Palzor Stadium in Gangtok, the biggest and arguably the most famous in the capital of Sikkim, is functional again after a renovation hiatus. The stadium has been open since November 27 after its renovation.
It has been renovated under the Khelo India scheme of the Government of India. Budgeted at around Rs 4.98 crore, the stadium was under renovation to get its old turf changed. The project which was estimated to be completed in three months took a long time due to hindrances owing to heavy rainfall and Covid-19.
As per the report published by Sikkim Chronicle on October 2021, the estimated budget for the upgradation was Rs. 4.98 crore.”
Further, as per Director of Sports Department, Doma Tshering, the work began when the state was reeling under the second wave of Covid. The turf that has been changed is procured from a company Tigerturf based in New Zealand and has 8 years of warranty.
