INS Vikramaditya is almost 35 years old. Within next decade it is supposed to be decommissioned. So the Navy is planning planning on appropriate time to replace the aging carrier as it had taken nearly a decade to built the previous one. On the other hand the Air force is lagging behind on replacing the aging squadrons.
Also not to mention, our airforce's average age is 32.5 years , France in 40+ US - 29.5 and 34 for active personnels So yeah that's ofcourse far from any issue

INS Vikramaditya is almost 35 years old. Within next decade it is supposed to be decommissioned. So the Navy is planning planning on appropriate time to replace the aging carrier as it had taken nearly a decade to built the previous one. On the other hand the Air force is lagging behind on replacing the aging squadrons.
It won't be retired but will go for maintainance as it's still one of the best in the world.

The 11 US Aircraft carriers does not even include the increasing number of US lightning carriers carrying F35B jets and which are also considered more capable than any Chinese aircraft carriers.

They are retiring it because its nuclear reactor will be coming to end of life... it will be very expensive to replace a new reactor, you basically need to dismantle the ship and assemble it again...
Btw, nuclear reactor technology is highly guarded secret. The americans will not trust Indians with that expecially India still maintain close ties with Russia.
Only very close allies like UK and Australia can enjoy such privilege... forget about Aircraft carriers... India cant even procure F-35 Stealth fighter from US unlike rest of US allies... this is the price you pay for your Russian friendship....
