Jamaica’s two major political parties are gearing up for a spirited campaign ahead of the next general elections, constitutionally due by September.
In their New Year’s messages, Prime Minister Andrew Holness of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) highlighted achievements like record low unemployment, reduced murders, increased social investments, and a doubled minimum wage. He acknowledged challenges such as rising living costs and business difficulties on the island.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Mark Golding of the People’s National Party (PNP) outlined his vision for a better Jamaica. He pledged to tackle corruption, reduce crime, improve healthcare, and champion the rights of all Jamaicans.
