  • L'hymne a l'amour was written in 1949, the music was composed by Marguerite Mannot and the lyrics were by Édith Piaf. Édith wrote the words for the French boxer Marcel Cerdan who was the love of her life. Piaf premiered it in New York in September 1949. On October 27, Marcel Cerdan died in a plane crash as he was on his way to New York, visiting Piaf. She was devastated. The song was first recorded on May 1950.
