    I've owned two OB-8s and I love this plugin. I got one of the first pre-midi OB-8s from Manny's in NY and then went on a tour of Europe with it. Since the OB-8 got to Europe later, I was able to rent it for more than I would have been paid to play it. I've owned this plugin since v1 and it's the real deal. Each oscillator drifts independently and I think that's one of the reasons it's so good.

They had so much warmth and character. It seems these new synths are geared towards EDM's or who has the best pianos, orchestral sounds, and others. Thank god for the moogs, and what Dave Smith is doing (I'm really looking at the prophet 6). Other than that, I love that software!😎

    The original sounds came from two Roland Synths, the JX-3P and the Jupiter 850D Series Workstation, as well as the Yamaha DX7.

    • @davedagreat69
      @davedagreat69 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Jason Rose There's no such synth as a Jupiter 850D Series Workstation. It's just called a Jupiter 8. He also used a Moog modular for the bass and an Linndrum for the drums. It's funny that usually it's the analogue sounds that sound the furthest from the original (and the main lead sound isn't quite right here). However, in this song, due to the VST being an analogue emulation, it's the DX marimba sound which is way off. Nowhere near as punchy and dynamic as the actual sound used.

    • @jasonrose7090
      @jasonrose7090 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +davedagreat69
      The actual bass line was recorded with the Roland JX3P, with the PG200. If you watch the video clip you can see the JX3P with the PG200, the Jupiter 8 and the DX7. Like you said the marimba timbre was produced by the DX7.
      The bass sound used is a preset sound from the JX3P. The Eurythmics used the JX3P''s Synth sounds in their smash hit 'Sweet Dreams'.
      I'm selling my Roland JX3P with the PG200 programmer in Sydney Australia, if anyone's interested!

    • @jasonrose7090
      @jasonrose7090 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +davedagreat69 As for no such Synth as the Jupiter 850D. I knew there was the original Jupiter 8, but I assumed it was the 850D model, simply because I have the VST Instrument with all of the Jupiter 8 sounds, and the VST model is titled - Roland Jupiter 850D.
      Maybe because of copyright, the developers of the VST had to use a different title for the VST instrument version of the Jupiter 8.
      In saying that, I do own an original JX3P with the PG200 programmer, and I know for a fact the bass timbre used in the original Axel F recording was recording using this Synth. (Watch the video and pause the frame).

    • @davedagreat69
      @davedagreat69 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, ok. I didn't realise you were going from the VST library. I have OPX Pro 2 too. Will have to check it out. You may be right about the bass. I know he had a Moog modular available, he may not have used it on this track though.

    • @jasonrose7090
      @jasonrose7090 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I watched a clip from this dude who was playing back a pre-recorded version of Axel F, whilst playing along with it on a Roland D-50. This guy was a fraud because I know the sounds very well on the Roland D-50, back in the days when I was a keyboard salesman for a Roland reseller years ago, and there is no way the pre-recorded version that he claimed to be his own recording, was recorded with the D-50 simply because the sounds in the pre-recording were identical to the sounds off the original recording.
      However the obvious giveaway was the fact that he wasn't even playing all the correct notes from the recording!
      I'll try and find the video and send you the clip to watch.

      Monkey see, monkey do. You people who claim to categorically "hate VST plugs" (softsynth haters) are easily some of the most obnoxious people in the world. Most of you really don't know what the fuck you're talking about. You just want to sound like an elitist about something which the average person could never be bothered to care about. Actually think about that for a few seconds.

      +seeyouintheeighties What is the logic in hating something simply because of the container format?

    • @esoteric6178
      @esoteric6178 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      seeyouintheeighties I own several synth. Analog and digital hardware. The truth really is this. Analog just sounds better of the bat. During the mixing and mastering phase of production analog recordings require very little post processing in order to sit well within a mix. As far as hardware digital synth s they typically also sound much better than soft synth primarily because some guy who gets his hands on one cant upload a piece of hardware to the internet to be torrented , posted to Usenet , google drive etc. This means that the companies behind the hardware digital synth are far less at risk of losing money due to piracy. This means more money for better coders, better engineers and at least a few industry leading musicians , sound designers , mix engineers to evaluate the sound engine at its various levels of development to ensure that the sound produced by the engine in its various stages development are the best it can be. Softsynths are typically pirated within a couple weeks of their release which means each person who chooses to download a copy for free steals money from the developers who created it. The resources and time required to accurately model an analog synth or any other iconic synth is just not there as it is for hardware. There are exceptions to this. For instance. Native Instruments Reaktor architecture is about as close to analog as software can get. For example. Compare the oscillators and filter of the Reaktor instrument Monark to the mini Moog. I'd bet that even the most seasoned sound engineer would be hard pressed to differentiate between the two in a blind test. There are other factors such as CPU load and RAM limitations which prevent many people from being able to smoothly run highly accurate analog modeling synth s. You have to have a beast of a computer to use one of the more deeply programmed poly synth patches in Softsynths like U-He recently released s mono analog synth called Repro which is incredibly rich and has a very warm convincing analog sound. Since a all a hardware digital synth has to process is its sound its able to devote 100 perecent of its resources to producing the sound from its engine. If a computer in the conventional sense , I'm not talking embedded pc. just your run of the mill desktop or laptop was given the multiple tiers of tasks to produce sound like that of which comes from say the Virus TI 2 even a high end desktop would struggle to perform with out skips and glitches from disk reead failures and more. Beyond quality of sound alone many of us., those of us who are actually trained musicians who took the time to master an instrument like the piano will always prefer the feel of having instant access to the controls of a synth. One can be far more musically expressive with little ease with a hardware instrument. It is incredibly painstaking to infuse a sense of organic human musicality and expressivity from within a piano roll. It would just be a big fat pain in the ads to go back and manually adjust every midi parameter and expression control from within a DAW alone. You can get close, but no cigar.lol. To sum it up it just about all boils down to ease and speed of workflow and the sheer pleasure of playing an actual instrument as opposed to endless clicks and drags of a mouse. Not only that but there is a certain satisfaction one has when they walk into their studio and see it filled with proper gear. If you were a vocalist or a musician who would you be more likely to pay to record, produce and master a track for you. The guy with 25k + in gear lining his walls or a the kid sitting in his dirty bedroom pecking away on his shitty laptop trying to mix with his shirty beats headphones. Whoever thought beats by dre headphones were a sound choice for creating s great sounding track was either entirely ignorant to the process or they simply dont give a fuck as long as people buy them. So tip number one. If you are using Beats headphones to produce for anything but referencing .. Stop it. Stop it now. There are in ear monitors for as little as $50 which will outshine the performance and accuracy of any $300 beats by shithead headphones any day of the week.
      All that being said. Digital products have a flavor all their own and in many cases are preferred by professionals and in many instances are the better choice. Especially when it comes to mastering gear. If and when you can afford it any producer worth a shit will have at least one good hardware compressor. You just cant push a signal inthe digital realm like you can with hardware. If you want the best of both worlds invest ina quality channel strip module. You don't need a mastering chain six miles long to do the job right.

      It's not about hating it or not, it's all about the sound it makes. If you like the sound that's all that matters, not how that sound is produced....

    If you gonna use for this song, with this vsti, the electro drumkit of a psr-s670, you will get THAT authentic "Harold Faltermeyer style" drums sound that is needed for THE original sound of the song "Axel-F"! So your performance lacks (for me) of the sound of the psr-s670's electro drumkit as drumset to use with the opx-pro II that you already have. So, opx-pro II with psr-s670= fully 80's sound (if you use the FAMOUS expansion pack of the opx-pro II).You may also complete the soundset with some Arturia's and some Native Instruments' synths and some Kontakt libraries (use also the Korg legacy M1 vsti and the SQ8-L vsti as synths if you want to go 90's into the sound (in that case the psr-s670 is needed for its House or 909 drumkits (as you like))).

      +nicholas k If you purchase the original sheet music, it's written in the key of F#. However the recording is in F major.
      It is possible to play this with both hands (Bass - left hand, Melody - right hand) without having to record both parts separately.
      Just a little practice and you can master it.
