I really appreciate your do's and don'ts. As we get older it is more important to be on trend. Nothing worse than seeing someone over 50 wearing a bouffant hairdo, cold shoulder top and tammy fae makeup!!
It’s funny how someone would come here to watch a styling video and complain! Lol If you don’t want to change your look… why are you watching? Lol people are funny ❤️ Great tips!! Thank you!!
For me, trying to follow the trends is like watching a dog chase his own tail. He's never going to catch the dang thing and trying to stay "on trend" is a never ending cycle. I have always embraced a classic style and buy the best basics I can. This does not have to break the bank with options like ebay or consignment stores. I will, however, add a color in a scarf or piece of jewelry or maybe a pair of shoes to stay current. I don't know that I am ever really on trend, but I do know that my clothes are never out of style. This saves me a ton of money in the end, and I always get compliments on my style. However, I do love watching fashion videos like yours to see what is going on in the fashion world. You always look so nice and show women that they do not need to fade away into the background because they have reached a certain age.
Thank you for watching ! And no, there is no reason why we should be irrelevant at a certain age! 50 yr old women today are not the same as 50 yr old women in 1960!
I agree; I'm trying to avoid fast fashion now! I've always loved fashion, though, & Serena is so sweet in the way she encourages us to either stick w/what works or try something new. She's a breath of fresh air in these divided times! 💜
As others have commented, I won't give up my wedge sandals. Mine are all similar to those alternatives you showed from Birkenstock so I never owned those super high wedges. The thing to remember is that some of these items were trends that have gone by the wayside and for the most part were sort of extreme for a classic dresser like me. The nice thing is that I don't have to gut my wardrobe!
I’d like to add, as an older woman, the legs are the last to go so show them as long as you can. There are many shorts lengths to choose from this year.❤
I have always like the cold shoulder and split sleeves. Hope its here to stay with different variations. It's like the bell bottom pants I used to get from Frederick of Hollywood . Therrrre back
Right? She showed a sandle by WalMart in another video, a style I would've passed, but her love of its comfort made me try them & I got a pair the next day. 🥰
Hello, I enjoy watching you. I agree with you on just about everything. I disagree with you only regarding wedge sandals. From what I’ve observed and researched regarding Spring 2023 shoe trends. Wedge sandals have actually made a big comeback this spring. Lots of designers have come out with wedge sandals. Which is such great news. Always nice to have another comfy heal option. I was also grateful to see that ballet flats have made a return. Have a wonderful day.
I agree with most everything you said- I have a few cold shoulder items and whenever I would start to put one on lately- I would be like- no- I don’t think so lol- the only item I have trouble giving up is the handkerchief hemline- I just love it- mostly in dresses that are more dressy- the rest was right on- keep on telling us what you think- I just love you!
Wedges are so good for spring weddings, I bought a clog style and some nice block heel sandals but I think I’ll keep wearing my wedge with certain outfits. Wholly agree with all the other to be classic!
Hi Serena. I agree with most of the list. I usually don't do trends unless I love them so I never did most of these items. Not in to fast fashion. But the shoes that have been "in" for the last couple of years, I don't like at all. The big clunky shoes are so ugly to me and make a pretty outfit look frumpy to me. Those used to be the shoes you wore when you were just going for comfort. Thanks for sharing your list.
Serena, you nailed all of these- thank you! I can't believe (actually, I can) that people would come after you for trying to help update them. I appreciate it! 👍
Thank you for the update on styles & trends that are out. Love cold shoulder tops in the summer time they are cool and go with many things in my wardrobe. Also love a wedge shoe. I do think big holes In jeans are out of style along with those pointed tops.
I am so glad you made this video! I agree fully! I hate distressed jeans and the cold shoulder tops and with back& foot issues I pretty much have to stay in flats or sneakers!😔 can you do a video for people like me that can’t wear anything high heel??
Matching sets like earrings & necklace. No. For bags...seeing a lot of different styles. I'd stay away from floral purses and/or bags that have a lot of exterior pockets.
I agree with everything except wedge sandals. I know myself and I pick styles based on what looks good on me and what I feel comfortable in. I wear nothing boho which is great because when it goes out of style I don’t have to donate the items.
I have 4, 5 cold shoulder tops that I still love. I just bought a cutout dress. I am not buying more even it’s free. I know the cutout dresses will be out of style judging by my cold shoulder tops lol
Hi Serena, I love this type of video! Your suggestions help keep me current. As to the handkerchief hemline, I felt it wasn’t very flattering on me. I had a pair of the extremely high wedges, but they hurt my feet. I’m over them! Ha! This was very interesting! Thanks!
@@StylewithSerena As a PTA, I can attest, they are dangerous. No base of support like the ones with a wider base you show. I can't even walk in my 5 & 6 inch high wedges anymore & wouldn't want to fall from that height. 🤣
I agree with most of these except the wedge sandals. Mine are the low wedges that I've seen many influensers wearing this Spring. I would also add capris to this list..lol.
Capris definitely go in the list! But after I said they were frumpy in a previous video, I got a lot of NASTY comments from Capri-lovers so I left them off this list. Lol

I just can’t with the fringe lol I grew up in the 70s and that last outfit the boathouse style was what I used to wear. I’m not going back but I do love a good bell bottom. Thanks for your tips.
Hi Serena, I do agree with you regarding the trends you discussed. I do love a nice cold shoulder but not as the one you showed a picture of. I have one that is not a deep cut and with spaghetti straps. My blouse looks like a blouse with a nice v neck and 3/4 length sleeves. A woman’s shoulders are very feminine and some think it’s a very sensual part of a woman’s body… I read that. Great video and congratulations on your growth. Your YT channel is fantastic. ✨🌼
Hi if you have no hips like me the shark bite / handkerchief top works great it not a fashion statement but a style that works with my figure (and get a lot of compliments as well 😊
Great list! I did buy some Vionic fisherman sandals on a medium wedge, not sky high & they are cute. I will make sure I wear them with flares or cropped flares. I have a toe problem that requires me to have the arch support so the foot doctor first recommendation was Vionic. I found Baretraps posture plus sandals late summer last year, Skechers, and this year Easy Spirit has new one in sandals called Easy Works that are cute. They are more like the clog heel kinda. Just incase anyone else needs this info. I never liked the cold shoulder that much or the long dresses with high low hems. I loved the way you updated us with options to make everything work for now! Thanks for the tips & tricks!
I ordered the block heel sandals off your link….I am hard to fit ,but my neutral dress sandals have seen better days if they don’t work will send them back. ❤
I've never have own cold shoulder towards, blink pocket jeans, distressed, high low...and I hate the handkerchief style. I gave up wedges about seven years ago.
Yeah I have to agree with you on the tunics and the high and low and the zigzaggy skirts and the Holy Holy jeans do you know if they're going to restock Walmart with the 90s slam straight leg high-waist jeans thank you for so much and everything you do for us all Holly preciate it all

100% agree with you on all of these. I gave away my cold shoulder tops a few years ago. I don’t wear wedges, but love a heeled sandal. At 74 I prefer a plain pocket, and have always liked them. I like watching videos that point out what is current now. I have lots of basics and buy a few trendy things to keep up to date. I find I tire of the trendy items more quickly and don’t find it hard to give them away. I like to look current and classy.
I agree with all these. But I have been shoe shopping and I see espadrille wedges everywhere. Literally hundreds of pairs. And Mommies, Makeup, Moscara are showing espadrille wedges as a must have.
Hi Serena I am newly subscribed to your channel and really enjoy your videos . I see and am always looking for inspiration and advice on trends and non- trend s!😄I agreed with all though of course I wear what I like !!
We're on the same page! The only thing I caution (from my own *terrible* experience:), is to be careful wearing flared pants/jeans with high wedge/platform sandles. I can never keep the hem from getting caught b/t my heel & shoe and tripping me up! Maybe I just walk funny, IDK!😂
I agree 100% with all the outdated items. I never liked the cold shoulder look, so while that was in style I went for a lacy or open an open weave shoulder on tops. I have never liked the overly distressed jeans and I think it is gross that you are advised not to wash them too often. Although I did wear the handkerchief hem tops, I have found that I am just tired of the look. All in all very good advice given.
I just got some low wedges from the Charleston Shoe Company. I LOVE them! I'm 5'11" so I wanted wedges but cannot wear heels. This was the perfect compromise. They are a little pricey, but very comfortable and stylish.
I’m still confused about wearing shorts at 78. Do I wear wide leg midsize shorts or tight Bermuda shorts or to the knee shorts wide or tight as I’m thinking now no shorts at all.

Lol you might have to put a disclaimer to start off your videos "Don't shoot the messenger"!!. I totally agree with everything you said. The only thing out of those that I wore are the wedges and none are super high. I see SF still sending out cold shoulder tops and those hideous high low hem dresses. I don't understand why people still get SF. Thanks for the advice. Have a great weekend!
I agree with the Don’t but the updated cut out tops are cute but you know in 2-3 years they’ll be on the Don’t list… as I get older I prefer to buy styles that are more classic… I might not look truly modern but then again no matter what I wear I won’t look outdated. Love the video.
Yeah, but it all rolls back around. Neon colors are back too and that is straight out of the 80s and 90s lol oh, and stirrup pants and leg warmers are back too! Yikes!
Preach on, sister! Went to a funeral almost a year ago and a couple of the deceased’s granddaughters were wearing extremely distressed jeans and I was shocked! I’ve never cared for the distressed look, but jeans such as you showed I considered way too disrespectful for a funeral!
Last weekend I was at the mall and saw a few high school girls in extreme ripped jeans. I thought to myself, those are out of style. I was actually surprised to see young women with old fashion jeans on. I agree with all your out of style choices. I just went through my closet this past weekend and cleaned out 5 garage bags of Summer old fashion clothing items. I was not quite sure what I was saving them for, I was never going to wear them again. I haven't taken them to the donation place yet, but it feels good to get rid of so many summer things I am not going to wear. I am not wearing any of my wedge shoes right now, but I have two very expensive Spanish espadrille wedges that I may wear this Summer with either long pants or a long summer dress. Thank you, Serena. Maybe big chunky jewelry or too much bling is kind of old fashion.
Haha. Don’t kill the messenger! I wasn’t a fan of any of the trends you have listed with the exception of a small wedge healed sandal. At least I wore my sandals today with my wider-legged jeans. Yay,me!
I love how you state what is out, but also give us another way to wear it. We come here for your tips and you never disappoint!

I don't understand why people still get SF. Thanks for the advice. Have a great weekend!
Ok time for a dumb question. What is SF?
@Style With Serena Sorry I just saw this. It's Stitch Fix. Lol I'm as bad as the teens with my use of initials.
I agree with the Don’t but the updated cut out tops are cute but you know in 2-3 years they’ll be on the Don’t list… as I get older I prefer to buy styles that are more classic… I might not look truly modern but then again no matter what I wear I won’t look outdated. Love the video.
Thanks!
@StyleWithSerena. go to hell scammer
Well, I have never bought into any of these styles except the shoes, so I don't have to get rid of anything, cuz I'll keep my wedges!!😂😂
Good video!
Hmmm, wedges are fresh “in” again according to all the magazines and runway shows.
Sky high wedges scream 2007 to me.
Yeah, but it all rolls back around. Neon colors are back too and that is straight out of the 80s and 90s lol oh, and stirrup pants and leg warmers are back too! Yikes!
On point.
Preach on, sister! Went to a funeral almost a year ago and a couple of the deceased’s granddaughters were wearing extremely distressed jeans and I was shocked! I’ve never cared for the distressed look, but jeans such as you showed I considered way too disrespectful for a funeral!
I agree. I understand young kids do their thing, but at a funeral? Disrespectful & embarrassing for the family.
@@StylewithSerena Exactly!!!
How about joggers. And wide leg crops…can you show us how to style
Got that planned for an upcoming video!
Omg, anything else ?? That was ridiculous
@@Patricia-pq4jq What is ridiculous? Extreme ripped jeans? Or cleaning out your closet?
@@anitaclemens2609 you telling us your life story is ridiculous. We really don't care.........
Haha. Don’t kill the messenger!
I wasn’t a fan of any of the trends you have listed with the exception of a small wedge healed sandal. At least I wore my sandals today with my wider-legged jeans. Yay,me!
Leopard animal print is really outdated now- however small touches of leopard like in scarf or headband or small print maybe top only -
