Eddie Van Halen was once asked "what does it feel like to be the greatest guitarist of all time?" His response, "I don't know, go ask Roy Clark." That is the type of respect the guitar greats had for Roy.

Here is my version. So there is at least some truth in what you say.
There is an Urban Legend about Roy Clark. Don't know if it is true, choose for yourself.
At some point in their life Both Jimi Hedrix and Eddie Van Halen were asked what it is like to be the best guitar player. They said "I don't know go ask ROY CLARK".
I know a guy who was in California in the 80's in a Heavy Metal Band. I asked him.
He said everybody in the music industry knew Roy Clark was amazing.

When watching a classic Roy Clark performance it is very easy to miss how incredibly good he was at just playing the guitar, because he was so entertaining in other ways. I dare say that almost no one achieved the same level of communication, while playing, as Roy Clark did. Then you add in how amazing he was with basically anything with strings on it and you have to concede he was one of the best pickers ever.

I think everyone misses the point with Roy Clark, first and fore most he was an ENTERTAINER, and his phenomenal musicianship and use of humor grew out of his love for making people enjoy themselves, no matter how they may have felt BEFORE he started, they couldn't help but feel better by the time he finished. As for another song to listen to, check out not just Malaquena, but the version he did on "The Odd Couple", as I have seen several versions by him from different shows and everyone is a little different depending on what the show was for, and this one was for pure entertainment as the stars became totally enthralled by his playing,

In the 70's, Roy Clark was a part of the ensemble cast of a country variety show called Hee Haw! It was cancelled very quickly but became the first syndicated TV show that was brought back totally because of viewer mail insisting that the show be put back on the airwaves! It continued for several seasons afterwards and was very successful. Each week, there was a musical guest featured on the show and everyone who was anyone in the country music pantheon at the time eventually appeared on Hee Haw! Roy Clark was seen each week on the show as he co-hosted with Buck Owens, another successful country star at the time. Episodes of Hee Haw are available on TH-cam.

they are still trying to catch up to Roy Clark. What ever you hear he did it first even now. Jimmy Henderson was asked how does it feel to be the greatest guitar player in the world and he answered,"I don't know ask Roy Clark." A few others of great fame had the same answer.

I graduated from high school in 1964. He is a real entertainer extraordinaire! He sounds so much like Johnny Cash who was my country boy husband loved his music. He bought every Johnny Cash album there was.

IMHO, anyone playing any instrument - and who truly LOVES their instrument - should spend a lot of quality time experimenting with it.. Roy is a great example of this!! Don't let the repetitious learning curve inhibit the child in you.
