    I would like to suggest excavating the hillside at the back of the cottage at least 10' from the back wall. Use the excavated material to raise your street facing yard as you discussed in the video. Then I suggest building a berm and swale all along the top of the excavation to direct surface water coming down off the fields away from the cottage. Save that front door. It is beautiful :)

    Made me quite sad to see this poor house, reminded me of my mothers childhood home near to Newry, now derelict and falling down , only three rooms in total and twelve children grew up there in relative poverty. When you look at this house see the life that passed through it and hope that it once again provides love warmth and comfort to future generations. Lovely to see it being saved.

      You _think_ 14 people in three rooms is “love and warmth”? You need to buy a book!

    • @Justfreeloading
      @Justfreeloading ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@JulieWallis1963I guess love and warmth are different to different people, there were 8 of us in 4 rooms, we have a lot of fond memories, too bad everyone doesn't feel that, but I guess it's all how your raised.

      I understand exactly how you feel. I spent a lot of my early life growing up on my grandparents and great-grandparents farm house. Located in North East Pennsylvania. After 7 generations, the last one has let everything go to hell. My grandmother used to scrub the hard wood floors, starch the lace curtains, and was a beautiful, warm, loving home.

    Native hedgerow mix would be much more in tune with the surrounding environment Adrian. Protrays similar autumnal colours to the beech and much better for biodiversity. A mix of Hawthorn, Holly, Rowan, downy Birch and Sessile oak would be a nice hedgerow mix. It would be a haven for small birds. You are entitled to 100 free trees in the native hedgerow mix with your local dairy co-op too Adrian. Fill out the Google form and they land a few weeks later. Keep up the good work, lovely project to be at 👍🏻

(Did you see the frog jumping out of picture at the start of video)Plants like Holly, Rose, Whitethorn, guilder rose , spindle and hazel would be beautiful. Keep the cottage and its little garden nestled into the countryside. And the native hedge would help out the farms environmental schemes if your in any of them
