I paused and went back but the thing that was difficult was seeing the pencil work while in motion. The camera didn't really pick the pencil lines up very well so it was difficult to see HOW the flower was being constructed before inking.
@@aurorajohansenwardigo Thank you for the feedback, I noticed that too when I went to edit :( I'm gonna use a darker pencil from now on and I also upgraded my camera, so the next ones should be better! :)
The angle and the distance of the camera is not enough for learning. And a longer video is quite better. For the ones who really want to learn drawing , videos must be like real life . With the rhythm of life :)
This is a real tutorial with great tips for begginers. Usually, people call it tutorial, but it only shows them drawing and shading with no explanations on how to achieve those results. This was great (specially the tip about the excess ink on new pens, so helpful!!!
Excellent tutorial. Branching into botanicals and just found your channel. I prefer pen and/ or graphite. These flowers were great and just what I'm looking for. Please do more botanicals! I will post my work on Instagram using the information you provided. Thanks!!!
This was a wonderful lesson, thank you, you are very talented, I am an adult beginner, I enjoyed this very much, I was able to learn to draw flowers, thank you again
Thank you so much for this video! In the beginning it was really hard to see what you're drawing because of the lighting and camera angle. Still, it really helps! ❤
Love, love, love this tutorial. Best I've found after years of searching on YT! Yes, it IS a little bit fast, but we have pause and replay, right?! Love your humour too. Thanks so much for your channel and expertise - new subbie here, long time old artist, still learning. Catching up with your more recent posts :)
I definitely struggled with the sunflower. Could you do a step by step sunflower video?love the finish result but a bit too fast and the starter sketch was too light.
Love every moment . Love your style.... It would be nice to watch you create the strokes and curves. and shading slower . Your teaching and tips are fab. Thanks.
You are so talented with the pen and ink drawing but for a beginner I was getting dizzy trying to follow the lily. I so wanted to get the direction right but I couldn't determine which petal you were doing once you started spinning the drawing. I totally know that you need to move the paper to get the angles right but maybe you can think about it and come up with a way to solve that issue for the viewer. So much to learn from you.
Can you explain more about how to shade on petals, according to the curves in the petal? The lily, for example, has curves where the petal DIPS and RISES, and shading according to that feels kinda confusing.
I'm gonna be honest with you, the star of the video is the shading! Very nice and effective technique you explained it very well, but I was lost in the sketching, I couldn't see and no clear directions how to start and do them so I couldn't follow I would very much like to see you do other flowers .. they look very cool
This is a great feedback, I'm gonna try to make the sketch part more visible and easy to follow! Thank you so much fow watching and I will soon have more flower videos :)
I love your videos so much! Thank you for showing your technique. I have worked my way through each of these flowers and I find that my pen shading is way too dark. No matter how 'lightly' I think I'm making my strokes, they just look so dark afterwards... still cool and I can see the light and very dark, but they are no where as light as yours. Do you have any tips for making lighter strokes? Should I just use all old pens? lol
Omg this is the sweetest message, thank you so much for sharing you feedback! And about the drawing ending up too dark, it used to happen to me a lot as well! To me, the best way to control the amount of ink coming out of your pen is working with a very thin tip (lately I'm working more with a 003, the drawings get super delicate with it), and also tilt your pen on an angle when you are hatching so it releases less ink. It really takes a bit of practice and getting familiar with each one of your pens. Each pen will feel and work differently because they will all have a different amount of ink and they change through time, so I do like to do a little warm up on a side paper to get used to the pen I'm working with each time. The old pen trick works well too, it's an easier route, but if you want to really be in control of the situation (haha) you can practice creating different effects with the same pen, until you are happy with how dark or light the result looks. It takes practice, but I wanted to let you know it's possible to do whatever you want with the same pen. I hope this helps :)
The thoroughness of what you say was very good & captured me to SUB. Ink is my favorite drawing medium, although I use fountain & nib pens because I feel the lines have more character (IMHO). Thank you for a very enjoyable video. Suggestions, shading plant stems & tree branches might make this a 1, 2 combo.
I love this and want more. I am really working on my line work and it definitely helps to watch where the lines go (for botanicals) and how to create the highlights and shadows. I've watched your Skillshare classes as well. I'll be sharing this video with a private FB group I run - helping others with a daily pen practice. So thank you...and yes, more please. 🙂
I can tell you that although English is not my language, I can follow you very well. Even better, with your instructions I finally dare to play with shadows. Thanks
Oh this made me so happy!! English is not my first language either, so I know the feeling! Thanks for watching and for the kind words, it means so much to me :)
Just found your channel. Your instruction may be fast, but I stop the video often anyway, cause I draw watching it. I find it very, very informative. Your flowers are beautiful!
Hi friends! Quick question: did this tutorial run a little too fast? Let me know if I should slow down with the instructions. Thanks!!
I just paused and went back if I needed to... It was perfect.

Just a bit, older folks like me don't hear as fast as we did when younger. You can laugh or smile at that if you wish. More comment separately.

If you could start out sketching a bit darker before you start with the marker
Yes! I’ll keep this in mind for the next videos :)
Great, but difficult to se the pencil lines...
Thank you for the feedback, i’ll keep this in mind for future videos!
I love them all. Definately my style.
So glad you like it! Thanks for watching :)
Fantastic tutorial, lovely teacher ;-)
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
I had a really hard time seeing anything because the of lighting.
I know, I'm sorry about that! I've been using a new pecil for the newer videos so it's easier to see! :)
I'm trying to improve my floral on leather and your videos are awesome. I learned some things and thankyou
I loved your style of shading. My one ‘complaint’ is that there are not enough flowers! Very inspirational, thank you.
Aw ur so sweet, thank you so much! I’m doing another botanical ink drawing tutorial soon :)
Fantastic x
Thanks!!
Yes. Too fast sometimes. Pencil work is invisible. Finished drawings are spectacular!
😍
I enjoyed, but it was difficult to see the light sketch when you first start drawing
True!! I'm working with a darker pencil now and a better overhead camera so its better to see the first sketches, thank you for the feedback!
Thanks!! As I told you on IG, you give me breath!
Omg this is so sweet!! Thank you so much for the support! :D
Cannot see the drawing
I can't see whats going on on the paper. The pencil is too light
Very hard to see the initial stages of setting up the flower which is the most important. It stopped me from wanting to go further.
This is not exactly done with ink as I don t see here dip pens. Very nice though, nicely done :)
It’s done with fineliners! So ink pens, but yeah not dip pens 😊
@@gio_vescovi Right. Thank you.

hiiiii!
I draw this with one ballpoint pen for $2. Liners are a tool for hipsters
