- In this video you will learn how to draw cute realistic insects using finline ink pens. You will learn my favorite techniques on how to draw a cute realistic ladybug, a butterfly, a bumblebee, a caterpillar, a cicada, and a jewel beetle. With these drawing tips you will be able to create your own insect designs, and come up with your own patterns for insects bodies and wings. Whether you want to draw cute little bugs on your botanical drawings, or just learn how to draw insects with pencil and pen, this video is for you! You will learn drawing techniques that you can apply on all your realistic drawings as well. If you want to learn how to draw bugs and insects, follow along as I narrate each step, offering tips and techniques to bring your beautiful drawings to life. All you need to follow this tutorial is drawing paper (I'm using bristol paper in this video), a sketching pencil (I'm using an HB mechanical pencil) and fineline ink pens (I'm using 003, 005 and 01 fineliners). That’s beautiful! I like drawing bugs. At the moment I’m working on a set of bugs on wooden slices with pyrography instead of ink, but ink always stays one of my favorite art mediums.

These are so awesome! I do insects myself in either colored pencil with ink or watercolor with ink and this helps a lot to see exactly how to shade and achieve certain effects. Your channel is criminally underrated.

Awesome tutorial, just so you know, caterpillars are immature butterflies or moths... they spend time growing and then transform into them.

Thank you for this video. I really love your process and that you are consistent. Even thought these are fast, they seem attainable. Do you have full videos on Skillshare? Also, when you do the hatching lines, are you using a 005 (heavily used, so the lines are faint)?
Glad you like the process! I do have some classes on Skillshare that are longer and more detailed, but not of this specific drawing. I've been thinking about sharing a long, follow along video with the real time process. Would that help? Each insect took me about an hour so I could post each one separately. And yes, the pen I use the most is the 005! I have some new ones for the darker spots and old, used ones for the hatching. Sometimes I use an old 003 for really light shading too. :)

I can appreciate that and am wondering if there's a way to create full length and shortened versions of some videos that you already have footage for so that your followers can choose? I'm guessing that not everyone (like me) wants to see the process / how's / when's and why's of every video. You, as the artist and content creator, get to be selective.
