So I’ve been obsessed with Magpie Games for a while now because they make two of my favorite rpg’s. Masks is a game about being dramatic teen superheroes, it perfectly captures the feel of Teen Titans or Young Justice. Urban Shadows is about navigating the politics of a supernatural hidden world, and also being hot. I genuinely love these games so much, I want more people to know about them, and because they’re so good I have a lot of faith in the Avatar game.
Any moments I missed? Feel free to post them here. Is it Thursday yet?
FLANDO HELL YEAH
TH-cam crowd love us some Flando
Thank you flando
Awesome as always Flando. Thank you.
Bruh it’s been ten minutes you are a madman
*Dorian pretends to be a waiter*
*Me remembering Fjords expert bus boy blending in*
"Oh I've seen this one its a classic*
What are you talking about? It's brand new.
"I have the towel I am the waiter" is exactly what a deception check of 7 sounds like.
Compared to the sound effect of a Nat 20 at disadvantage;
"Mother."
Has the same vibes as I AM THE COOK from earlier in the series.
Didn't get fired from his cover job tho ;)
Oddly, its also what a Nat 20 Deception check sounds like.
Dariax [approaches random goddess statue]: “Hey. Come here often?”
1:20:00 Liam knows that if you mess up an interaction with a kid next time you see them they're sneak attacking you with a vestige of divergence.
But is it really messing it up if we remember it as a story beat several years later? 🤔 Well I guess if he didn't mess up the encounter, at least he messed up the kid? Wait, that doesn't sound like a bright side...
@@Pingviinimursu The player didn't mess up. But the character did.
@@DaDunge Well put :)
Always remember, no matter how bad you fuck up, you’ve never fucked up as bad as Vax just straight up decking a kid who just wanted an autograph and then came back later Like That. (I love you Vax but Wow)
more like Liam is a the parent of a teenaged daughter and knows how to talk to them
“..Residuum sticking out of your shoulder”
Liam immediately:
“Oh no.”
I'm just sitting here going PULL. OUT. THE NEEDLE.
I love that during the fight on one turn, Dariax sprouted four god-gifted wings, gained a flying speed of 90 ft, saved Opal, set two constructs on fire (killing one), and yet still afterwards his number one priority was to be Dorian's hype man. I love that dwarf so much
i admit that I was not a fan of his in the begining, it's been a slow burn getting to tolerate and then like him, BUT this episode he was def MVP. excellent rp by Matt
You gotta ship it
Now I officially also tripped over their names. I've read this comment before I was at that moment in the episode and was then confused that it was Dariax and not Dorian with the wings.
He loves Dorian so much!
@@youtubey9887 "excellent rp by matt" and none of us expected anything different LOL. I love how he rolls with the, well, rolls lol. hes taken the bad rolls and made it a personality. amazing
That map Aabria broke out is absolutely stunning, dear lord.
imagine if they'd decided the REALLY need to get the rune back to Gilmore and went north again
This comment, and especially her insanely awesome map, deserves more love!! Just the static look of that map was stunning, but then the square floated and spun, and it had lights inside, and it broke apart to form platforms for an aerial battle. Seriously, props to Aabria and/or whoever helped to make that happen!
@@chrismjkelly Lol Aabria didn't make it, they had a pro do it. You can find out more on their site.
@@Scott-ql2kx Yep! I saw that. I would meet you halfway and say that she might have had a hand in the original concept of what to make as the DM! That or she asked for a mystery map and then came up with a story for it haha. We love to see the collaboration
THE CUUUUBE
When Aabria unveils the thing, Matt's reaction is what gets me.
He set up countless battlefields like this, even with small details like glowing lava or the fog machine that one time.
I'm really happy he gets to enjoy one of these from a player's perspective for once. ^^
Matt gave wings to so many of his PCs in the history of Critical Role, seeing Aabria give him a set was beautifully fit.
It's also a feature of the divine soul sorcerer later so it even fits thematically.
Spoilers
Too bad he loses them
@@barryallen2240 doesn't really seem like a spoiler since when he gets them he's told that they last a minute. It's like saying haste ending is a spoiler.
I love it when Liam goes into full Dad mode with any of his characters, it's just adorable
Omg when he comforted Dorian and told him "you did the best you could" it was such a Dad moment. My heart melted.
Everytine any of his characters teaches tricks, braids hair, it just so genuine. When it is towards a fellow player, you just know there is a little bit of Liam genuine love for his friends in that moment too.
liam: we're asking so many questions-
aabria, living the overprepared gm life, overjoyed to be giving exposition she'd otherwise not get to do: no, you're good!

Can you imagine how horrifying sleep paralysis would be in the fucking Feywild?!
I'm working on a faerie novel and now I'm gonna need to write this in. Somehow. In the must fucked up of ways. I need fae sleep paralysis.
Back in the early 1980s not everyone was sold on the idea of non-Platonic d10s, so some games came with 20-sided 'd10' dice, which went 1-10 twice. I'm beginning to think someone gave Matt one of those for this campaign.
This is almost the only thing that makes sense!
I’ve watched a short campaign where they gave the 1-10 twice D20 die to one of the players who didn’t realize until like 10 hours of play time. It was hilarious.
The Adventure Zone board game made D20’s that have a crit success, a crit fail, and then 1-6 three times… I’ve always joked that I wanted to give that dice to a DM, or anyone that forgot their dice… maybe that’s happening?
For RP purposes everytime he rolls 16-19 he says "3".
@@robertportersc i mean, he is doing that for sure. Only one person in the world of D&D shows can roll that bad.
I have this idea in my head that gods use words to talk to Dariax, but not Clay, simply because they know Dariax would be too dang dense to get anything other than direct speech, lol
A conversation between Caduceus & Dariax would be just…wow.
I guess maybe the gods sound like whatever you expect them to, since it all kinda happens at a spiritual level?
@@pedroscoponi4905 nah DnD gods are actual physical beings too. you can even kill them, DM and Dice allowing. The Wildmother has just decided this group is denser than Clay.
@@bluefootwalking I just imagined it, and just had to laugh
@@bluefootwalking I read this comment in Caduceus' voice lol
Robbie is such a great roleplayer. I love that his demeanor has gotten darker the more he comes in contact with the 👑. I feel like Sam, Liam and Robbie would make some magical moments!!!!
Yesterday, I learned he was Hubert in Fire Emblem Three Houses so he definitely can handle creepy!
Robbie would be the one person I would like to see again in season 3.
I wish and hope that they keep both Robbie and Aimee.
Robbie is probably my favourite, but holy crap Opal has some moments that can't be beat.
"...wHat hᴱaD NₐncY?" 🥴
@@zarahandrahilde9554 I totally agree, I would love to see them in some form on the next Critical Role campaign! 🥺
Robbie needs to be a permanent fixture in the CR cast. Period.
“I’m an Assasin!!”.. I love Neera so much. She is the cutest with her toe beans and claws 🥰
@J.D. West That’s awesome!! She sounds amazing!!
Absolutely loved Neera, both times I watched this (Live and the following tuesday).
Also the name of a cute and funny Wild Mage companion in Baldur's Gate EE... wonder if it's a conscious wink
I love that Matt invented an entire world and when given the opportunity to live in it instead of choosing to be some godly awesome powerful person he said "No, I think I'll be Dwarvish Andy Dwyer"
I think I get why he chose to play a himbo that could rival Grog's stupidity. It prevents him from using any knowledge he has about the world he built to metagame. He also chose the perfect class/subclass to be a great support player without needing high wisdom or intelligence to cast spells. He did all that to make sure that everyone else has a chance to shine and to take pressure off of Aabria. It's considerate DM thinking without the rules lawyering or making an OP build that normally takes place when forever DMs sit on the other side of the table. He is the perfect case study for good player and GM etiquette.
To be fair, his abilities are awesome, he's just rolling like complete shit
But hey, sometimes even gods, may seek a vacation
D is a way better person than Andy Dwyer
@@TitoMcFadden I think you’re spot on. Mostly cuz I do the same thing with my group when I get to be a player
Omg Matt saying “do I trust them?” And the whole table just sitting in silence for a second with no clue what he meant. He never did break them of that “insight check!” habit huh?
I could swear I saw him bristle when sacred flame's "fire part" was referenced up until the "holy damage" part was mentioned.
@@JB-xl2jc - IDK about bristle, he didn't really look hostile, (1:13:27) but yeah took him out of character preparing to have to correct the DM that there is no fire damage, it's purely radiant.
Aabria was probably mixing it up with Flame Strike (4d6 each fire and radiant).
(I think they shot ExU soon after she was a player in D20: The Seven, which had higher level PCs and had at least one case of flame strike on creatures that were vulnerable to fire, so the fire/radiant split was important and memorable there.)
@@JB-xl2jc I mean tbf that could have just been flavor considering the spell is called 'sacred flame'. Like it's literally in the name of the spell, so she could have just been describing it that way as if the flaming part didn't hold any purchase but it was instead the radiant burst of energy that really did the damage. Fire is technically part of the spell visually, just not what causes the damage. Sorry, Ik this was like 7 months ago, just figured it might have just been like a DM description type deal.
@@greyscaleadaven Haha, yeah no worries, it was actually a reference to how in CR2 there are a bunch (probably half a dozen times) of times where Laura or Taliesin tried to melt or burn something with sacred flame and Matt had to explain it wasn't really fire like that. Just joking that he had gotten PTSD
@@JB-xl2jc Oh mb, just saw someone else take it literally so I think I also did the same?? Yeah I do remember something like that now that you mention it thanks for clarifying
“We’re practically mortals” the new “we’re basically gods”
I wonder how long Matt has been thinking about that.
was looking for this comment, bless you
@@zephyrusb.2834 Haha, so was I!
Aabria: Fearne, you see time laid out before you, not like a road, but like an ornate spiderweb speckled with dew. And you know that all you have to do is pluck a single strand to change the entire pattern.
Liam: *stares in Caleb*
And Vax too, he got tangled in the threads first.
1:24:04 Watching Liam & Matt try to keep it together as Ashley squeaks out a little "makin my way" had me dying!
Aimee: Opal is a lot of things, but a homewrecker she is not.
~flashback~
Opal: (Hits on Gilmore who had already mentioned his husband)
Soooo, still technically true because she's constantly barking up the wrong tree?
Would Gilmore really have his home wrecked my anyone?

Have you watched the other campaigns? Infinitely better than this
@@Kaiser8361N Well, I wouldn’t say that, each campaign has its own flavour, campaign 1 feels a bit more traditional, and campaign 2 deals with a lot more of the grey and morality, whereas this lil mini campaign has its own charm even though it’s packing so much story into a mere eight episodes.
Not one campaign is better than the other. Sure, people have their preferred campaign and cast of characters, but that doesn’t mean they’re all not of equal quality.
You are in luck…there is soooo much more
The DM in Matt refuses to let people forget about their bless. I love it! Really hope our guests keep showing up for s3
Matt is doing something rare. Instead of being a complete rules lawyer as DMs-turned-players tend to be, he only ever brings up advantages for his allies so they don't forget. Aabria forgot to call for a concentration check? You can see him notice by the look on his face, but shut up and let her DM.
@@TheKrou exactly! It's a rare but beautiful sight to behold.
I think he got that from Taliesin from C2 cuz he would do that every time lol.

Right? I feel like he would actually be able to keep up with the main cast in campaign 3 as a guest appearance.

You and WereDictionary take inspiration for the sick rhymes!
I've seen people say how these and other content creators have "helped them through" times. I never fully understood until Robbie's "existential crisis and pity party" comment. I've never had anxiety and it's reared its head lately for no known reason and everyone's reaction of empathy and "too real" made a weight lift. It's my turn now, thanks everyone on and making the show for accidentally providing this moment and know that no matter you motivations for what you're doing, you've helped, at the very least, one person today in addition to your motivations. Again, thank you.
"It's my turn now" - that's such a great way of putting it :) Hope things become brighter for you soon
Bruh I 100% agree. Crit role and high rollers both get me through so much. I cried when camp 2 ended and now high rollers second camp is winding down (prob will end near the end of the year but still, it's been a 3 year camp!) And I just feel so lost. But I'm excited to see crit rolls new camp come out AND that mark (high rollers dm- he's played as a guest on cr too) is already got alot of their camp 3 planned.... I just pray these two channels never stop streaming!!!!
Caleb's character development towards the end of M9 helped me in a similar way. The end of the final fight with Trent really gave me an oh-fuck moment, about dealing with trauma. Living vicariously through characters who are so dynamic can really help. I hope your anxiety eases. Try to remember that lots of people are too busy worrying about themselves to pass judgement on what you do. Every time you stutter a bit, or feel self-conscious, try to remember that most people aren't going to remember it.
I'm so glad you had this moment! I've definitely had them too :) I just wanted to say it makes perfect sense you're having anxiety, I mean the world is kinda on fire haha. Its totally reasonable to be feeling anxious while living through a global pandemic! Anyway I hope it reduces a bit for you soon
I would give this another thumbs up, but there's 420 of them... So glad this show has given you that moment and I hope for many more to come.
I love how robbie will close his eyes, and let himself get lost in the story. He has really blown me away on a lot of levels
3:43:12 the only thing that can defeat a halfling: the Natural 2!

Such a good interaction
Seeing Matt’s smile at the “You can certainly try” comment was great! (Around 4:00:10) You can tell how much this game means to all of them but it’s those little moments that he sees others adapt his style that you can see how truly happy it makes him
There were a few great moments in this one where you can see Matt appreciating their wonderful DM haha, mostly in the form of him being the one laughing the longest and loudest when Aabria makes jokes about dm stuff like killing Opal's character for trying to break the rules deliberately haha 2:50:51
I love how much he is loving this. And them teasing him with his future Matt ads are amazing. I'm so so pleased with this beautiful dm! She plays creepy so freaking well too!
I saw that too 😍
I feel for liam so hard right now as the party dad trying to keep his unruly kids in line
I love how Matt is the crazy uncle who could help keep everything in line, but chooses to contribute to the chaos instead.
As someone who plays an absolute chaotic shit-stirrer, I'd argue that they should give Dariax a triple espresso and let him run wild.
But he has the Mom in Dorian who will try to back him up (or at least go find the wine)
It's very polite of Aabria to say 'amazing' every time instead of 'you are all so....so...stupid.'
I think we can all agree that Mathew Mercer and his rolls, and his characters are all a gift to the world.
Truth
Orym giving his speech to Dorian was the most uplifting thing I’ve heard from a person in a while
The Dariax, Orym, and Dorian night watch interactions are some of the best dramatic role playing I've seen.
1:01:25 Can we just take a moment to appreciate how, when Dariax asks if Opal's kidnapper was also a contestant in the pageant in Byroden, Aabria just facepalms, then looks up and silently mouths, "Amazing"? I...freaking...died! 🤣😂🤣😂
I'm 42-ish minutes in and... damn. Pretty sure Aabria just personified depression as a spider goddess and it felt so real there are now actual tears in my eyes. I don't know if I should be impressed by Aabria's acting or mad that she made me feel this way in like 2 minutes...
If only we could roll an insight check against ourselves when those voices pop up, right? Depression is an evil spider goddess.

I feel like the Will Wheaton Curse that he put upon Matt's dice in campaign one, only taking affect when Matt is a player, because MY GOD, them rolls.
thank god its not while hes dm LOL. but he plays the bad rolls off so well
You know I think it might be a general DMs-As-Players curse thing bc as a mostly DM myself the only few times I’ve been a player my rolls Tankeddd
It's only at the CR table too because whenever he plays at the D20 table, he has had some amazing rolls with perfect narrative timing. *SPOILERS* Like the Nat 20 to find the will to live/kill his parachuting, frying pan wielding nemesis ("That fucking halfling!") and absolutely wrecking shit in the final battle of Escape from Bloodkeep or his cathartic and beautifully timed "revenge yeet" in Pirates of Leviathan finale. Either the Wheaton curse is location based or the curse has no power when in the presence of Brennan Lee Mulligan.
I still feel bad that Matt’s rootin’ tootin’ shooter in Undeadwood failed as often as he did. But, as is expected, he always finds a way to justify the story the dice tell.
When I get to be a player, I always use what I call my "role playing dice". I am sure in another world, Wil Wheaton owned them. Matt even mentions he isnt going to ever change these dice... for a same reason 🤣
LMAO Orym being at the bottom of the stairs in the kitchen, just watching Dorian fumble with a lie, and then Robbie/Dorian seeing O and saying "Daaaad!" in a disappointed and embarrassed tone really got me

Omar: FATHER NO! HELP!
Seems even the mighty Omar is scared of something
I admire Aimee's choice to play such an edgy character! It is very brave in a online world that is so quick to judge. It is very very hard to do and she's doing a stellar job of being the gifted sister who feels put upon and ill done. Like a bomb that could go off any moment. It's an interesting sort of grey character, and I looking forward to seeing where her story goes. She's so different to everyone else. Unfortunately there's only one more episode to go, so not sure how much we're gonna get to deep dive. So I just wanted to point that out, her willingness to risk not being liked by the community by not being a goody two shoes. I just hope she gets the chance to bring it back around!
Damon has been brilliant, as has been noted by most everyone. I can understand Matt wanting to play be like the leaf dwarf who pays attention to very little, as ways of ensuring his own knowledge of his world affects nothing. But he's having so much fun and he's doing such a great job of being an goof, he'd give Grog a run for his money. Playing dumb requires a lot of intelligence if you think about it, esp if you want it to come across as funny and not cringe worthy. Travis was truly the OG master at it. The deck of many things anyone? lol. Liam playing a low key character who is the moral center of the group, is a fascinating study. Seldom does he speak, but when he does, everyone listens. Such weight. Very enjoyable. And what can you say about Ashley she is just glorious in whatever form! I love her voice for Fearn. Her whole wolf violence as a contrast to her sweet faun self is quite something!
And last but DEFINTELY not the least, Aabria Iyengar! What wonderful energy she brings to the show. An inspired choice! Iyengar is an Indian surname btw. Wonder what the story is there! Let's celebrate her while we can! For a long while I hoped that they'd bring TJ storm to do a show, cause he is brilliant. But I can see why Aabria would be the top choice. Thanks Aabria, this has been amazing.
Cheers Critters! love ya all! All the way from India. I've been around since Campaign 1 ep 30 or so! it's been a while and what a journey these guys have taken us on, eh? I envy all of you who are able to go to cons and meet the gang! Lol. Its highly unlikely that I will ever be able to.
Well said.
I believe Aabria's husband is Indian
@@DamianHowl Well he's a lucky man!
Beautifully put!
Fearne's violence is very fitting for a Fey being. Not exactly "casual" violence, but I'm sure she wouldn't see it as unusual to go from calm and soft spoken to 100% fierce, then back again like nothing happened. A lot like Artagan (C1 spoilers..........) wondering what it would be like to strangle Vax.
And this kind of easy violence is typical for some kinds of fey in other mythology, too.
Seems a good fit for Ashley; she has a bloodthirsty streak to her.
41:24 this whole scene from Aabria and Robbie is amazing, but I also love watching Liam’s expressions here. His little smirk, and laugh when she calls Dorian a coward. He’s so into what’s happening
That Aabria's battle map is soo beautiful, oh my god. I never saw something like that, it's amazing.
it was made by Nox (eatenbypotchky on twitter), he is so talented!
That section with Dorian and the internal Spider Queen was rough. For those of you who've never gone through deep depression, that's exactly what it's like
I was thinking to myself "wow that sounds like what my internal monologue always sounds like!"
Yep. That was definitely familiar territory.
“Can you believe it!?”
Omar: *corgi ears pop out revealing there is no bunny but an Omar.* “Dad…please.” *licks Matt’s nose*
*Cross buns plays*
Omar: “My chance!”
Matt: “Don’t roll a one…”
Aabria: “ROLL A ONE!!!”
Robbie is pure gold. Hope we see more from him in later campaigns or one shots.
The man is just talented. He's not afraid to explore complex or ugly emotions and mindsets with his character portrayals. In fact, he goes ALL IN whenever he does. Both him and Mercer voice main characters in Persona 5 and they're both my favorite characters hands down. At first, Matt's portrayal of the super quirky and weird "artiste" Yusuke completely won over my heart and there was no close second. But then came Goro Akechi (played by Robbie) who I despised at first because it seemed like such a forced and fake portrayal.
*SPOILERS*
Pretty soon I would realize that there was a perfectly good reason for that. It WAS all a facade. The real Akechi was full of rage, resentment, and envy. Once the mask came off and he showed the real person behind it, it added so much complexity and depth to both sides of that character and the kid I hated ended up being my favorite character in the entire franchise because of Robbie's guttural and raw performance. I went from wanting him gone to wanting to see more and to truly understand this tortured soul. I don't think anyone else could have pulled that off nearly as well. He plays "slow descent into madness" characters so damn well lol
This comment ages well.
They cause so much chaos they have to be called “The Chaos Crew”. That word is used numerous times in the episodes and is a good description for the characters and the dice rolls
Or 'The Chaotic Ones'.
But as we know, Bananas are a chaotic fruit, so why not call them the Banana Bunch
I'm still all for "The No Brainers"
Chaos Crew is already taken. Not that they, or anyone else for that matter would know. Still, if they used it and became a big deal, they might be visited by a certain Halfling Rouge, Human Monk, and WaterGenasi/Teifling "Cleric".
Shenanigans would ensue.
1:54:30 Dorian: "Can we maybe just for a second stop saying the magic words until we've figured out what they all mean?"
Me: "Clato verata ... uhm ... nec ... gl ... "
watching Aimee and Aabria lovingly sass each other at the table is such a gift
“I roll so bad as a player!” … As a typically ForeverDM™️ I can 100% relate. I’m currently playing a 9 Wisdom Wizard without Perception. He only has a -1 Perception, but functionally I roll between 1 and 7 reliably, and universally when it’s a Perception-check, so he’s functionally blind/deaf. As a character he has just attached himself to the Perceptive Rogue/Bard, has embraced her as his ‘Guide’. Comically he always heads in the 180 degree wrong direction all the time. Like the pixies in Willow.
I feel this I'm playing a barbarian right now (I'm forever dm usually) and I have no bonus to dex or con cause I rolled soooo bad on stats 😅
A scrape after the 4 hour mark Aabria says "you can certainly try" and a little smile appears on Matt's face.
The entire time they were trying to decipher the writing on the giant cube, all I could think of is how they were gleaning the cube of it's information.
All I could think about was the 'ALL the words?' scene in Army of Darkness.
"Did I already use my bonus action?"
"Yeah, you used it to misty step."
"Yeah I sure did, I just didn't know if you remembered."
Savage, Aimee. Savage.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ASHLEY!!!
Aabria - "Let the record show, this is where I decided to kill a character"
God I love her.
54:40 the moment the dice heard the RP and instantly go ‘No yup, that’s a Nat20 all day. Mhmm.’
Ok, the way Matt gets randomly bopping along to maybe the battle music, maybe just the music in his heart, in his chair is just the cutest thing ever lmao
I don't know why, but Aabria saying "the Dutchest of angles" really tickled me.
ExU is the first Critical Role podcast I've ever watched and I'm so sad it's coming to an end! I hope we'll get to see Aimee, Robbie and Aabria pop up in the next campaign, but for now, I'm going to go and start campaign 1 lol
You won’t regret it! I wish I could go back and watch campaign 1 for the first time again 💜
Welcome to the party ^_^
I'm going to throw out maybe an unpopular opinion but I'd recommend starting with campaign 2. Campaign 1 is fine but it's a bit sloooow going IMO.
@@MeemBeen Or start around episode 17, because aside from introducing Kima, the first arc of the stream doesn't really have anything to do with the rest of the story.
This is the first one I’ve been able to sit down and watch too! I’ve seen some clips from the others but every time I sit down to watch them I can’t get into the story. But I was v invested in ExU!! I’d love to see more of all three of them!
Robbie is so good.
Also, is anyone else patiently waiting for Blackwood part 2?! I swear. It's taking forever, and I desperately need to know if Slaughter Grimm becomes the waiter he was meant to be.
Absolutely agree on both points. I feel like the ESO trailer during the break is some little hint that that's coming soon (probably after ExU ends, as an in-between before Campaign 3 starts), but I might be reading too much into things
“Stop singing, we’re gonna get YMCA’d!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣
yeah hahahah, we all knew what she was going for tho
**Village People Intensifies**
im so confused. what did that mean lol
@@pvic6959 a DMCA takedown is when someone has your content struck for copyright infringement, ie. if they sing a copyrighted song, they could get DMCA’d, and their video could be removed or demonetised. In this case, poor thing said YMCA (the band) instead, bc they sound alike. Sorry if this is too much I didn’t know which bit you wanted explained so I did it all
@@tairneanaich I appreciate it! I guess the unintentional pun was lost on me haha
I saw a new episode and it was like "WOOHO...oh no" when I realised it was episode 7 already :(
I just hope to see Aimee and Robie guest on C3 or other one shots later. Love them both
Is this supposed to be a miniseries?
@@pattmahiney I think so. I read people saying it's 8 episodes only but I don't know if it will end this week already. Maybe 10? I don't know.
@@thathiefsandiego what a bummer lol. In that case, I'm hoping for like 15 lmao
@@pattmahiney same :)
I started feeling OK towards it but now I'm loving the fresh take and chill vibes of the whole thing. It's a nice break from the super grand hero things.
Yes has been confirmed to only be 8 episodes
You know, I was wondering why Aabriya wasn’t making any more maps, but then she busted out the map at 1:28:25 and I’m just mind blown. That cube is awesome.
I feel like D&D is one of the only games where everyone can cheer happily and yell, “You did a murder!!”
What on earth! The battle map is absolutely incredible, holy crap!
Would definitely argue it gave Matt a run for his money, lol. Aabria went hard for it.
At least that! Haha
@@ChildishShrimpino Definitely. It would be fun to watch Matt try and beat it. His mini's at the end of Campaign 2 for Lucian were out of this world though.
Definitely top 5 maps in all of CR’s existence
@@astoldbydice1570oh I agree. I'd love to watch the process of building something like this. Looks extremely time consuming.
Darriax is precious and must be protected at all costs. Him and the observer 😂 had me laughing.
It's actually amazing how consistently badly he rolls lol! But the best part is, the rolls match Dariax so well!!
I remember watching an episode from C2 where Matt was rolling nat 20's left and right, I can't believe this is the same man haha
Aabria: You see time, not linear, but like a web--
It's a Jeremy Bearimy!
Fearne was right all along. Time is a weird soup.
Ayyy The Good Place
@@xySuperManxy not to be confused with the time knife.
Gotta love how Opal goes head first into things, bypassing more "conventional" reactions. Get pricked by strange needles? Leave them in there and ignore them for a while. Only to then rush blindly towards whatever shot them. What could possibly go wrong? xD
Like I know that trying to take them out would probably not have worked, but I feel like the first instinct for most people would be to pull the sharp thing out of yourself.
@@cloud_sauce
Idk, whenever I got stabbed I was more concerned with the stabber then the knife in me.
@Daniel Ashar bin Mohd Fraziali * If they were JUST needles, sure. I would agree with you. But Opal could clearly see the needles were a tether for the attacker. You can't sit on that! On this occasion, I have to agree with @Stefana that the correct course of action would have been to attempt to pull the needles out.
from experience, it's VERY accurate to a 19 year old. whether intentional or unintentional, lol
its mostly because shes a new player and i love it lol. in her head there inst a "right" or "wrong" way. its so fun to witness
I love that Dorian became a Windrunner during that fight
My favorite thing is Orym just destroying these massive stone monsters that are like- 5x the size of him
Small but mighty peeps!!❤
Man i cant believe its almost at the end. The bitter sweetness of campaign 3 just around the corner and this awesome mini series coming to an end
Seriously more Undeadwood would've been great.
Seeing Robbie do an interesting move during 3:29:45 and seeing how proud Matt is of him is sweet.
Even in C3 and Kymal he's been pretty creative with his moves and it's great to see his gimmicks and bold choices make such an interesting picture.
40:55
Now this cut me deep... As someone who's struggled with depression and anxiety for most of my life, this felt like someone found a diary with my old worst internal monologue and inserted it in here.
It hurt. Too real.
Matthew with the dating tips “if you don’t shot your shots” I mean yeah, sometimes you just gotta go for it.
lol I shot the shot once and it killed a friendship (She hasnt talked to me in 2 years and I wish id never taken the shot). sometimes you gotta think before you go for it. thats what i learned from this experience
19:22 “… without a second thought.”
Usually without even a first thought…
What honestly worries me the most is Dariax's moments of lucidity.
I have to say that I really REALLY LOVE how Aabria keeps coming up with those cosy-Matt-corner ideas hahahaha XD It's hilarious
I've come back to finish this series and the line "this is why your brother is meant to lead" is so fucking funny having watched C3 and actually meeting the himbo that is Dorian's brother
A thousand years late, but hats off to Matt for commitment to the Aabria Cozy Matt creations, they put huge smiles on my face. Love this crew SO MUCH
That recorder gave me flashbacks to my elementary school music classes, oh my god
It triggered my fight or flight response, no lies.
My parents remember playing “Guess What Song They’re Playing” at our Christmas recitals.
lol why did we all have recorders in elementary school?? is it some sort of huge prank
As someone who loves and plays recorder (if you don't think it's a real instrument, look up team recorder or Lucy Horsch, it will blow your mind), I was caught between delight that Matt was playing recorder, and utter horror at how bad it was.
@@aurorameyer159 Oh a recorder in the right hands is a hauntingly beautiful instrument. A recorder in the hands of a mess of Third Graders…
I love seeing Matt get excited for his fellow players when they do something cool. It's a breath of fresh air from his pokerface DM'ing
It's so fun watching Matt have the opportunity get fully into a character like this. He's such an incredible roleplayer and we only ever get hints of it when he's DMing
“ Them deltoids!” (As he taps his biceps, lol love it)
I think Matt took away Ashley's bad luck-- Fearne has rolled better than any previous A.J. character.
Helps that she has decent stats.
In regards to the cube:
“We are Borg, prepare to be assimilated, resistance is futile”
"Lower your shields and surrender your vessels. Your biological and technological distinctiveness will be added to our own."
As they started reading off the lines I thought of team rocket and the final line would be “Jesse-James”
and here i though the nein were the masters of stumbling into things, this crew clearly beats them in that regard
I think you mean BEAU REGARD - I'll see myself out
@@Shmeat Exactly. There's been continuity errors and way to much to pack into 8 weeks. Although tossing out rules helps.
Gary Gygax called these hopeless characters.
Look you can't beat the fact that the Nein found pieces of a vestige in a pawn shop, that shit made no sense, but magic items can stand the test of time.
@@darkvizardking69 wasn't it just the residuum shards to reforge it? I didn't think it was the sword itself, more like the repair supplies you'd pick up to fix it
"You're blown *by* the wind..." **thinks of Dorian**
Heh
Despite me missing anjali so bad, man i love this whole group. They look like they are having so much fun and Aabria is really doing a great job. Keep it up! I am going to be so sad when this will end. The map was beautiful to say the least😍
AAbria isnt very good. She is just good with imagery bad with most everythign else
@@caseybroderson its understandable if youre not a fan of her style, or if youre not a fan of this series-of-oneshots feeling kind of mini campaign. ive seen a lot of folks talkin about how they dont enjoy how rules have been bent for fitting the story to 8 episodes, or for catering to the new players, focusing the game more on player enjoyment > presenting it as a show. i guess it makes sense that that may be frustrating to watch for experienced players. but shes done a great job within this framework, is enjoyable to watch, and the cast is obviously having a good ol time. sayin aabria is bad at everything except for imagery is honestly just goofy
@@caseybroderson Oof keep chugging that haterade you might just drown!
@@caseybroderson Oh here we go. Let me guess "I want the REAL team, none of these new people are any good, blah blah blah" I've already read these comments before and I find it really obnoxious
this was by far my favorite episode and it didnt have Anjali. wasnt sure that would happen. Thought she brought such great energy and focus but this episode just knocked it out the park. The entire cast was just amazing. Aabria was fantastic!
I'm just gonna say it. This is the coolest map I've ever seen! I'm so freakin glad they didn't return directly to Emon so that we got to see this.
