off!)

We had an African grey when I was growing up.He learned to say so many words and really sounded like a human.This video was interesting but I would have preferred to hear Alex speak !
You would think considering he didn't live that long ago that they would have more clips.

There are other videos on TH-cam of Alex speaking. A Grey is like a tape recorder with feathers. I had one that spoke in my voice and my wife's voice. I would come into the family room in the morning, walk past his cage and say 'good morning, Rusty', and he would say' 'good morning, Joe', in my voice. When my wife walked past, he would say 'hello', in her voice. When we were obviously getting ready to go somewhere, he would say 'see ya later', or, sometimes, 'see ya later, you old grump'. He would get on my shoulder and cuddle up against my neck at bedtime. He died in 2016 of liver cancer. I really miss him.
@@joelewis7941 Hello Joe yes they speak so clearly.Ours used to say so many things and imitate the sound of running water whenever we turned the tap on. Whenever the dog entered the room she would say 'go and lie ' That made my mum realize how often she said that to the dog and she felt guilty lol !

I had 2 Grey's Bogart and Skeeter they learned words put sentences together amd talked to each other💝💝💝

This video warms my heart. ❤️ I love birds and when I watch them in my backyard, I have seen many signs of interaction and their intelligence is amazing. Gives the term “bird brain” a positive thing to refer to.
Animals can bring us so much joy when we can show them enough care and attention. And other living things can do so much for us without us ever realizing it.

My students love learning about Alex!
I've got a 20yr old male Orange Wing Amazon and he definitely can communicate in small English conversations with complete phrases. I ask him questions and he always tells me accordingly in proper context. He knows what and how's he's communicating it. His words and phrases are clear and numbers into the hundreds. He's extremely intelligent and has a high emotional intelligence as well. Parrots also have their own individual personalities.
It's amazing but not surprising...I've seen so much evidence that African greys and cockatoos seem to learn meaning...and like humans the older they get they seem to understand more and more language......these are intelligent creatures who should not be overlooked but protected....

I've done a lot of research about Alex the African Grey for years now. I had no idea that "Alex" was an acronym. Very cool! He's what got me interested in African Greys in the first place. They're apparently the most intelligent land species in the world, demonstrating complex problem-solving, the ability to describe things that he's never encountered before (for example, he'd never had cake before and when the researchers asked him what it was, he replied "sweet bread"), the ability to recognize new objects and apply the same descriptors to them as objects he had seen before, as well as intellectual curiosity and the desire to ask questions about people and things. He was an exceptional animal who did so much for our understanding of the depth of animal intelligence. Before, it was seen as simple mimicry with no true understanding of what he was saying. Showcasing the breadth of human intelligence increases public empathy and aids in conservation efforts. God bless the women and men like these who have spent their entire lives not only studying these animals, but for genuinely caring about them the way his trainer and eventually, close friend like her.

I had an international studies professor at Indiana university who talked a lot about her African grey parrot. I can’t remember her name ! Know she mentioned Alex the parrot but can’t remember if this is her or not
Our 1st african grey flew off and never find her way home 😭
We got a new one less than a wk later cause the whole family was devastated. That was back in 2018. Our "new" african grey ABOT will be turning 3yrs old this april 😅
So sad :(

Clever Hans’ so called “intelligence” was disproven in 1907 by psychologist Oskar Pfungst, who had shown that the horse was only watching the reactions of his trainer.

They may not have the dexterity and intelligence to play Call of Duty, but there are many studies to show birds can carry out basic problem solving tasks.
@@AnimalWised And even still, you'd have to make a game specifically for birds, because they are obviously built very differently from us. There is also the issue of differing psychology; though birds and apes have similar cognitive abilities, their vastly different evolution has definitely led to the finer details of their psychology being very different-- some kinds of games that us humans find fun, like Call of Duty, may not appeal to a bird mind.

This parrot needed to be taken care of and she didn't do it. "I want to go back" should have been recognized as a sign he was under stress and I'm sure this situation put him under stress repeatedly. His appearance confirms that as he's lost feathers and then died early. These damnable researchers only care about the damn data. Shame on these researchers. We can conclude on our own that these animals are hugely intelligent without some researcher stressing them.

He had a disease that many parrots have & die of. If you look further into his life story you’ll see there was much love & learning between these two.
Alex actually created words for items that didn’t fit the actual name of the item. Very intelligent!
Many cockatoos & greys pluck their feathers because they’re stressed & board & /or may be ill.
Dr P had many birds in her studies of them. Most were at that 5y/o age level.
I hope they meet again someday over Rainbow Bridge.

Seeds possibly. Seeds do that. It will cause hardening of the arteries. They have to have a variety in their diet. Fruits vegetables and very little seed if any.😞

Don't know what they are saying? Pure BS. I had a blue crowned conure(see paulie the movie). Understood 'night night" when he wanted to go to bed. Did not say but understood "thats hot" only took him one time to get that one. Also TLDNR, I was tiling my kitchen floor. Verde was on top of his cage quietly watching. I left a cabinet door open and stood up. Banged my head so hard I almost passed out. Verde just started laughing his tail off. He could be kind of a jerk. Blue Crowned Conure by the way. z
