You said it! I stumbled across his channel a few weeks ago. I was rather stupidly and naively unaware of the Finnish metal scene until recently, and now I can't stop listening to metal from Finland! What a great hard rock scene! What impresses me also are those videos where Euge plays classical music. He has huge range and capabilities. Dude, if you tour in Western Canada, I'm going to try and get front row seats! [and hoping you will put your autograph on my guitar!]
Your playing is amazing Euge. Your passion for JCM800's is going to cause me to spend more money! I have the mini silver jubilee but I'm really digging that JCM800 depth.
Awesome ! The 800s are Marshall's beasts, the best amp ever made. I had a couple before and regret selling them , now I need to get a 2203 because of you 😎🤘
I'd considering changing the bright cap in my dsl20h I could get it as shrill as an 800 but the disk is not as loud as the sc20h and less than half the dollerinos
I might buy the 2203x - been dreaming about it forever I have a JVM410h, a Dual Rectifier, and a Peavey 5150 iii 50 watt Something tells me I will be really happy with it, but they are so expensive now. It cost even more than their flagship model, the JVM410h! Your helping me lean toward buying it :D

Great video as usual! So in my point of view the current reissue is close enough to the original so as there is no need to look for a used one... Thats what I call a proper reissue! Thanks Euge!
Perfect, the comparison i have waited for as i was thinking for some weeks about buying the 2203x as my first JCM 800. Other Videos never had the sound quality for an actual good impression. Thanks alot!

The gear review was awesome and the sounds you dialed in were crushing it ! Stumbled on this by accident and subbing immediately 🎸🎶
I lived in a small town as a kid, so we had to travel a few hours to Dallas to buy any kind of musical item. I bought the No Rest for the wicked cassette and the entire ride home I had my Walkman volume all the way up. It was a great day!
Hi Euge I was 16 when this amp came out in 81 🤟🤟 I'm guessing the 800 is why screaming for vengeance '82 sounded so wiked !! And soon after, Saxons sound as well !!!!🤟🤟
I bought a used 2203x from 2017 a few months ago. Man, it's such a raw visceral experience to play this amp. I totally understand you getting goosebumps! Even if it's not really my sound, it's just so much fun to blast out chords or dial in a perfect Jimi Band of Gypsys tone ... the power is unreal and the looks are totally iconic. And you gotta love the simplicity. 6 knobs are all you need ... oh, and the fx loop is a very welcome addition. Especially because you can switch it off!
Marshall just released a "modded" Jcm800 now and in north America they are taking pre orders. Looks like 3500$ at the moment. Still gonna get the 2203x 😊
Thanks for the comparison. They sound so close especially the reissue and your old 85. Which is a great thing really if you are into these sounds. The ZW feels mor raw and razor like, a tiny bit. Still pretty close. I'd be happy with either of them. You can cover a lot of ground with them.
This is a great demo! Most guitar players and surely people in the audience would not be able to pick which amp is which in a live setting at real volumes. A JCM800 on 5 is HUGE! I think all 3 sounds great, but Euge is an excellent player...he could play any amp and guitar and make it sound great! Well done sir!
i love the faces you make while you're dialing in the tone!🤣thanks for the video. a guy close to me has a mint 83' 2203 800 and bottom with the celestion 80's. I'm definitely considering. cheers!
Really good informative video of three great Marshall amps. Nice and easy to follow without too much techy stuff to confuse you. Great metal sound in standard or drop tuning using only the classic SD-1 Always a great watch - keep ‘em coming Euge 🤘
Great stuff man! It would be interesting to hear you compare the new Victory super sheriff to your Marshalls. I Hope that Musix will get those so you could do that💥
Thank you!! I have a jcm 800 and am currently trying to record it so thank you for showing your mic set up. My jcm doesn’t have enough gain so will check out your pedals.
You need them modded or add an overdrive like boss super overdrive. plus you need effects. Like delay and reverb , chorus. That what gives it the big sound. echo makes the notes carry.
I owned one for 20 years when they came out in the 80s. You're not going to just plug it in and will sound like that. These videos are deceiving. You need pedals to sound like the video.
Euge always get's amps I traditionally have never really liked to sound great.....still seems a tad fizzy. I think I prefer he passive pickups a bit more. The passive pickups with the gain pulled back a little, just to get some of that fizziness out, and I think this amp would sound even better. Would love to hear the clean channel with a strat to hear if this could get into a warm Texas Blues territory. But, over-all this sounds really, really good, Euge. I'm floored at how similar these all sound. I could hear virtually no difference. What a great, informative demo. Thanks for sharing, Euge!

Euge all I can say is freakin wow, you are such a Monster player,I hope more people subscribe to your channel because you should have 1 million subscribers just for your playing.
you should try a Landry LS100 or LS50G3 amp or the lexi even at low volume a world sound then you don't need a loadbox anymore! world amps with a class sound!
I bought my 2203x about 6 months ago after having rectifiers. It sounded great straight away but it was very very bright and had some harsh spikes in the treble range so I used to dial the presence to zero and mids and treble pretty low. I have a nice LP custom and everything else is good so it should sound amazing but it was a bit harsh. I then looked into the cab, yeah it had Chinese T-75 speakers, so after much research and debate between creamback or V30’s I found a set of 8ohm V30’s from 2003 and once I put those in the cab the overall sound from the JCM800 transformed into amazing. I think it’s really important to make sure the speakers and guitar suit the amp also. I’m very happy with it now but it took some time to figure out the speakers. Also I was wondering if running the power out at 8ohm from the amp rather than 16ohm and then into an 8ohm cab makes a difference to the tone. In my opinion its made the amp a lot smoother and there isn’t the harsh tones, I can play it much louder now without those spikes coming into the sound. If you can do a video comparing the 2203 or 2203x running at 16ohm or 8ohm that would be awesome. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Hey Euge What are you using to switch between amps. I've got 5 amps that I'd like to switch from one to the other without changing cables. Thanks for the video!
Back in the day the plexi and Super Leads used to get all the love and the 2203/2204’s - not so much. That said, I’ve been playing 2203s since I was 19 years old (51 now) and they are THE best in my view. The reissue 2203x is also built to the standards of the originals and adds an effects loop. What’s not to love about that? If it’s too bright, you could snip one leg of the bright cap or treble peaker cap running in parallel off the 470K input resistor as many people have with the originals and call it a day!
I‘d love to see you check out the Friedman JEL 20 watt head… Most Friedmans don’t have a brightcap and therefore lack that famous Marshall kerrang - the JEL 20 ist different and very close to the JCM800 with some minor circuit changes taming the unpleasant highs but retaining that kerrang. I guess you would like it. Fantastic sound and freaking loud for 20 watts.
Might be me, but feels like the 85' has a little more bottom end? And quick question, can the preamp tubes on the re-issue not be as high gain rated as the 85' and that can cause the 2203X to have less gain?
A tiny bit. The ’85 is a bit special like those 80s Scandinavian edition 800s: - th-cam.com/video/WVnLqsQiFEo/w-d-xo.html - th-cam.com/video/5I6nTYCEpVs/w-d-xo.html
@@EugeValovirta230V Yeah, those two Scandinavian 800's are jewels man! The tone on those is balls to the walls... Still waiting on Jens Bogren to release a One Knob of the Badboy!! ;) Thanks for the responses Euge, really cool of ya!
You have a great ear for tone. I concur with your conclusions. Right before the Pandemic, a used one was for sale at Guitar Center in U.S for $1300. I almost bought it. Now they are going for $2800 used. WTF. What a missed opportunity. Keep doing these great video's.
Another awesome demo, as usual! For Marshall-ish tones I would love to see you try out either the new Victory VS100 Super Sheriff or maybe even the V4 The Sheriff Guitar Amp to compare with the Bluguitar Amp1!
How does the Warm Audio API style mic pre improve the signal compared to the mic pres on your USB interface? My Audient interface's mic pres are good, or so they say, but I suspect a dedicated mic pre that runs off mains power and has a transformer in it would do a better job. More clarity and bigger balls etc.
That reissue seems to have a tighter low end, more defined, compared to the old one. And less mids ? It's closer to the ZW, but the ZW seems more scooped
"You just need to play better" :-). Yep, that's pretty much it. Fabulous playing, as always....all of them sound absolutely killer good, and super close.
Wish I could find this amp in my local used market... One day... On a separate note, Euge do you find the JVM 410h fx loop extremely noisy compared to most amps? Mine is insanely loud no matter how I set it and I need 2 separate noise gates for behind and Infront to get rid of it.
@@KaddysJamKaveA gate works really well for me on the JVM410H in the one and takes nearly all of the background noise out on OD1&2 orange & red modes with just using two cables on the serial/parallel set with the blend knob rotated almost fully clockwise. It was only moderately better through the other set or in front. I really have to back down the gain if I’m running the Strat, no matter what.
What's your opinion on the Splawn quickrod? Is it voiced as aggressive as a 2203? You got to be my favorite guitarist on TH-cam, bro. Incredible playing.
Thinking of buying 2203X. Was curious if it plays well with a load box? I want authentic marshall JCM800 tube sound but can't always record at deafening volumes.
Euge, I just got my 2203x and suhr IR RL. The tone is underwhelming 😔. I am using emg81s amd boss sd-01 like you and it just feels weak and lacking gain. Did I get a bad one? What should I do?
How loud you have the master volume and preamp volume? Put pre to 10 and master volume until the amp / power tubes starts to roar (should start to happen after 3 - I keep mine usually between 4-6). If that doesn’t work the tubes (pre - power - or both) might be almost finished so I’d take it to a qualified amp tech. I usually take my amps once a year since tube amps needs maintenance like cars 👌.
@@EugeValovirta230V Pre 10 and master at 4. Maybe its the stock IR's in the suhr that suck? I tried loading Ola's hesu cab and some jens bogren IRs on them but something is wrong because they sound all fizzy and distorted
Ok. Try my signature IR ’Valovirtuous’ from Bogren’s Lead & Clean pack. It usually works for everything. Yeah they have that top end hair ’cos they’re kinda mix ready and that high end boost is usually needed especially in dense metal mixes to make guitars cut through. Might sound a bit fizzy alone but they work great in the mix. Just eq the some of the top end out with hi cut if you feel it’s too much 👌.
@@EugeValovirta230V I emailed suhr and they said I need to use a IR converter software and they sent me the download. It works now and I'm going to have an amp take a look at my shop its not the metal monster jcm 800 is supposed to be even with OD, just getting classic rock sounds out of it so maybe the tubes or bias is bad
800 isn’t a high gain amp. It just needs to be punished with a vengeance 😎. When people have played through my rig most of them are surprised that I don’t have more gain but just a basic rock tone. But like they say: it’s all in the hands 💪👌.
I noticed one of them are closer to Kerry King when you chug/Palm Mute , which means one sounds a bit thinner to me. it could be that the EL334s are not broken in yet. best is still the bad boy for attack and depth 1 2203 '85 Scandinavian 2 the 2203 x 3 ZW
I love this video so much!! I ordered this amp new 3 times in the USA through Music and Arts which is the same company with Guitar Center and waited a year total between ordering and Marshall never sent the amp! I ended up cancelling the order and don’t know what to do about that anymore! I guess it’s rare to get a new one in the US? I don’t know.
Very useful video I've been so curious about the 2203X. I think it smokes your original '85 800 one and is slightly better than the ZW one. So overall quite impressed, thank you!
So I tried the Friedman BE-OD and it didn't work out for me. I ended up going back to the Boss SD-1w, which I absolutely love with my JCM800 2204 and SJ 2555x. However, I must say I'm curious about the Friedman Buxom Boost. Am curious if Euge has tried this potentially excellent OD unit. Cheers! 🍺
Yeah they’re completely different pedals Friedman being an amp in the box style preamp and SD-1 being a classic overdrive. I’ve used SD-1 in front of the BE-OD and then into poweramp sometimes 👌.
OK JCM800 2203x for live venue over the 410. What about 4x12 cabinets? New Marshalls have G12T-75 or G12 vintage, Suhr has G12 and Vintage 30, Harley Benton has 4xVintage 30 at a great price.
This guy is literally the guy I dreamed to be as a kid. Amazingly talented, incredible tone. How this guy isn’t a household name I don’t know.

You have a great ear for tone. I concur with your conclusions. Right before the Pandemic, a used one was for sale at Guitar Center in U.S for $1300. I almost bought it. Now they are going for $2800 used. WTF. What a missed opportunity. Keep doing these great video's.
Thanks! Damn. These new ones are 1600€ here in Europe 👌.
Always love your vids on amps bro, instant like
Thanks!
Another awesome demo, as usual! For Marshall-ish tones I would love to see you try out either the new Victory VS100 Super Sheriff or maybe even the V4 The Sheriff Guitar Amp to compare with the Bluguitar Amp1!
Thanks! Noted 😎👌.
Bro,mad respect for you !
goose bumps never sounded so good 10 10 10
How does the Warm Audio API style mic pre improve the signal compared to the mic pres on your USB interface? My Audient interface's mic pres are good, or so they say, but I suspect a dedicated mic pre that runs off mains power and has a transformer in it would do a better job. More clarity and bigger balls etc.
Basically like you said; more clarity, bigger balls & punch 😎💪.
That reissue seems to have a tighter low end, more defined, compared to the old one.
And less mids ?
It's closer to the ZW, but the ZW seems more scooped
To me they were pretty much the same. Minor differences and like we say in the business; does not affect record sales 😎.
This sounds like the entrance theme of an amazing Japanese pro wrestler in the early 90s!!
🕺😎
Great Video:)
Would you use the Effekt loop on the 2203x maybe for delay or does it cuts the Sound to much ?
Thanks! Live for sure 👌.
"You just need to play better" :-). Yep, that's pretty much it. Fabulous playing, as always....all of them sound absolutely killer good, and super close.
😎🤷. Thanks! They do indeed.
Wish I could find this amp in my local used market... One day... On a separate note, Euge do you find the JVM 410h fx loop extremely noisy compared to most amps? Mine is insanely loud no matter how I set it and I need 2 separate noise gates for behind and Infront to get rid of it.
I don’t generally use loops and it’s been a while since I played with that amp and when I did I didn’t use the loop 😎.
@@EugeValovirta230V ok thanks... I'll ask some other owners to see if it's just me... Or a common issue with the JVM.
Never played with one so no idea 😎. Thanks man! Really glad to hear!
Great Video Euge
Thanks for sharing 🤘🎸
Thanks!
JCM 800 IS the best. the elder ones without effects loops especially. I will say...68 through 73 super leads are badass too.
👌💪
How does this amp compare to a triple rectified mesa boogie?
Thinking of buying 2203X. Was curious if it plays well with a load box? I want authentic marshall JCM800 tube sound but can't always record at deafening volumes.
Works great with a great reactive load like any tube amp 👌.
Qué excelente video, muchas gracias maestro!!!!
🙏🤟
Great playing! The song reminds me of "We own the night" - Impelliteri.
Thanks!
Now I‘m sure, I want that amp!
💪🤟👌
Sounds Awesome Euge!
Thanks!
Would you dial in more gain on the SD-1 with passives?
Depends what I want / need. And are they high, low or medium output. With the passives I use I don’t.
Hey Euge! How would you compare the “Bad Boy” to the reissue?
Like this: th-cam.com/video/NtHl_7pEzDI/w-d-xo.html&feature=shareb
I noticed one of them are closer to Kerry King when you chug/Palm Mute , which means one sounds a bit thinner to me. it could be that the EL334s are not broken in yet.
best is still the bad boy for attack and depth
1 2203 '85 Scandinavian
2 the 2203 x
3 ZW
Its the shity 6550 that marshall b1tch slapped zakks name on
🤟
Could you do video with these rifffffffs, but słower. How you play it. Please🙏🙏🙏
The reissue sounds great. A bit more growl than the 80's amp. When are you going to do a Soldano SLO 100 review?!
Yeah! As soon as they send me one 😎.
I had the 4211 split channel reverb
I love this video so much!! I ordered this amp new 3 times in the USA through Music and Arts which is the same company with Guitar Center and waited a year total between ordering and Marshall never sent the amp! I ended up cancelling the order and don’t know what to do about that anymore! I guess it’s rare to get a new one in the US? I don’t know.
Thanks! Oh that sucks.
Very useful video I've been so curious about the 2203X. I think it smokes your original '85 800 one and is slightly better than the ZW one. So overall quite impressed, thank you!
Thanks!👌💪
Add a SPX90 and the classic Zakk tone is unleashed. Amazing amp.
Yes.
Euge, what is your gain (preamp) set to 2203X please? Max? 13:07 Thank you
10 😎💪.
@@EugeValovirta230V Super, thanks 👍
OK JCM800 2203x for live venue over the 410. What about 4x12 cabinets? New Marshalls have G12T-75 or G12 vintage, Suhr has G12 and Vintage 30, Harley Benton has 4xVintage 30 at a great price.
Where is your Zuul, in the loop, or out front?
Everything in front.
Oh Blu guitar is modeling the Bad Boy ? Sweet!
Yes 👌💪.
